This helped a lot. I've been having this "shoulder issue" for YEARS since I was in high school. Got worse over time and was misdiagnosed. Finally found someone that explained this perfectly. I have rounded shoulders and being heavy chested does NOT help lol. I definitely have some neck and spine issues as well, so everything you said made perfect sense. Thank you!
I have herniated and bulged disk on my neck c5,c6,c7. That gives me pain on my neck, shoulder arm etc. Like that wasn't enough, my shoulder blade clicks sometimes when I move it. I'm 40 and I have to live with it. I have watched many videos, but this one makes sense more than any other. Now I can explain the constant stiffness that I have on my back shoulder and chest. I checked for my heart, to make sure because I didn't know. Everything was fine. Now it all makes sense watching this video. Thank you a lot. And also you look gorgeous too.
for an average Joe, it starts at thoracic spine and how the misaligned vertebrae effects ribs that scapula sits and slides on. For more advanced, everything starts or is held by misaligned pelvis. Tilted/misaligned pelvic/sacrum cant have straight spine above. Thats in a nutshell. Put these in better place and we have much less to think about. Peace
@@TheDpower12 A chiropractor is almost never the solution for anything. There are a few minor and highly specific things a chiro is good for, but in general, there are a lot of reasons it is not considered science and why you shouldn't go to one. (Background: Ive had bodywide chronic musculoskeletal pain and neuropathy, with multiple herniated disks in my spine, for about 18 years now. I have seen every kind of doctor I could find, I've done every treatment I've heard about, I'm open minded. I've done PT, massage, pain meds, acupuncture, chiro, biofeedback, rhizotomies, steroid injections, epidural injections, exercise, yoga, and various diets to try to change my pain and health. What ended up helping? Medication, exercise, mindfulness and time.) Its pseudoscience. This Is not the result of snobby doctors looking down on other doctors. This is science, and some things are called pseudoscience exactly because they do not hold up to scrutiny. A real science holds up to scrutiny. A real science makes repeatable predictions, and has reproducable results. Chiropractics does not. Chiropractors are not doctors, FYI. They DO study chiro for an insanely long amount of time but don't have a medical degree, just want everyone to understand that. If you want to know the nuance behind that and why people think its important to distinguish that difference, I suggest looking into it. Its not to demean chiropractic, it's important. Please understand that the criticisms of the practice are not the same as modern science just being resentful of and shunning things it may not understand because it isn't part of our culture in the West, like acupuncture. Science doesn't work that way. Science denounces nothing that has legitimate evidence to support it, in fact. To do so would be unscientific.
@@TheDpower12 yes, ( but osteopath would be better),,,,, but surely there are levels to their practice... Each and every one of them will sound very professional and knowledgeable when you visit them but very few know what they actually talk about.
The rounding of the shoulders is definitely the cause in my case. This is due to an overdevelopment of the chest muscles from years of benchpresing in my youth. The causation and symptomalogy are all due to this interconnectivity. Now comes the hard part in trying to correct this muscle imbalance. Thanks for the informative video.
Greatest explanation so far and I'm glad I stumbled upon this video. This woman knows her stuff and she pretty much sums up the issues I'm having. I have a combination of scapula diskynesia, snapping scapula or scapulathoracic bursitis with TOS symptoms (particulary cold hand) and also some impinchement and shoulder instability symptoms. I have a constant dull ache along and underneath the upper medial border of the right scapula which sometimes feels like a nasty pinch. Also discomfort and tension in the head muscles with brain fog and agitation. These symptoms worsen with rest which can make it debilitating. It all started with a pinch in the shoulderblade followed by muscle spasm and a sharp pain through the arm and into the hand but now the pain is mostly located in the shoulderblade. Also some mild shooting pain or cramp in the pectoral muscles. When it comes to movement I have trouble putting my arm on the back (scratch test). Physically the superior angle of the right shoulder blade looks forward tilted while the inferior angle has a tendency to protract. Also asymmetry of the musles along the medial border of the shoulderblade. Does this look familiar? If you or anyone else knows of any experts specialised in this specific issue in The Netherlands please let me know.
@@Incognito2803 yes. you should feel like someone lowkey stabbing ur clavicle area when doing that. but note, at least in my case, when ive done it multiple times i start getting cold asf & shivering, maybe cuz the body is re aligning itself + the central nerve system is stressed so its important that you eat clean, drink much & have enough sleep. i feel no more muscle tightness but my first rib is still elevated because it takes some time to back into the original place.
I think I have this. I have an overwhelming urge to crack my back by my shoulder blade. Whenever I try to get people to crack it, they can't,because it's so deep in my back.
@@chucky2141 I took a foam roller and put the corner (end) of it directly under my T3 and T4 spine joints (my physical therapist said my T3 and T4 were tight together and not flexible). Then, I laid down and put my entire body weight onto the foam roller, making sure it is firmly against my T3 and T4. I even arched my hips upwards to put as much weight onto that spot as possible. Then, I placed my hands onto the back of my head and pushed head forward (chin to chest). I heard a loud pop and my back has so much better since. Also I've been going against all of my medical advice and doing upper back rows on the row machine in the gym. It hurt at first but I can feel my back strengthening in that area. (I highly do not recommend this, though)

