Why would someone think blood needs to be censored for Americans, people who absolutely thrive on explosions, guns, gore, and carnage in general? Seriously: what other country's culture eats up gruesome violence more than us? We love blood! It makes no sense! It's a huge paradox.
The red blood is there. You just have to go into the options menu and change the region to Japan instead of U.S. This is true for every game available on the Neo Geo Station.
I remember me, my friends, and my cousins would compete for the highest scores on this game in our local arcade. I became a great player and when I moved to a new city, the first thing I did was look for an arcade with Metal Slug in it and got the high score. Last time I checked, it's still there.
I was a little disappointed to hear you cannot turn on the blood in this game. It is not a big deal.I will be downloading this game regardless.I am guessing this port looks better than the PS2 port. The graphics in this game still hold up well today. Some people might think differently. This game series has lots of character unlike some game franchises today.
@rickyjshiznit The game is being emulated, therefore it also emulates the slowdown it experienced on the original hardware. If I recall correctly, MS2 was known to have pretty bad slowdown at times. That's why the team behind Metal Slug completely rewrote the game engine for 3. Metal Slug 3 was taking a pretty long time to complete, so the team made an enhanced version of Metal Slug 2 called Metal Slug X that used the Metal Slug 3 engine. The framerate is much more stable in X.
The King of Fighters character, Leona Heidern, is available as an extra downloadable character for Metal Slug XX, a revised edition of Metal Slug 7, for the PSP and PS3. There were rumors of a Metal Slug Zero Online, an upcoming massive multiplayer online game, but it appears development was suspended. But the charm of Metal Slug is that the old titles are still lots of fun to play.
On my Wii version of Metal Slug Anthology I didn't notice any of this glaring slow down. People say that version of MSA is terrible as well, but I still didn't have that kind of problem.
Metal Slug worked well for the PSP handheld. You can download the Metal Slug X game (a revised version of Metal Slug 2) for cheap or get the Metal Slug Anthology collection (contains Metal Slug 1-6 & X --whatta deal!). There's also the Metal Slug XX game, a revised version of Metal Slug 7. I liked playing the PS1 Metal Slug game because I was able to change the blood color back to red. Metal Slug was originally released in 1996 for the Neo-Geo MVS arcade platform, and still is fun to play.
This is by far my favorite Metal Slug. I dont know why he didn't mention the music, It's awesome! specially in level 1. I guess I'm one of the lucky few to play this on the MAME cuz I had no slow-down, not any I remember anyway.
I don't know anything about programming, but question: why is it that after so many years and so many reissues Metal Slug games are still laggy as hell? Is it just the way it was programmed?
In the US versions on the MVS you can turn blood on or off with the dipswitches on the board. And I have to ask...why oh god is there such terrible slowdown in this port? This is the same slowdown that they FIXED in Metal Slug X. If they are making a port on a high powered console why the fuck is it still laggy?
@1shoryuken i agree, sooooo many bullets/missiles on screen it can definatly work to your advantage, and the slow down is never bad enough to really effect gameplay to much anyways
Pokemon red blood turn on code is simple. Talk to the old man that teaches you to catch pokemon, fly to the seafoam Islands, go up and down on the side of it until you meet missingno. Enjoy
i still dont get how my brother got to a secret area in metal slug x? it was weird, it was like the outside of the temple level on mission 2. i dont really much of it when i was 5 and i think it was just my imagination in the end
@TheZigZagg metal slug x was a revised version of metal slug 2, it was more difficult, it fixed slowdown issues, and it had some new weapons and items.
Red Blood in Jap mode,u can have slowdown off in options,u can have smoothing on the graphics,or yes u can have the original version with major slowdown(the main reason snk made metal slug x,which has much less) u can set ur backgrounds 2 diff types,u play*obviously* with a ps3 control, overall this makes it the best and most complete metal slug 2 ever, dont complain, dont panic, its all goooood
Good Job Sony! You allowed another censored (ruined) version of a great Neo Geo game, I appreciate you preserving the value of my Neo Geo collection with your watered down ports :-)... Gamers bummed by the slowdown need Metal Slug X which is an improved version of 2 with almost no slowdown and much more.
@superdum2 ah, I see. I saw "AES" in the comment and my brain just totally disregarded the part about an mvs. But yeah, they go for about $40-50 on ebay.
@Broyale26 we're a dying breed thats for sure lol but hell if xbla and psn keep re-releasing the old arcade classic like this then, hopefully new gamers will clue into the sheer genius they contain lol
@ShutUpAndListen79 Actually, NeoGeo was the bargain bin of the arcade universe, back then. The normal arcade ran around $5000 a machine. NG's were $1000 and up with $100 to invest into each game. The home market...was harder to get into with $100+ games and consoles...that I remember running over $500. Just didn't work well, against a Nintendo/Sega price range. These days, you can really score some NG deals.
Hey everyone I'm 15 and I'm trying to become a succesful Pokemon trainer, I'm gonna move to the Johto Region in August 2012 to learn from the best. Pokemon means a lot to me. I've just started training Professor Oak gave me Charmander and I used him to catch a Pidgey. It would mean a lot of you guys supported me on this. I know it's really annoying when you see comments like this on every video, but it means a lot to me. Please thumbs up so people can see this.
People... This has RED BLOOD also.. Simply switch it to JPN in the Region settings.. BINGO.. RED BLOOD ON.. Also, to people who think this slows down more than the original Neo-Geo version you are wrong. It's exactly the same. You are probably just used to playing it on an emulator with it set to overclock the CPU. That can causes glitching and isn't giving you a true 1:1 Neo-Geo experience. Should they have put this in as an option? Perhaps, but to complain that this is slow is dumb.
The game has no slowdown, once you turn on the over clock feature on the options menu!
you can turn on the blood by selecting the japanese rom...also you can speed up the cpu in the menus, so no more slowdowns
Why would someone think blood needs to be censored for Americans, people who absolutely thrive on explosions, guns, gore, and carnage in general? Seriously: what other country's culture eats up gruesome violence more than us? We love blood! It makes no sense!
It's a huge paradox.
1: For the red blood you must turn game to Japan region in options
2: You can turn off slowndowns in options
The red blood is there. You just have to go into the options menu and change the region to Japan instead of U.S. This is true for every game available on the Neo Geo Station.

