Your dad is a legend mate.
I was just about to write that he was a two stroke legend!
Erm, he took a while to find the start button, legend?🤔
Will never forget the times I spent fixing boat stuff with my dad.
Mark is there an episode this evening
@@directorstu]
As a dad with a shed full of tools and projects. I'd be upset and offended if my daughter didn't ask me first before paying someone else for help! You carry on!
I don't feel like my kids are morally bankrupt when they ask me for help, I just feel like a parent! Your parents are awesome.
Very true Amanda👍👏👏👏👍
Seems to me a family that sticks together- helps one another is truly wealthy- those that do not sadly bankrupt. Hopefully the person who made that quip was joking or has friends by his side in this way instead. It's a big part of what makes life worthwhile- those with whom to share the good, bad and in between.
@@ricopo3522 so true🤗👍
I think your dad needs his own channel. I love watching him putter on engines.
Agreed. I'd love to hear him go through his various projects. Esp the blue mini.
I was chuckling at his low-level chatter as he worked. I couldn't think of a good way to describe it.. but I reckon it's a new kind of ASMR that should be called "Northern Putter" :-)
He'd make a killing
The good news is that the 2 strokes are simpler than the 4 stroke. Your Dad is amazing, he went right to the issues that would be troublesome. Your dad is definitely a motorhead with the Route 66 mug.
Nicely done! I would be sourcing new water impellers now, if those engines have been sitting for 10 years the impeller will soon disintegrate from age. It is better to replace them now and have peace of mind than to get out on the water and have an engine overheat.
When he started I had to cringe…get those impellers done asap
Yes, and hopefully the gear oil isn't milky or empty
I heard him say to clean up the bottom end...
And the Anodes were gone by the look of it.
Your dad is the Yoda of all things mechanical. With a bit of Tennessee Moonshiner thrown in. Awesome!
Great to see dad back fixing the outboards.
Mum looked so happy to see her little lad home too.
Have a great Easter, and eat loads of chocolate eggs. great update 2x👍
This reminded me of fixing up my lawnmower engine with my dad and we had great fun doing it. Those comments about it being morally bankrupt is ridiculous, some people are just nasty 🤡!
If it's not Daughter's coming home with Babies, it's Sons with broken engines 😅
If you can get through Kiel, there's a great boatyard called Albina Marine in Naestved, Denmark (south Zeeland, same island as Copenhagen). The owner's name is Daniel, and he can get all the skilled workers, parts and anything else you might need. The only limitation is the weather - nothing much can happen before April/May. There's a crane, yard storage, shed storage, basic comfort facilities, and he doesn't mind you being on board while you sort stuff out. Access to easy navigation on open sea, too (though not super cheap).
Dad is the MacGyver of boats. Great to see you guys working together.
Haha
Your Dad is a legend!
Finish the motor work, as you said run them a bit in the water on dads dinghy (did you change the impellors) then take them back check the hulls and lashings check steering then motor the boat across to England find a mud berth near Mum and Dads and begin the work that boat will be awesome very quickly.
I think would also make the channel better to have parents in the background occasionally. They are such characters :)
I think close to home is the best option for a lot of reasons , might be expensive to transport but it will work out cheaper at the end
I've followed your adventures for several years with great enjoyment. When you visit your parents I'm always surprised to see your Dad flying the Lone Star flag of Texas. As a Texan I always salute! Please let us know the significance of the flag to your family.
Keep up the great content! Safe travels and ......"Remember the Alamo!"
Hi Clarence,,,we simply love America & the people x Our beloved Daughter-in-law is American & she gave Steve the flag as a gift x As you can imagine he was thrilled 🤗🇺🇸🤗
It's always intresting watching you and your dad work on somthing together. And finally someone who makes a proper cup of tea
Everyone needs a "Marks dad" a total legend !!! Love the way you put the comment on from the twat who is Sebastian ;):): keep up the great work Mark loved this episode !!!
Great channel Mark. That cat is amazing considering how long it has been there. Say hello to your dad. I was the guy outside Halfords
I was the guy inside halfords.
I was the guy outside Halfords, but only 8,000 miles away in San Diego, California, USA. But I was outside Halfords.
@@ImTheDudeMan471 Thats called 'Coincidence'
Father Wilding is the monk of engines, the boat whisperer! And Mother Wilding... wonderful!!!
Move it to a field in the Uk & stick a tent over it. Everything will be so much easier to arrange & complete the work on it
Great stuff Mark, your Dad is very talented and likes to mend.
I used to work on outboards and still have nightmares about them.
Your Mum was so pleased to see you.

Roll on electric motors and cheap battery non Lithium packs.
Oh and generators powered by multifuel liquid piston rotary motors .. you can hold a 40hp diesel in your hands and theres only about 40 parts in a complete motor including fasteners.
