Some people have issues with Noriko surviving at the end, but the narrative thoroughly explains her miraculous recovery. Godzilla was originally an ancient dinosaur affected by the US nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll, which transformed it into an even greater threat with atomic breath and regenerative abilities. Notably, every time Godzilla uses its nuclear breath, it is damaged, causing parts of its skin to detach and scatter. Noriko and others in the vicinity were exposed to Godzilla’s skin cells, which granted them healing abilities, as indicated by the black substance moving on her neck. Albeit a bittersweet conclusion, her survival completes the theme of “no life lost,” including Godzilla.
What blows me away is how many people completely missed the black mark on her neck in the final scene, which then cut straight to the chunk of Godzilla regenerating, and practically explains why she was alive. What we don't know is what kind of condition she was in whenever she was found, and how much she had healed by the time he found her in the hospital. For all we know, she might have been missing limbs and grew them back.
The news scene immediately after Godzilla’s attack mentions that he’s left behind radiation and pieces of himself, bits of him that were blasted off by the tanks, so they were clearly setting up the idea that bits of him got scattered everywhere by his nuclear blast. Makes you wonder how many folks in that hospital got some quick Godzilla skin-grafts in that event, and what’s to come…
What makes this the best Godzilla movie for me is the human story line. I never cared for it because it usually felt forced or out of place.. but goddamn I was so invested in our found family. Broke my heart seeing Koichi after Noriko got blown away.
28:52 Yes Godzilla has died in other films before. He died in 3 other films before this one. He died in the original 1954 film after they used the oxygen destroyer on him, he died in Godzilla vs Destroyah after reaching critical mass and melting down, and he (sort of) died in G.M.K after they blew him up from the inside.
I heard they just kinda waited around until the kid would start crying because you know, its a 2,3 year old sitting around with strange adults, its an inevetability, and the actors would just act around it.
@@Docthewrench Per IGN: "During Godzilla Fest in Osaka, director Takashi Yamazaki confirmed that the black marks on Noriko’s neck were Godzilla cells or G-cells. Yamazaki’s remarks about Godzilla Minus One's cliffhanger not only led to a roar of applause from thousands of excited Godzilla fans in attendance but also reignited months-old fan theories about what direction a potential sequel film could take."
Another banger, Jason! This was a huge surprise for me when I reacted to it and it remains my favorite Godzilla movie of all time. It just stays with you. Hope you have a great day!
I think she got infected with a G-cell when she pushed that her fiance out of the way, which is how she survived the blast. Also I think it hints at a sequel.
don't know how many times I have watched the ORIGINAL movie from 1954, and through they years seen many of the other Godzilla movies. Godzilla v Hedora has been one of my all-time favorites (because it scared me so bad seeing it at the theater when I was little), and only just last night I finally watched Godzilla Raids Again, the 2nd Godzilla movie which was a direct sequel from the 1st, and I smiled from ear to ear during the whole movie and marveled at the special effects they had to work with at the time. and now look at what that same production company has been able to pull off with this one! Even without Godzilla, this is one of the best Human Interest stories ever written and I would still go to see it, and see the failed kamikaze pilot regain his honor (somehow with a different "monster" to deal with), and be able to live again. really live again.
The new era of Japanese godzilla is unpredictable. Shin Godzilla was good. The anime trilogy sucked. But this was awesome. Hopefully we get a continuity like the Heisei era.
I got to see this movie 4 DX. It was so incredible with the seat, shaking and water spring during the ocean scenes and when that atomic breath hit wow you felt it.
I'm kind of surprised the regeneration hasn't been introduced to Godzilla before now. He is after all, a reptile, which we know have regenerative abilities, not to mention a radioactive mutant. So it seems natural that if radiation caused him to grow to that kind of size, he would have the ability to duplicate cells quickly.
The fish were dying not from radiation but because they were brought up from the depths and the change in water pressure makes their insides inflate==kind of like the 'bends' in scuba divers. Having fished for bottom fish off the Farallons and Half Moon Bay, California, the swim bladders bloat up and protrude out of the mouth, and the eyes bulge out. Now I have to say I am not sure how the fish are being 'forced' to the surface (the force of Goji's movement thru the water; the fish panicking to escape Him, I'm not sure)
Totally worth the hoops I had to take to watch it online. It was briefly in one cinema in Copenhagen where I live. Stupidly, I hesitated and missed my chance for a big screen viewing (Black & White version). Fun to see you react. And BTW, nice hair cut! You look great!
Young man, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to watch EVERY GODZILLA film ever made, with the exception of the horrible 1998 version that we shall NOT NAME! 😁😁😁😁😁😁
You Sir get a Sub, just just because your review, but having the same worst fear of mine, I do not want to be in the Ocean, if I do not know what is under my feet! :)
Godzilla never eats people. It's a Toho mandate. Godzilla didn't become a protector until Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster. You nailed the Legendary movies. The problem with Godzilla 2014 wasn't that they cut away from the monsters, but that they cut away to people we don't care about. They quickly killed off the only interesting character in the entire movie franchise. The only other interesting characters are in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
@@RealBLAlley Yeah, that's not necessarily the case in storytelling in general, especially if the main story about the mute and/or inhuman characters who are being placed as the protagonists.

If you ever get a chance, you need to watch the original GODZILLA from 1954. Godzilla was a metaphor for the atomic bomb in that movie. Watch the the original uncut Jaoanese version first. Then the 1956 American re-edit "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" statring Raymond Burr.
and Godzilla Raids Again, Rodan, Mothra, King Kong vs. Godzilla, Mothra vs. Godzilla, Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, Invasion of Astro Monster/Monster Zero, etc.

Godzilla was killed in the OG film as well, with a different ingenius weapon. In fact, that weapon would mop up what's left of this Godzilla.😉
The director confirmed those were G cells on Noriko's neck.
Show me that proof
1000s will have it

@johnbox271 than there will be 1000s of G Cell mutants...more godzilla forms. I am game. I prefer A Godzilla to take the planet... lol

I saw it in Imax and yes, the sound was crazy. Crazy good.
The child acting is not acting, the crying was her getting pinched. They mentioned that.
Godzilla Jr. died during the fight with Destroyah
But was revived by his father's meltdown. That's what you see at the end of the movie.
