So we called ourselves south Indians to disassociate ourselves with the rest of India.
But now since all the parts of India are growing at the same rate and we can see the change happening in terms of development and economy, we are truly proud of our India now.

Ha haa....what these books have done in the past and doing in the present, what Hindus scriptures are doing.....cAn't anyone with brains see. Just be saying hinduism is also regressive and bad, can never put the abrahamic into justification. The nature of Hinduism is Dharmic and hence reformable even if any social evils crept in, whereas the Abrahamics are adharmic and unreformable, its adharmic values are set on stones, unchallengable.

I guess, we gotta make it 3. Till 47, atleast people knew the enemy they were fighting. 2nd wave of colonialism injected bigotry into our education & institutionalized eurocentric worldview. Elite loyalists of BI, successfully captured that space & continued the same bigotry. Sometimes, the new masters were more aggressive towards ethnics than abrahamics.

The thing I love about Indic people is that they invite competent guests from the left and give fair amount of time for them to state their points. You will never have this in the left. They won't invite guests like Sai Deepak or many others because they know these people will take away the spotlight and doesn't give fair amount of time to the other side. The moment they know their narrative is at threat they interrupt guests and divert the subject or bring whatboutism and move on to the other guests. Great discussion loved it. All three guests raised some great points including Anand Ranganathan who actually gave more time to Ali Khan than the other two which is interesting.

Surely we all agree that govt controlled narratives can be misused as in the past. Today we have a govt with a sympathetic attitude but what if that changes again in the future. If we build our own body of research then at least the narrative will be honest and fair. After all history is about people and not an elite group - political or academic.

To be honest, this point is a bit irrelevant - Aurangzeb is hated because of his reasons of conquest, he vowed (via letters) “to end the infidels within their own homes” (have paraphrased a bit but the theme is extremely similar). Islam is judged on lack of acceptance or even tolerance - there’s a reason Muslim-majority areas have infinetimissally small minorities. Hence Aurangzeb being judged on killing his family is quite literally irrelevant when you consider he considered it his divine calling to exterminate every last Hindu.

Caste is a Colonial construct. Caste system was a predominant system of European system that they shamelessly attributed to Asian societies.
Caste system (which did not allow social mobility) was created by Lord Risley (a British Christian Missionary) in the 19th century. He morphed ancient and flexible jathis (occupational groups which allowed social mobility) and 4 varnas (colors of character of a person shaped by past karma or cause and effect not birth family) and classified people based on race science (nose size and head shape). The same race science was later used in Africa by colonialists which led to Rwandan genocide.
Other countries also have surnames based on occupations eg
    Smith,
    Potter,
    Cooper,
    Mason,
    Tailor or Taylor,
    Spinner,
Weaver (Webb was another word for a weaver,
a webster was usually a female weaver),
    Dyer,
    Thatcher,
    Tyler,
    Slater,
    Miller,
    Baker,
    Cheeseman,
    Spicer,
    Cook,
    Fisher,
    Shepherd,

@@sohamkumar4757 There is actually not enough "full genomic sequencing" to unravel the genetic landscape of India. 23andme does not do "full genomic sequencing", rather they do a process called "genotyping" which is a shortcut method that considers less than 1% of the human genome. The 23andme site explains very clearly that what they are doing is not "sequencing" but "genotyping". Hence, inferring that Indians did not intermarry outside caste from incomplete "genotyping" processes is too premature a conclusion that just follows the predominant colonial construct. The cost of full genomic sequencing for a single individual used to be a billion dollars 20 years ago. This has dropped to less than 1000 dollars and is set to go below 100 dollars. The Govt. of India should collect data full-genomic-sampling of atleast 100 million individuals to set aside this caste myth aside once and for all.

Such a brilliant conversation. I never liked history while growing up in schools, just coz I could never connect the dots and it was just limited to mug up the names n events with no sequence. Kudos to scholars like Sai Deepak, Anand and Meenakshi ma'am for enlightening us with facts and confidence with which Sai Deepak Sir says he can present the truth citing evidences. Huge respect to their intense research and work on this. High time , ruling party of so called the savers of Hindu culture/ hindutva do somethin to make this a reality of including them in the school texts. Jai hind. Jai bharat.

10:39 So he starts off by saying that decolonisation should be done by "people trained in methodologies of history and other social science disciplines", and then goes on to assert multiple times that it shouldn't be the state doing it but rather the common people themselves. Both(the social science academia and the state) are much bigger entities who will be positing(or imposing) their view/version/method onto the people.
Therefore, it basically boils down to "no you guys are not allowed to do it, we have the authority, we will be the ones doing it". And then also considering it was a strawman to suggest that anyone was suggesting the state to do it in the first place, he is literally opposing the common individuals and their ability and authority for decolonisation, and grabbing the authority for his small closed elitist aristocratic cabal of social scientists and historians.
Its the deliberate conflation of any and all non-marxist and outside(to this cabal) entities and voices with the state and with the worst forms of nationalism(which was also clearly evident with his fallacious and simplistic reductions to "nationalism" multiple times).

Eye opening discussion . There is an urgent need to teach all the facts of history from school onwards so that one is able to analyse the present events with correct perspective.

Brilliant intellectual discussion!!! Can I ask Dr Ranganathan to include in this time travel (indeed right minded)evolutionary biologists and theologists from two major sects Shavaism and Vaishnavism to decode what has been said about human and life origins. That would lead to a meaningful insight about science and philosophy of human birth and existence

The problem is that in schools, History is taught side by side physics and mathematics. History is a incomplete, tentative picture whereas physics and mathematics is complete and firm. The pupil takes all as final word.