Right now, your best asset is your incredible dad! When I was sailing, everyone wanted my help because I can fix just about anything. I had about 2000 pounds of tools and spare parts and never charged anyone. ⛵️⛵️⛵️
Where do live ? I needed a you . I had to sell my boats cos i never had the help I needed
I’m famous that was me walking past your dads workshop had to say hello as I love your videos keith Henderson
Those old Suzuki oil injection outboards are fantastic. Dads had one on his little aluminum fishing boat for 20 years and runs like a champ.
Your dad should have his own RUclips channel.
Mark, your Dad is wonderful! It's great watching the two of you working on the outboards together.
You are blessed to have your parents be so understanding. Glad you came back to the UK to find our boat. ⛵
Your so lucky having a family like yours your dad is so good to you just as it should be
What a great thing to do “working on any project with your dad” make sure you do it as much as you can. You are making life memories
Just remember he won’t be around for ever cherish every moment
You followed a similar procedure I go through on these old outboards. Check that you can turn over the pistons, check oil levels (make sure there is oil in the crank), check for spark (meaning, check the solenoid, battery or override with a jump pack), then add fuel and try to start her up. If no ignition then I will take the spark plug out and squirt a little juice directly into the combustion chamber.
That way if we have a fuel filter or carb issue the engine should still start up with a little fuel in the chamber. Once we know that engine starts, then its fix what you found, clean the fuel lines, fuel filter, change the oil, then remove and rebuild the carburetor. Once the engine is fired up and running, then you can start working on the transmission and prop.
All in all these outboards looked pretty good for sitting for 10 years. Also, two strokes are way easier to work with than the newer 4 strokes with all their electronics. Two stroke engines are easier to get parts all around the world but also produces more pollution and may not be allowed to be used in some parts of the world due to EPA standards, such as the US and UK.
great video Mark...give your Dad a big pat on the back from me, when I was about your age and my Dad was just 62 he came down with early onset dementia, so it it so nice to see the give and take and help and jokes that I missed out on.cheers
Smartest thing would be towing/transporting the boat as near as possible to home!
Your money will be gone in no time with just what the boat needs alone.
Mom's cooking and dad's skills will win the day and see you succeed and they deserve rewards for their input too!
Great stuff as always!
Yes yes yes 🤗👍👏👏👏👍🤗
If I'm ever stranded in north England, and need mechanic work, I know exactly who I'm calling. Your old man is a rock star if I've ever seen one
Your dad rocks honestly, not knowing what is he tells you backstage, but he seriously seems to support you whatever your plans are!
💯 right Patrick🤗👏👏🤗
Your Dad is a motor wizard. You are blessed to still have him with you. Cheers -
your dad is awesome, you're not morally bankrupt, it's what being a parent is all about, passing on any knowledge you have. I will do anything for my son, we always doing things together and always have a good laugh
SMOKE ON THE WATER
Theres your boats name. Deep Purple!
God I love your dads taste in cars. I had a 2000 Jeep Cherokee sport for years. It was my daily driver, a search and rescue truck, cross country touring machine. I miss it every day.
A couple of 2stroke things: Most of the small 2st engines expect to be started at half throttle or more (at least the hand start ones). I was surprised at the external linkages for remote. I have an old merc 8.9 with internal linkages (but local start button :P ) a generic 9.9 4s (says merc on it but I am sure someone else makes it) all internal linkages and a 45 all internal as well. The 45 is supposed to start at idle... it does most of the time but then quits before going into gear a lot. I finally went to a two knob remote control so I can get it going at a little higher throttle. Quick "tune up" if it runs a bit rough (before cleaning the carb) run at a good rate then choke it out. If you can clean the carb, that is better, but if you need the motor now a couple of run then choke cycles might get you home. In general, I prefer separate throttle and gear controls but with two engines, it is always nice to just have all in ones like you have. None of mine have auto oilers, they are premix run.
What a great Dad, lucky lad.
Oh bring it back to Wales ...ya dad n you fixing her up ..gold dust fella. He's an absolute legend and you have a support structure and everything you need around to put that hulk back on the water 👍😃
I totally agree👍
Its always been one of the finer, more enjoyable parts of your channel watching you and your Dad fixing things mechanical.Nothing better than a Dad and his Son working together on a project. Your doing great Mark. Your Mom was so glad to see you. Heart rending. She whose name we will not mention doesn't deserve to be part of your lovely family. One fine day you will find a sweet little sailing Lass.
I appreciated the sound editing generally, but particularly in the montage/fast forward parts of the video. Nice work!
Your Dad is an amazing marine mechanic, its so great that he is working with you on getting these old engines back up and running again. He seems to really enjoy working on these types of things and I would strongly suggest he start his own channel as its rare to find people that truely enjoy working on marine engines and have a great personality and attitude that is transferable to video. I really enjoy these videos with you and your dad working together and seeing the smiles of figuring things out and getting the engines back up and running again.
