Started off just fine, then got better and better as it progressed. :) I'd love to watch a sci-fi movie with this playing towards the conclusion. No idea what it's based off of though. Sounds like it might be inspired by The Planets, but I'm probably wrong...
The way you described the musical development is what I was trying to achieve 😊 It's basically the theme that was in my head for the last decade, and finally I found the opportunity and time to really compose it and arrange it for orchestra! My main inspiration for the orchestration were 'The Abyss' opening and 'Cadillac of the Sky' (from 'Empire of the Sun').
