@@mmcpa new guy’s timing is already way better than Lopez’ ever was. Lopez had the opposite of Axe’s live issues: Lopez played shit way too fast, even this song somehow 😂
@@Tdrummer888 Well I respectfully disagree. Lopez had an awesome groove style to his playing. I think he played Deliverance incredibly, better than this guy or Axe. I'm not knocking the other two, but personally I just like Lopez the best of the Opeth drummers.
@@Tdrummer888 Totally agree. Who is going to play the song better than Martín López himself? He composed and recorded those drum lines. No one can make them sound like that personality. I see Opeth on the tours "Blackwater park" and "Deliverance". They sounded incredible. And the last time on "Ghost Reveries", but Martín López has alredy left the group. That concert was disappointing. López for Opeth is like Lombardo for Slayer. Hands down.
It’s how it always goes. New guy replaces the original or “ classic lineup “ guy and everyone is very so so on him, no matter how great he is. When that guy gets replaced, though, everyone loves the next guy. That’s not to say Walt isn’t absolutely amazing because he is, it’s just a funny phenomenon.
Pretty amazing that mobiles can take this level of video quality these days. Watching live music isn't just a distorted, blurry mess of brrrrr, like it was in the early 2000s. You actually can hear the reverb of the room, most of the musical intricacies and crowd interaction. Just really cool when I think about it.
But still, there a room to improve, there is some kind of sound field capturing change when I've zoomed closer, and there is no setting to change this behavior. Wish I noticed that before recording...
That drum break at 6:10... this kid is on the road to become one of the best from his generation. I'm not a huge Opeth fan ( maybe from "my arms...your hearse" until "Deliverance") but I always loved their drummers, Mendez, Axenrot and now this finnish kid...and he assured. Axenrot is badass too. Check out "servants of darkness" by Nifelheim. Rapid fire, but with some details that show his finesse.
You think Axe didn't do everything at Live at Amphitheatre 2018 ... Watch evrything... I love Lopez but Axe did every job perfectly after his departure in every live.
Axe was really good but he never really played the older material quite right. Too many notes come to mind which throws it off and changes the feel. Lopez has great feel and good composition but his live playing was lacking. Axe was good with prog rock. This new drummer sounds great, he keeps the feel of the original with proper timing. Lopez to me will always be special because his grooves was unique and memorable at least studio wise.
I'm glad they are coming back to form. I saw them live just as Heritage came out and their live shows...were awful. I could tell the needed a break and a good refresher. Glad they are killing it again and Mikael found his voice. Opeth is too good of a band to lose.
I have really come to believe after 25 years of listening to rock that the aesthetic faculty of us humans is the same or at least has the same desires، deliverance was first sing that drifted me to opeth, I'm a fan from Iran.
@@julianrfogel but i think that since Opeth now has melodic songs with little use of double bass. So, maybe Axe speed on double bass slowed in time. Other than that he's still good.
The drummer is killing it. Perfect timing and performance…
I like him better than Axe, but especially with this song and the outro no one will ever be Martin Lopez's equal.

Who’s the new drummer? He killed it, they all did, this was recent too, nice they still got it. Saw them in 2019 and was blown away.
Splendid performance from The Martin Mendez Band!
Drummer is really laying it down. Equal parts feel and power. I vote for this guy.
The final section of Deliverance is one of the greatest moments in heavy metal. For me ;-)
"the new kid" is pretty fucking good
Martin MENDEZZZ on bass guitar
Didn't know Mikael was Amish now.
Yeah! He thinks its more vintage and analog.
That new guy is a hell of a drummer! Damn brilliant.
Amazing work by the new kid ,completely crushed the last riff..Thank you Poland for your resolve and compassion
The warm welcome Walt gets *everywhere* is pretty amazing!

anyway, multicam live concert montage already a thing :)
It's so advanced that the wildly off-key singing of the person next to the camera is crystal clear. It's like I'm there!
Was in Utrecht yesterday and it was absolutely bonkers! What a great performance. Waltteri is a fantastic drummer.
Byłem! Genialny koncert. Cudownie słyszeć Mikaela growlujacego!
can't wait to see them back here in Buenos Aires
great to hear deliverance in right tempo
because of the new kid on the drums maybe :) just joke
They botched the outro last year in Atlanta when new kid was really really new.
@@michaelharris1843 at that point it was just a standin tho not Waltteri

Wreszcie pałker, który ogarnia temat :-)
Cool that two of these guys also performed with Tiamat! Love seeing connections like that.
The high and the long growls, are back, the anniversary tour gonna be epic, imagine if Mikael could sing black rose immortal with that fry high vocals
there is a video of them doing black rose immortal in denmark from november 10/22, should be able to find if you search YT
I saw them perform it live in London last month, it was phenomenal!
waltteri is amazing
Love uuu! XD 💖🌻🌺💥💯🔥

Unas de las mejores bandas de metal y rock progresivo de la historia, ojalá haya tour por latinoamerica
Hola, Se confirmó el tour el hace 2 semanas, Sold Out en Chile al menos
Ya esta confirmado lml
They have a drummer now that can keep up with and do Martin Lopez parts justice! Thank goodness. Tempo felt good. Nothing dragging. Nice! 🔥

Lopez always dragged way more than Axe. I know everyone loved Lopez but let's be realistic, Axe was tighter than a frog's anus.

Kompletnie nie rozumiem kierunku, w którym podążył Opeth po "Heritage" - próbowałem kilkukrotnie ale nie wchodzi.

Back to the original tempo. No disrespect to Marten Axenrot, but he was getting slow IMO. Good luck to Walt.