In a way, I thought the slowdown actually made the game seem a bit more awesome at times. Almost like a special effect.
I was a little disappointed to hear you cannot turn on the blood in this game. It is not a big deal.I will be downloading this game regardless.I am guessing this port looks better than the PS2 port. The graphics in this game still hold up well today. Some people might think differently. This game series has lots of character unlike some game franchises today.
this version of Metal Slug 2 has online co-op? i heard that the first one had online co-op, so i was just wondering if this one had that
@rickyjshiznit
The game is being emulated, therefore it also emulates the slowdown it experienced on the original hardware. If I recall correctly, MS2 was known to have pretty bad slowdown at times. @enzoTHEferrari
And what about the one at 0:50? Thx
4:57 what was that bird in it's nest doing with it's egg ?? weird ?? anyone ???
@rickyjshiznit Why do you think we have Metal Slug X?
The King of Fighters character, Leona Heidern, is available as an extra downloadable character for Metal Slug XX, a revised edition of Metal Slug 7, for the PSP and PS3.
There were rumors of a Metal Slug Zero Online, an upcoming massive multiplayer online game, but it appears development was suspended.

On my Wii version of Metal Slug Anthology I didn't notice any of this glaring slow down. People say that version of MSA is terrible as well, but I still didn't have that kind of problem.
you can turn on blood on ps3 by going: settings > etc > neo geo region: JPN
did someone see the chuck Norris Wow ad because that's awesome and this review is awesome
"I turn on the red blood for every video game, even pokemon"
I instantly liked.