Try stretching and strengthening your serratus anterior. It's the muscle that connects beneath the scapula and wraps around the rib cage, connecting to the sternum. It pulls your scapula forward around the rib cage and towards the font of your body. When it is tight it can cause strain on your trapezius, especially middle trapezius, which is responsible for pulling the scapula back and retracting it towards your spine. I have snapping scapula and pain between my spine and shoulder blade and this is helping tremendously. I used to think I had to crack it, but really you need to release the tension on the trapezius by stretching the serratus anterior.
I have the same problem as well!! i thought i had rotator cuff issues, just my scapula is too close. And i have poor posture, rounded shoulders. The only way for me to crack it, i have to move the scapula and push it back while my arms are up and it cracks...
Omg I’ve been experiencing this for about a year , i use to windmill my sons bottles to dry them… don’t remember a specific day an injury occurred i did it for atleast 4 months before i notices a slight discomfort , the popping only got worse.. by July the popping&grinding became constant.. my left side be feeling so offset as well.. I’m glad i found this lil community tho I’ll definitely be binging these comments lol
I dont know why this area of the body is not well known for therapists , its frustrating.... I have scapulothoracic dyskinesia after a traumatism , almost 2 years struggling and no solution
Hmm…. I have this shoulder blade “slippage” sensation. I’d call it uncomfortable in a kind of squeamish way, but there is no actual pain. Where I do have currently mild pain is in the infraspinatus connection on the rear side of my rotator cuff. Right now it only really hurts at the point where my left shoulder is externally rotated about 45 degrees left. It “pops” at this 45 degree angle, but at 90 degrees there isn’t pain. I have had this act up after sleeping on it wrong twice in the past two years. Second time it got so stiff I needed a sling for a few days. The pain improved after about a week of NSAIDs, and I range of motion improved back to the baseline (small slightly painful pop in that one 45 degree position) after about a month. I don’t know if the two are related. I feel like the latter might be a partial tear as it never goes away completely. I’d like to see if I can improve with exercise so it doesn’t act up again. I also am scared of it progressing to a full tear at some point if I don’t do something to protect it more.
I've been dealing with this for about 4-5 years and none of the doctors think I'm serious since I'm just about to turn 30. I'm pretty sure at this point I need surgery, but none of the doctors are listening to me. One told me to my face he doesn't care about the popping and grinding if he can just get me to stop complaining about the pain.
@@angeldelight900 the problem you have on a structural level is likely rib cage, posture, and muscles. You carry yourself weakly. Surgery can't fix that.
My issue is quite a bit of my “rounding” is not a posture issue but scheuremenn’s kyphosis. I don’t know how it was constantly misdiagnosed as a posture problem (annoying). The angle isn’t super severe, but I’m 100% positive the shape of my upper vertebrae does not allow my back to straighten the way it should, even with my shoulders as far back as they will go. I also had a lot of pain as a teen, though it improved greatly once I stopped growing. So of course I will have these imbalances everywhere due to this disease but there is not much I can do about the literal shape of my spine. I suppose I just need to focus on constantly stretching my chest so that it doesn’t pull so much on my shoulders and upper back.
I have this. It’s so annoying and fatiguing. It’s not a sharp pain, it’s just gnawing. I’ve been to so many doctors and nothing seems to be working and no one has even mentioned this as a possibility. I also think I have an elevated first rib. Sigh. Thank you for this detailed information because I’ve been feeling crazy for nearly 5 months over this.

