Bill would get lynched if he visited that town in South Carolina in the 1950's and 1960's.
Things did improve SLIGHTLY in the 1970's - but not by much.
The lynchings stopped - Blacks were just mildly beaten up instead.
A few punches and a few kicks were given to some Blacks who were out late wandering the streets after the bars closed.
I visited south Carolina in the 1970's.
It was like the wild west as soon as the bars closed.