@LansTartare u have the game?
I can't change my settings to speed up the cpu-clock?? it wont let me.. any suggestions?
I am glad I am subbed, this is grade a review videos
This is by far my favorite Metal Slug. I dont know why he didn't mention the music, It's awesome! specially in level 1. I guess I'm one of the lucky few to play this on the MAME cuz I had no slow-down, not any I remember anyway.
He didn't mention the insane lag of the port...
You can reduce it by going to settings etc and there is an option there
+Amir Paydar does it lag even more than the original MVS version? The original hardware drops beyond 1fps at certain bosses.
Distortionize
Not more, but definitely as much. They didn't do a great job on the optimization of this port.
Is there a port of MS2 which Doesn't Lag? i would pay like 60$ if i could find one which doesn't!
well, Metal Slug X for example.. :D
@heardofrvb why would they port a game that performs badly to a console when they have another version that performs well they could port?
man i so remember playing this game for hours in the arcada, so much fun... so much money...
Love playing this on the DS, the NeoGeo version.
HELP i own a ps3 and i don't know if i should get metal slug 1 or metal slug 2
Isn't this basically the same game as Metal Slug X? o.O which is on the PSN as a PSOne Classic.
I don't know anything about programming, but question: why is it that after so many years and so many reissues Metal Slug games are still laggy as hell? Is it just the way it was programmed?
@PhazeyBlur
Isn't Metal Slug series wonderful? It even has "birdiology" lessons in it. ;p
HEY! What's the cheat code for extra lifes?
Mark! do a review for MegamanX series!
In the US versions on the MVS you can turn blood on or off with the dipswitches on the board. And I have to ask...why oh god is there such terrible slowdown in this port? This is the same slowdown that they FIXED in Metal Slug X. If they are making a port on a high powered console why the fuck is it still laggy?
can we make more credits????
@1shoryuken i agree, sooooo many bullets/missiles on screen it can definatly work to your advantage, and the slow down is never bad enough to really effect gameplay to much anyways
@enzoTHEferrari
Really? what about the other 2?
is there local multiplayer?
@oneupdawg u have it?
is it just my youtube or does the game suffer from slowdowns on the PS3???
Pokemon red blood turn on code is simple.
Talk to the old man that teaches you to catch pokemon, fly to the seafoam Islands, go up and down on the side of it until you meet missingno.
Enjoy
WAIT! its the same metal slug X?
if you download metal slug anthology (it is only $10 more and includes every game in the matal slug series) it has an option to turn blood on
@maggitPL i heard but i get less slowdown than this while playing it with a ps1 emulator.
my favorite of the series.. thankfully i have the MVS cart though..
I LOVED the little details in these games. I sucked at them though.
Hasn't the Metal Slug series always had slowdown, even in port collections? besides, slowdown can be your best friend in these games.
i remember playing this on the arcade back in the days.
Based upon the captured footage in this video, I'd say MAME runs it just as well. Plus you can turn the blood on.
@PhazeyBlur The one in the far back reads: "I want medicine".
The one in front is not real Arabic.
Can you play online with friends?
@rickyjshiznit Mark actually informs about that problem somewhere around 3:24. :P
When a game with a fast framerate slows down I simply look at it as a moment of epic slow-mo.
this game brings back memoris...
So you can play with a friend in the same room? 2 controllers...1 PS3?
yes
in the ETC. options
i still dont get how my brother got to a secret area in metal slug x? it was weird, it was like the outside of the temple level on mission 2. i dont really much of it when i was 5 and i think it was just my imagination in the end
@TheZigZagg metal slug x was a revised version of metal slug 2, it was more difficult, it fixed slowdown issues, and it had some new weapons and items.
@thundreturtle Yeah, i tend to forget too. Plus most of the home console ports were X, not 2.
You'd think that they could have just overclocked the emulated cpu a bit to help with the slowdown.
Love this game..I play it on the dream shell,on the Dreamcast.
the same thing happened to me when i dldd this for the wii... i thought they got rid of the slowdown but..NOPE. :(
Red Blood in Jap mode,u can have slowdown off in options,u can have smoothing on the graphics,or yes u can have the original version with major slowdown(the main reason snk made metal slug x,which has much less) u can set ur backgrounds 2 diff types,u play*obviously* with a ps3 control, overall this makes it the best and most complete metal slug 2 ever, dont complain, dont panic, its all goooood
yes i was thinking the same, is the game
quit to the main menu, enter options/ ETC. options
@MAH1500
I think it's not its egg, It's one of those birds that steals other bird's nest and throws out the previous owners' eggs.
I love this game, but the anthologies would be a better purchase if you can find them.
I have this for the Wii and i'm pretty sure it has red blood.
@superpkmnlover That means it's still processing.
@FantasticFranco That's a funny way to write "Metal Slug 3".
Can u get trophies?
Omg loved playing this on MAME when i was 3-5 years old :D
The Xbox360 arcade metal slugs are not slowed down like this. But I guess it's a totally different engine to convert to.
Metal Slug X fixes all the issues with MS2. Review that one.
most of my childhood playing this game!!
Mark uses paper towels to clean up his spilt coffee so now I will use paper towels to clean up my coffee. First, I have to start drinking coffee.
@superdum2 ah, I see. I saw "AES" in the comment and my brain just totally disregarded the part about an mvs. But yeah, they go for about $40-50 on ebay.
@Broyale26 we're a dying breed thats for sure lol but hell if xbla and psn keep re-releasing the old arcade classic like this then, hopefully new gamers will clue into the sheer genius they contain lol
does this game has infinite lifes?
@troy1002x Yes, the slowdown is annoying.
''MISSION COMPLETE'' is EPIC !!!
Why don't snk just do metal slug:anthology for next gen consoles?
Mark! Review Cho Aniki!
@ShutUpAndListen79 Actually, NeoGeo was the bargain bin of the arcade universe, back then. The normal arcade ran around $5000 a machine. NG's were $1000 and up with $100 to invest into each game.

Hey everyone
I'm 15 and I'm trying to become a succesful Pokemon trainer, I'm gonna move to the Johto Region in August 2012 to learn from the best. Pokemon means a lot to me.

I know it's really annoying when you see comments like this on every video, but it means a lot to me.
Please thumbs up so people can see this.
this seems a lot like commando 2 on miniclip.com... but im guessing this one came 1st.
The Xbox 360 needs more Neo Geo games, we only have Metal Slug 3 and Metal Slug XX.
You know, you can get nearly all of the Metal Slug games (1,2,X,3,4,5 and 6) on Ps2 with hardly any slowdown :P
@rickyjshiznit By what I see on screen, I think the MAME version plays a bit better, though it still has a great amount of slowdown.
@TheZigZagg
Metal Slug X was kind of a remake of Metal Slug 2.
2:01 the sign in the middle saying " I have diarrhea" the last one saying " I need medicine"
@kickpunchblock I hope you realize that Metal Slug wasn't made in HD and the game is sprite-based, so it doesn't matter; it'll look the same.
@TheZigZagg metal slug x is just an updated version of metal slug 2.
The original metal slug 2 suffered from slowdown on Neo Geo. That's why they made metal slug x
I got the PS2 version and it has lots of blood and 7 metal slug games, not only one
I'm pretty sure the slowdown wasn't even that bad on the PSP anthology =/
one of the best game series ever!
People... This has RED BLOOD also.. Simply switch it to JPN in the Region settings.. BINGO.. RED BLOOD ON..

I can already feel my thumb cramp.... WORTH IT!