I've been diagnosed with snapping scapula syndrome, I got it from benching too heavy and it's made my life miserable especially at the gym, I can't build my chest the way I want to because of it !!!!
I have this in my left shoulder. I got it from doing this, 100 a day for 30 days, pushup challenge right when the pandemic hit Feb/Mar. (I was using a yoga ball, while putting my feet on the ball and hands on the floor. Obviously over extending myself.) I felt something snap, like muscle tearing away from the ribcage. I felt a bit heavy on the left side too. THE PAIN is real! I didn't get treatment cause we were in lockdown. 7 months later. I felt I could start light aerobics for a workout. One of the days, I chose air boxing. It was 9/30/2020. I was okay, until that night the pain set it. The pain is so deep and dull, it effects my actual shoulder and collarbone and neck. I have loud grinding and pain when moving my shoulder back and forth. I have had two MRIs of just my shoulder. One with contrast, one without. Showing tendonitis, and a strained muscle with possible underlying issues in other areas. Now I'm going to an ortho for help. I have had injections into the shoulder, and nothing has helped. I've been in PT for 2 months, and that is more less aggravating my shoulder. So I'm off to an ortho next week to see what is next. How is everyone managing their pain. Because I stopped taking NORCO two and a half weeks ago, and am only taking ibuprofen and Flexeril. The flexeril makes me super sleepy, so I only take it at night. Should I just plan on dealing with this for the rest of my life? No more kayaking, working out my upper body, or even picking heavy things up?
Same here 😒 . Lemme know if u found a soultion. I feel clicks in my left shoulder doesn’t pain as much yet but I hav been told it worses with time. I worked out but sometimes I feel relief with exercise and sometimes it’s hurts more after exercising I don’t even know how to explain it to doctor
I am trying to do serratus anterior exercises like every dr is telling me. I went to over 7 drs and they are all so useless. For the pain i take divido 75 and any other muscle relaxers. If you fixed it somehow please tell me how u did it.
Love this! Oh it is so important to focus on fully lengthening the interconnected muscles of a troubled area in order to get more done. I swear by the Philosophy after overcoming different chronic ailments/symptoms in the past. I also discuss nutritional intake and hydration patterns to finally balance the playing field and allow recovery to be an achievable goal. Thanks for the demonstration and breakdown. Will share 😁👏🏾👏🏾😊
My physical therapist says I have arthritis? An x-ray stated calcific tendonitis in shoulder just a small amount. I don't have range of motion in my neck on the right side. I am in continuous pain for 8 years and getting worse.
I had two scope surgery and it doesn't work. I might consider open surgery and cut off the superior angle of the scapula. I have mild scoliosis which effect my posture but also have a unsually hooked superior angle of my scapula which causes my snapping scapula. Tried physical therapy..but most physical therapist are not well educated about this. Too bad I live way out in NYC to get treatment.
That I've approached about all healing you could imagine from an Engineering/structure angle. I've uncovered much in seeing muscles as cable suspension's that can still hold up a structure(bones) even when they endure some failure. Agree with all she says but noticed asap the erector spinea muscles going from lower back up underneath the shoulder blade. I don't see how if you got an exercise to target and rebuild those muscles underneath shoulder blade, that being rebuilt would not allow blade to contact ribs for any grinding. Much more and not to be taken as medical advice, look again for yourself.
I’m having pain in that area. I see a chiropractor, physical therapist and a surgeon. I had distal clavicle surgery and that helped. I started complaining of arm and shoulder pain. I feel like I have knot and I have popping and grinding in the scapula area. My therapist, chiropractor and surgeon all want me to get an emg/NCV study to check the neck out. So, I go November 22. Oh yeah, now I’m having front of the arm/shoulder pain. So, all my pain is in the scapula area, knotted feeling, popping, grinding and front of shoulder pain
@Rangus I have the issue too bro. Had it for almost 3 years now and understand where you’re coming from, but don’t let yourself feel helpless. You can control a lot despite the issues you face. Try to focus on what you can control like minimizing the pain and finding solutions. Best of luck, I know it’s easier said than done and I have really bad days too stil
Ooohh, wow, you had so many answers to my questions. I have had it for 20 years now 🥲 gaslit from the medical field being told that we all have pain. I habe it every day. Find it hard to sleep. So you possibly know of anybody skilled in London UK, please? 🙏 thank you😊
How can i treat this ? It feels very uncomfortable have this about a year , always want to crack my shouldr blade plus my shoulder is a bit uneven , its feels like its dislocated . Those cracking poping noises very uncomfortable. Exercises ?
I had multiple dislocations on my right shoulder and throughout the years my left shoulder compensated for this as. The levelling of my shoulders are uneven with my right shoulder being lowered after years of dislocations. I suffer from extreme left upper back and scapula pain which radiates into the upper chest and left breastbone. How to heal please?
I've had this with both shoulder blades for as long as I can remember, but it's never hurt - I can just feel / hear it grinding. Should I still seek treatment?
I believe I have this. Does anyone else feel relief from extreme pressure on point in which the crunching happens? I make my boyfriend basically stab it with his elbow and even though it hurts, it also feels good too.
Yes. Thats the only thing that helps temperature for me. The lovely painful pressure being targeted at certain trigger points. I've had mine for 20 years now though abd its gotten so much worse over the years. Never managed to find a cure or fix for my problem. Went out many different specialists. Only got temporary pain relief. Didnt fix the root cause at all.
My question is if this condition ever goes away. I have had this for more than three years. Was going to physical therapy but had to cancel the sessions since I no longer work. My right shoulder pops if I reach up. Therapist said my problem starts from neck, leads to upper right back and then upper right arm. Have been doing exercises consistently over last five days but feel like it is not improving. I told so many doctors that I have a grinding sensation in upper back. Doctors never sent me to do an MRI. Therapist also said an MRI would not be necessary.

