    I have a MEC around somewhere. It must be 25 or 30 years since I used it. I loaded for me and my buddy shooting trap twice a week so i made lots. He hustled getting supplies and I loaded. I had it set up on my coffee table and i could listen to the TV while I was loading. I always remember the fun parts, like moving the shot charge bar with no shell in place. Thank you for the video, Chris

      Those MEC Reloaders are sure tried and true. I would say mine is that old too. The cool thing is they are still made the same way now as they were then. I know what you mean, nothing like lead shot falling everywhere and no way of catching it. You find it for years to come in every nook and cranny. lol Thank you for watching Shovelhead.

    Yep. I have a Lee LoadAll for my 20 gauges. I only shoot 20 gauge other than my .410 single shot but I just buy .410. The reason I have a LoadAll was I used to shoot a lot of 20 gauge bird hunting and some trap shooting. So I had a lot of hulls to reload. I can still use it if I need to but I mostly load rifle and pistol on my turret press. My standard bird load for my 20 gauges was #8 shot with Unique powder. It was a good shotshell bird load. I use Unique for my 9mm pistol ammo anyway. I know about the obligations and being very busy with work and family. It can be hard to go and get a video done. Thanks for sharing.

      Those Lee LoadAlls are tried and true too. I like loading Pistol and Rifle. I put all that gear away when we remodeled. I really need to get it back out and set up. Thanks for watching!

    • @rbm6184

      Kentucky Woodsman I have loaded lots of shells on that LoadAll just because of the sheer volume of ammo I used to shoot on the dove fields in my Grandad's Springfield Stevens 1100 double and my Mossberg 500 pump gun. I did for sure buy factory bird loads when it was cheap besides loading the hulls. Then there was the trap shooting also. So yeah lots of 20 gauge shotgun shells.
      My reloading bench ended up in my brother in law's warehouse for years after the dove fields and the gun club went away and I had no place to shoot after moving to a different county that had no gun range. Now it has a gun range and I have started to shoot again and will soon be back at the loading bench sorting through my reload books and data. The loading bench is now in my sister's garage and I had a big time clean up of my gear when I got it back from the warehouse. It is now back in reasonable shape to load again. I don't have to set up as presses and trimmer are mounted on the bench. All my gear including the presses and trimmer are cleaned up and ready to go. The loose gear is now stowed in hinged and latched plastic rolling boxes. I have learned a valuable lesson now on how to properly store my reloading gear and how to properly store my components. All my new components are now stored in large sealed metal ammo cans (powder stored separate from primers of course). I lost all of my old powder and primer components. Thanks again for sharing.

    I don't own a gun, and probably never will. I still found this video very interesting. I had no idea what a shotgun shell looked like before, but now I know not only what one looks like, but what is in one. Very educational, and when the Zombie Apocalypse happens, who knows, it may save my life.

    :-D I used to reload a *heap* of 20 ga. shells back in my early teens till about 18 or so. ( am 41 now) I don't shoot shotgun much anymore, so shifted my time to reloading the 45 Colt nowadays. :-) Seeing you on that MEC reloader there brings back fond memories. :-D

    • @KentuckyWoodsman
      @KentuckyWoodsman  6 лет назад +1

      Those MEC's are really hard to beat. There is times I will reload quite a bit then take a long break, but I have been doing it for years now (since I was a teenager as well). I need to get my rifle and pistol loading press set back up and get back in the groove at some point. Thanks for watching Coyote! I appreciate it brother.

    • @coyote102076
      @coyote102076 6 лет назад

      you bet! You mentioned reloading for accuracy. Heck, I got into reloading the 45Colt due to COST! hahaha! I *mostly* reload "cowboy loads". 7.3 gr. of Bullseye behind all lead Hornady 200 gr. SWC. However in my just sold Ruger Blackhawk I had a few boxes I loaded *hot* that had recoil on par with my cousin's .44 Mag. Mind you those were in a 4 year old Blackhawk that is very robust and can / did easily and safely handle those pressures.

      @KentuckyWoodsman  6 лет назад

      I have a couple of different guns that fire 45 Long Colt. It is a tried and true round. Loaded hot or loaded tame its a lot of fun to shoot.

    I do wish I would've got into reloading when I was younger.... not really for 12 ga, but 16 and 410 would've saved me a lot of money!!! That's a good lookin' shirt ya' got there!!!! 😉

      16 ga is a great round to reload where it can be hard to find at times. I appreciate that shirt Chris! Be watching for it in future videos.

    Great advice about reading up and having a mentor!!!

    • @KentuckyWoodsman
      @KentuckyWoodsman  6 лет назад +1

      It is very important to completely understand the whole process and to make sure you are staying within the pressure ranges you need to be for the shotshell you are reloading. Having a mentor will give you confidence and hopefully not let one get in trouble. Thanks for watching!

      Kentucky Woodsman I definitely did. I’m 46 years old and have lived here in the valley for 9 years where Dove season is a huge success down here, and I have never dove hunted. This year is the year I quit saying no to all my buddies and try it out. I have friends who also reload their own shells, so the more videos I can watch, read and see in person will help me out. Thank you for sharing!!!!

    I've been thinking about getting into reloading some rifle shells.
    The 8mm mauser are a little hard to find sometimes. Not to mention they can be a little expensive.

    • @KentuckyWoodsman
      @KentuckyWoodsman  6 лет назад

      It's old, but does the job pretty good Robert. Rounds like 8mm are really good candidates for reloading not only do you save money, but you can really stock up on hard to find ammo by doing it. Thanks for watching!

    Buddy of mine was going out for goose so i offered to make him some shells to try out and compare. His friends told him he was stupid to be shooting reloads .well he said every time he fired he droped a bird ,his friends got sore sholders. There is a advantage to having the exact right load.

    • @KentuckyWoodsman
      @KentuckyWoodsman  4 года назад +1

      You are exactly right. It’s hard to beat shells that have been meticulously loaded by hand.

    Good to see ya back on the Tubes. I've never re-loaded before but it looks like it would be something I'd enjoy. I have a few questions if you don't mind answering for me. Is there a limited number of times you can re-load a single cartridge? You said you use lead we can't use lead here on waterfowl probably there too but I assume you can buy bismuth shot for re-loading if so is it a lot more expensive than lead?

    • @KentuckyWoodsman
      @KentuckyWoodsman  6 лет назад

      Thanks brother. That month break felt a lot longer for some reason. In my experience there is not an exact number of times you can reload a single cartridge. I always inspect the hulls before I load them. If there is anything that looks questionable I toss it in the trash. We are not allowed to use lead for waterfowl here either. You can buy bismuth shot, but I honestly don't know if its a lot more expensive. I have never purchased any yet. If I had to guess I would say it is though. Thanks for watching my friend.

Hope winter hasnt been too rough on you down there, very cool shirt from carolina chris, shit reminds me, i still got stuff to send out to ya, and yeah, crud has been kickin everyones ass this year, had me down and out for few solid days new years, was not fun. Those MEC reloaders are tried and true. I think you would enjoy reloading as much as you enjoy shooting. Winter has not been terrible, but it has definitely been colder than normal which has kept us at work a lot more in order to keep things running smoothly. I had a case of this flu that's been going around and didn't feel like moving for several days. Glad its past for sure. Take care man and hope you are past the crud yourself man.
