The SCG pitch hasn't been a spinners paradise in years and years. The curators will not even consider the England attack, they have a directive to produce results oriented pitches since the old MCG pitch was rated poor in 2018. If the pitches were curated to suit Australia, they would have made the 2025 SCG a batters wicket to give a better chance at a series win. Instead it was a spicy seaming pitch that very nearly resulted in a series draw and India retaining the trophy.
I think the current English line up with a young pace attack and some exciting batters have a good chance in the upcoming Ashes. It will be an exciting series either way.

The Aussies i speak to think that 2 tier system is a disaster waiting to happen...and seem to hate the very notion of it. I hear more " thats the influence of India at the ICC ". and " keep the greedy bastards away from the game ". The only reason it has raised its head is because of very recent crowd numbers in OZ...and like it or not that is PURELY based upon number of Indian descent people in Australia and how passionate they are. Nothing to do with the old established Aussie crowds. Same in England. No point dancing around the obvious. The beauty of the game is that a number 1 ranked team like Aust now needs to play in complete opposite conditions, and may get beaten in Sri Lanka. I love that unpredictability.

I thought India got lucky with that Spicier than normal Sydney pitch. India's worst enemy was a draw which would cement a lost series, and rain has constantly been a factor in Sydney tests in recent times. The forecast was for at least 1 day lost.

The smaller nations already struggle financially and can hardly afford to put test cricket on. The greed from the big 3 and India taking a bigger piece of the pie is the real problem. And for years England has poached talent mainly form South Africa and a few here and there from the Carribbean essentially getting young adults without having to invest revenue.
A 2 tier system will destroy the game and there will be the big 3 with NZ, SA and Pakistan eating leftover scraps.

I completely agree. Kohli at his peak was a different player compared to now. Back then, he effortlessly found gaps and was always in the thick of the action. Nowadays, he seems more focused on just stealing singles. Since his return from the last BGT in 2021, he hasn’t been the same player.

Overloading the tests between Australia, England and India devalues the currency of those series. There needs to be a 'tax' on the various T20 leagues that goes to the various boards as well as a substantial minimum payment from the ICC to all Test players. Banning games against Afghanistan is a disgusting proposal - it isn't the team's fault. It's nonsense to equate Afghanistan with apartheid South Africa. The latter was a (limited for sure) Democracy and so vulnerable to soft pressure - the Taliban couldn't give a shit. What the ICC should actually do is fund a Refugee Women's team.

Pretty sure Kohli has as many if not more shots than Rohit or any of his contemporaries. Perhaps the only shot Kohli doesn't play is the reverse ramp to pacers. Which Root does now. But I wouldn't be surprised if Kohli works on it through the IPL season and pulls it out this summer against England. Kohli still has atleast 2000-3000 test runs in him. Can't wait for him to score 3-4 centuries this summer and then hopefully he'll get a few sort of sporting wickets at home against WI and SA. We don't need to prepare rank turners, our bowlers are better than most teams visiting. We have ruined our players' averages and their confidence by preparing tracks that turn from ball 1.

So far, Gambhir’s tenure has been defined by his penchant for bits and pieces cricketers (or as he’d like to call them, utility cricketers). He once seriously suggested picking Ashwin to bat at no.4 and bowl spin in 2023 odi World Cup).
In the 1st BGT test, Rana was picked over Akash/Prasidh for his supposedly better batting skills. In Aus, picking your 3rd seamer for anything other than their bowling quality is utterly ridiculous.

    • @prithviroy11
      @prithviroy11 18 дней назад

I agree with that criticism, but I think we won the 1st test because Harshit Rana bowled well, and Akashdeep is a better batter than him. Also the team selection is not solely dependent on Gambhir. Rohit has a bigger say as he is one who would have to lead the side in there. Gambhir actually didn't even pick the side for the pink ball test as stated by Rohit himself, he asked Ashwin to stay back and play the pink ball test and not retire. And Rohit is also someone who wants batting depth, we saw that in the CWC '23 where we played with Shardul Thakur for the first 3-4 matches and Shami was sitting out. Only Hardik's injury forced Rohit to change his combination. And as a matter of fact, had we played Ashwin in the world cup final against Australia for Surya, we would have had a better chance to win the whole thing considering the pitch was a dead one.

So...when it all boils down the tier system is 100% based upon one thing only. The fact there are huge numbers of Indian descent people in both England and Australia...and they are passionate fans. That is all it is when we cut thru the bullshit. It would be a temporary/fickle cash grab to one particular demographic..done as a knee jerk reaction to 1 or 2 series. In that BGT series just completed i reckon it must have been way over 65% of their crowds being India fans. Sounded and looked like it on the tele. The recent Sth Africa/Pakistan games proves we all need to oppose this silly cash grab proposal. Make those big 3 teams tour less around the world and it becomes game over.

With only 9 nations (excluding Afg, Ire, Zim) playing test cricket regularly, how will they split them into two tiers? Top 3 and bottom 6? Top 4 and bottom 5? And will they promote the top team from the bottom tier and relegate the bottom team from the top tier? What if England get relegated? No Ashes then? What if Pakistan get promoted to the top tier? Will India be willing to play them? Perhaps they can split 12 teams into top 6 and bottom 6 with Afg, Ire, and Zim getting regular test cricket but the issue of relegation/promotion still remains. One might think India would be content making tons of money from IPL but apparently that's not enough and they want to sqeeze every drop of juice out of international cricket as well. Boycott Afghanistan? Yes, but also boycott India for their refusal to play Pakistan.

Phil you're talking out your backside, Rohit has NO technique. It's all hand eyes for him, which goes after a certain age.

Agree with Phil. Expand the WTC and get more cricket in Australia in our winter up north. Ireland v Zimbabwe in Darwin and Cairns for example.

Poms don't understand Australian cricket. There's no interest in winter time tests in Aus.

@theredraven I can blame England and Australia coz they are the ones who doesn't have any backbone. They only have their own interests at heart. At least India is doing alright by the players with the IPL. Tell me what does England and Australia do????

So the solution to English fans not being exposed to foreign players (outside of Australia) is to play against them less?