@@Dopamine2x Thanks for asking. I haven't found a fix. I am just doing stretching exercises but those don't help. The grinding scapula in upper right back continues. It is unfortunate that I have gone to so many doctors before and none have sent me to an MRI. Only physical therapy. Currently unemployed and waiting to see if I get accepted to Medi-Cal. Hi. I have had this pain for years. Since I was a child and I’m now 58. I have had a metal cage fitted in 2004 around C6/C7 and have had discs replaced. I have also had my sternoclavicular joint removed due to osteo arthritis. I have recently (July 2020) had an injection in my shoulder blade which took the pain off for around two weeks. I am now waiting for surgery to take a bony lump from my shoulder blade to see if this will work. I am in pain all the time. I have fibromyalgia. I feel down all the time with this. I am beside myself as what to do as I still work although I’ve now been off a while as all this stress is impacting on my condition. I did do Pilates once a week which helped me with my pain but due to the lockdown this has not happened and I find it difficult to motivate myself to doing exercises at home when I’m feeling crap all the time. I have read all the comments under this RUclips video and I sympathise with you all. I thought I was the only person in the world that suffered from this as no one seems to know about it. I have aching in my jaw since being a teenager my arms hurt my neck hurts my legs hurt my back hurts. Now I seem to get headaches from the muscles that go up into my head. My tongue is sore. I am so hoping the consultant that I have recently found in Leeds England will be able to help to sort me out. Thanks for adding this video. I now Know that I am not alone in this.
I am so sorry to hear about it, i hope you feel better soon. I have been feeling low as well with the muscular imbalances and other things going on with my life. I have changed my diet and have been working out everyday and its helping me very much. At times you feel like no one can understand what this is like and some may even ridicule you but just know that you will feel better soon and believe in the process and make a change in your lifestyle and habits. Good luck.
Sorry for that, I've had this myself for a year and few months. I've gone to chiropractors and it only helps for few weeks. Its horrible necessary pain. I wish it would go away. I can confidently say that I would give up an arm or a leg for it to go away.
I was in a car accident. I was rear ended and it ruined my shoulder. Ever since, it has been grinding, popping and snapping. It hurts so badly some days. I really wish I could figure out what to do to fix this.

I'm experiencing this, middle and top back, including the back of my neck and front rib muscles keeps cracking by just breathing in. It is so intense. If I bend over to pick something my back will crunch heavily. Omg I need help.

I had pain in these areas for 3-4 years, and I just didn't know what it was. Finally going to different specialist and doctors turned out that I had bulged and herniated dick on my C5, C6, C7. Same here bro. Chronic pain in my rhomboids and trapezius area on left side for 20 years now. Docs and pain specialists gave up on me. Myafacial pain syndrome and snapping scapula is what I think its called. I still take pain Meds but they've ruined my intestine I think coz now I have chronic pain there too. I'd love to get my shoulder scapula fixed coz it has officially taken the last 20 years from me. My life is in limbo because of it. Why can't someone fix us? They just see you for 15 mins then say bye,...see you again. They don't spend nearly enough time trying to diagnose the problem and find a fix for it. They should really focus their time on people with problems that aren't common. The pain is so much worse than it was two years ago...... I ferl 80 years old also. I got fibromyalgia too, ...which stems from this chronic shoulder pain, in my opinion. What else is gonna happen to me because of this long term chronic problem? Suicide does seem like the only option to escape this hell. That's where I'm at now. People didn't like me taking drugs every day to escape my pain and give me some energy to do every day things. Death seems the only logical solution, since the hospital and chiropractors I've seen over the years haven't done much to fix me. I do stick acupuncture needles in it sonetimex though, which helps the pain a bit.

