My wife grew up listening to marillion and fish as her father was the biggest fan, we went to see him live this year and I really connected with the beauty of his songwriting, sadly earlier this month my father in law passed away, and while we had some great times seeing him holding his daughter swaying to this song live will be one of the most beautiful memories, RIP Graham big love my second dad.
Fugazi and Misplaced Childhood are my two favourites. Fugazi because it was the first one i bought and Misplaced Childhood because the first couple of times i heard it was live, when Fish told the audience that he wanted to play their new album which has only two songs. One called side A and the other side B. They then played the entire album from start to finish!
When travelling in Iran, we ended up getting a ride from a Christian fellow who lived in the Armenian quarter in Esfahan. He secretly played this Cohen song, with the windows closed so the police wouldn't hear him play this 'haram' music. It was a mesmerizing experience. 10 years later, this song still brings me back to that time and place ❤
My mom told me she really loves this song and wants it on her funeral.. I never heard the song before we had that conversation and now I’m crying and missing her allready when I hear this beautiful song❤️😭
A Beautiful song. I played it often in my radioshow. Sometimes special for a old friend. He liked the song very much. About 4 years ago he passed away at the age of 44.
I bought the album, in 1991, on a casette at a market in Lublin, Poland, for just a few Žloty. It went in my mind, never got out, and now my son, often in lovepain, plays it over and over again... let's just say Fish did something amazing!
This song is so beautiful, it impacted me alot during my time in college. I wrote some short stories based on this song including other Fish' song named Kayleigh. I'm just wondering why not many people listen to this song.
Marillion slucham namietnie od 1986 roku. Koncert w Poznaniu 87 byl wazniejszy dla mnie niz egzamin na AWF :o) Muza jest wspaniala! Pozdrawiam wszystkich fanow FISHA. Grzegorz
Never seen this video. Fabulous song, my favourite off the album. First saw Marillion in 1982 as a 15 year old & thankfully a few more times. Seen the big man on a few solo tours & will say goodbye to him on his farewell tour in 2025.
Fish's best solo songs! god, it's brilliant, full of magic and love....I love this one so much! The orchestral bits - make my hear melting with pleasure. "can you get it inside your haed? i'm tierd of dancing...."
Excellent album, excellent song and the guy has an amazing stage presence that reaches out to everyone in the audience. Still follow both Fish's progress and work, and Marillion's after all these years
Do you still keep paper flowers in the bottom drawer with your belgian lace Taking them out every year to watch the colors fade away? Do you still believe in fairy tales, in battlements of shining castles Safe from the dragons that lie beneath the hill? Are you still a russian princess rescued by a gypsy dancer To anyone who'll listen is that a story you still tell? You live a life of fantasy, your diary romantic fiction. Can't you see it's hard for me, can you see what I am trying to say? It's a gentleman's excuse me so I'll take on step to the side. Can you get it inside your head I'm tired of dancing? For every one step forward we're taking two steps back. Can you get it inside your head I'm tired of dancing? I know you still like old fashioned waltzes Your reflection in the mirror that you flirt with as you glide across the floor But if I told you the music's over would you want to hear That your dance card is empty that there's no-one really there? Do you still believe in santa claus, that there's a millionaire Looking at your front door with a key to a life that you'd never understand? All I have to offer is the love that I have, it's freely given You'll see it's value when you see what I've tried to say. It's a gentleman's excuse me so I'll take on step to the side. Can you get it inside your head I'm tired of dancing? For every one step forward I'm taking two steps back. Can you get it inside your head that from this one step forward There's no turning back? Can you get it inside your head I'm tired of dancing? We're finished dancing.
Im 37years old and this is my favorite song!it means a lot for me ,absolute masterpiece!hopefully you play this at 4octobre 2024 in netherlands maastricht your last tour, see you there❤
Saw him at the Shepherd's Bush Empire on May 25. The sound was bad, the stage was crowded with the other band's set up and still the man and his unit gave the best they had. Thank you, Fish, for being there and doing a great show. Bow down, mister.
Love this song and album. I could never understand why people that are/were Marillion fans put this album down when it was new. But did it sway my opinion? Not a chance!
The whole album, is an absolute banger. Listen to it without your mind wise relation to marrilion...and you hear what he was to marillion, as much as you hear why marillion is different but not the less interesting today.! (Someone, somebody goes...and leaves what he has always been.!) I love that kind of synergy.!
I bought this picture disc along with a couple of ZZTop picture discs that i saw on the wall of a music shop many years ago. I didn't know who it was by, i just liked the picture. Never played the singles and just heard it here for the first time. Can't say i'm very impressed with it.
"Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors" was the best surprise I ever got from buying an album on a whim. Complete and total masterpiece...and i got my current girlfriend to go out with me by playing her 'cliché' ;-)
I used to listen to this song a lot when my first marriage broke up. It was a tough time for me. Then I recovered and moved on. Today I hear and it brings me only nostalgia and a thought: what would it have been like?
Do you see the painful images Fish creates with just a handful of ordinary words? This is nothing less than finest Art.
Beautiful! God bless you and your family. I am a big, big fan of him as well.
I'm so so sorry but now every time I hear this masterpiece I will.prau for you
One of the most beautiful songs in the history ❤
The man's a poet, who just so happens to put his poetry to music rather than a book.
He's a bard
In the true druidic tradition
Clatching at Straws and Vigil are the two albums I have listened to the most during these quarentine months. Two masterpieces...
Fugazi and Misplaced Childhood are my two favourites. Fugazi because it was the first one i bought and Misplaced Childhood because the first couple of times i heard it was live, when Fish told the audience that he wanted to play their new album which has only two songs. Clutching at straws is one of my top 5 ever favourite albums.

You have to admit, Fish is an unbelievably good song writer.
This song is so beautiful, it impacted me alot during my time in college. I wrote some short stories based on this song including other Fish' song named Kayleigh. I'm just wondering why not many people listen to this song.