Thank you!
I am so happy this video was so helpful and useful to you!
I have had the same issue since high school, let me see if it works.
And also you look gorgeous too.
hello, if you want to join a group Scapula snapping syndrom and other UBP causes on facebook, there we can discuss options to deal with the problem.
for an average Joe, it starts at thoracic spine and how the misaligned vertebrae effects ribs that scapula sits and slides on. For more advanced, everything starts or is held by misaligned pelvis. Tilted/misaligned pelvic/sacrum cant have straight spine above. Thats in a nutshell. Put these in better place and we have much less to think about. Peace
Can you expand on this? Is seeing a chiropractor the solution?
Medication, exercise, mindfulness and time.)
Its pseudoscience. To do so would be unscientific.
have you found a fix?
@@TheDpower12 yes, ( but osteopath would be better),,,,, but surely there are levels to their practice... Each and every one of them will sound very professional and knowledgeable when you visit them but very few know what they actually talk about.
The rounding of the shoulders is definitely the cause in my case.
This is due to an overdevelopment of the chest muscles from years of benchpresing in my youth.
The causation and symptomalogy are all due to this interconnectivity.
Now comes the hard part in trying to correct this muscle imbalance.
Thanks for the informative video.

@@nachiketn8032 Posture and shoulder exercises
This is one of the best explanations on this topic I’ve ever heard. Thanks, I learned a lot.
If you or anyone else knows of any experts specialised in this specific issue in The Netherlands please let me know.
hey i got the same issues, whats ur progress so far?
@@FloRidaVEVO98 Not much progress, what was your onset?
@@Incognito2803 try that out & give me feedback: hug urself as tight as possible & breath very heavy.

I believe I have the same thing. Have you found a solution?

Really useful. Need to increase mobility and then strengthen once posture is good from what I can gather.
Very thorough explanation. Thank you for taking the time to educate folks!
There's no surgery that will help this
have you found a fix?
@@jakkritphanomchitwhy?
Ya.. i have bulging under shoulder blade and very painful

My physical therapist says I have arthritis? An x-ray stated calcific tendonitis in shoulder just a small amount. I don't have range of motion in my neck on the right side. I am in continuous pain for 8 years and getting worse.
I've had this problem for nearly 6 years... I think it's developed into arthritis at this point...

@@TechnoDS7 what is Bursa injection??
That I've approached about all healing you could imagine from an Engineering/structure angle. I've uncovered much in seeing muscles as cable suspension's that can still hold up a structure(bones) even when they endure some failure. Agree with all she says but noticed asap the erector spinea muscles going from lower back up underneath the shoulder blade. I don't see how if you got an exercise to target and rebuild those muscles underneath shoulder blade, that being rebuilt would not allow blade to contact ribs for any grinding. Much more and not to be taken as medical advice, look again for yourself.
What type of doctor should one see for these types of issues and a diagnosis with testing ?

I told so many doctors that I have a grinding sensation in upper back. Doctors never sent me to do an MRI. Therapist also said an MRI would not be necessary.

have you found a fix?
@@Dopamine2x Thanks for asking. I haven't found a fix. I am just doing stretching exercises but those don't help. The grinding scapula in upper right back continues. It is unfortunate that I have gone to so many doctors before and none have sent me to an MRI. Only physical therapy. Currently unemployed and waiting to see if I get accepted to Medi-Cal. If I can't find a solution here, I may need to travel to Mexico. That is the country that normally gets me out of bind.

Been fighting this for 10 years. Horrible pain when sleepimg
I've been struggling for about 8 years as well. It took me that long to find something that helps and nobody talks about!
@@tylermcnally9931 thank you for that info! I think I have this. Do you have any recommended stretches and strengthening exercises?
I'm having all of those issues for over a year now

I am experiencing a grinding, popping, snapping, cracking in my scapula area for the last 3 years, I finally got referral to physiotherapy and go next week I pray it will help me. I have to use pressure to feel relief even if its for 10 minutes pain free. Also if I lift my should to my ear it cracks and pops and feels better but short lived relief. Thankyou for your video it helps my moral.
You're welcome! We're glad this video helped you.
I have chornic pain in this area and my neck its ruining my life, I'm having to take strong pain medication and it feels like the doctor has given up on me. I'm 18 and feel like a 80 year old, this isn't living :(
I had pain in these areas for 3-4 years, and I just didn't know what it was. Finally going to different specialist and doctors turned out that I had bulged and herniated dick on my C5, C6, C7. That causes all that pain on shoulder, neck, arm, chest etc. You might want to look in that direction if you haven't done it yet. It will help you find a solution or treatment. For me, stretches help a lot, but the pain is still there. Good luck buddy
I know the feeling hang in there bro

I use foam roller and foam ball to loose the trigger points, it helps for a brief period of time.