Wonderful seeing those engines running! Thanks Dad!
These are the times….the times when you will remember spending those hours with your dad. Everything you will do : everywhere you will go, at the time they feel better, but later when your parents are no longer there (soz) … those are the times you cherish. It’s all about love . Besties x
WOW !!! Never witnessed such artistry before. What beauty.
Great video Mark. Your parents are wonderful. Despite what people have said, parents love to help their children, especially when they are helping themselves. 2 strokes are great but only having one electric start would worry me. You don't want to be hanging over your stern on a dark and stormy night trying to get an outboard to start. Maybe look around for a second hand 2 stroke with electric start to replace this one. As I am sure you know, 2 stroke engines are banned from sale in Great Britain and the EU. You can buy new in the Channel Islands, but there is always the danger that their use maybe banned at some stage.
Maybe purchase one four-stroke so that you have an option in restricted areas
As one one of his mates said they are already banned in Amsterdam .. though add some cannabis oil to some racing oil and you'd acquire a lot of friends among the tourists from that smoke generator..😁😂🤭
Amazing those engines even ran after all those years sitting around, your Dad is an absolute wizard.
♡♡♡ hej mark! -i just lost my dad a month ago, we had not seen eachother for 6 years, seeing you and your dad working on these engines really made me think allot...
-its those moments I'll miss the most, I wish we had more of them.
-so to all of you who has someone you love that you have not seen in a long time, the time we have is short and precious, spend it with those you love♡♡♡
Hello sir I'm very sorry to hear about your dad I lost mine and 1985 from cirrhosis of the liver I know what you're going through is I did not get to tell my dad goodbye but got to see him in the hospital just before he passed. My condolences go out to you and your family
I lost my father Nov 11th 22 and hadn't seen him for 5 years. He died of a stroke but had stage 4 brain cancer and somehow in his deluded state had created a story to himself that we were fighting. He never let on about this and I'd been talking and texting him very month and on holidays, birthdays you know the usual stuff. He lived in Florida but returned to Indiana were I live and was raised. He still had the property that I grew up on and that's where he stayed prior to admitting himself into hospice which he'd never had to do had I known or been told he was ill. A neighbor who had always wanted our property swooped in in his last months after buttering him up for years doing things like giving him expensive phones that cost him nothing as a benefit of his work. He was also one of daddy's drinking buddies and although an alcoholic like him when younger I haven't drank in over a decade. I didn't find out he was in Indiana and that he was actually terminally ill until four days before he passed. I have a special needs son that my wife and I are the sole caregivers for and he requires 24/7 supervised care that we provide. I wanted to go see daddy but couldn't get away and then he passed. I wasn't invited to the service they held for him even though it wasn't a funeral but just a bunch of drunks hanging out in the different bars he used to visit. A long story short the "Concerned" neighbor managed to get everything in my fathers will changed and ended up with pretty much everything except for the woman who'd been living with my dad mooching off him in Florida who got everything down there. I never expected anything from my father despite him promising me for years he was going to leave the Indiana property to me. It isn't about that to me I never wanted anything from the man but for him to have pride in his son. So not only did I loose my father I tried my entire life to please but in the end was replaced by people who claimed to love him but were only using him for what they could get.
So yes if you have the chance to visit people you love do your best to do so but know it could be more hurt than help.
Sorry for the book of a comment and I truly am sorry for your loss but you shouldn't feel to bad about not seeing your father because he could just have well tried to see you...
God Bless...
@mjrburn8914 hej.
I'm really sorry to hear your story, addiction is a relationship killer for sure... and it attracts people who suffer from the same darkness, its so sad.
-I don't really feel bad for not having a closer relationship with my father before he passed, we did talk over the phone, text and email. It's more the realization that i could have been with him in person, showed him more love despite our differences.
-what I'll take with me from his passing is that I'll try spend more time with family, those of blood and spirit. It's never to late to fix an outboard motor or what ever poor excuse one might need to spend time with someone you love ❤️
"We all need somebody to lean on, lean on me"
♡♡♡
Dad is awesome. How about an episode where we have Dad explain what car is under the cover? and a tour of the garage ?
2 American flags in the shop! Your dad is a very wise man!
Just loooove everything about America & our American Daughter-in-law got it for Steve as a gift ♥️🇺🇸❤️
I just discovered your channel, it's great to see you work on the boat and getting it back to life..
Seriously tho, don't bother with people leaving negative comments.. they do this because they want attention and you're giving it to them.
Especially those that complain about morality, these are the people that have none themselves to begin with.
If it's 3500 for just the boat parking and you still need accomodations, you might as well go for 4500 and get it to the UK near you. Either that or get a quote to get it down to PSL (since you still got French residency, might be easier).
Great video.
Those comments regarding you asking your Dad to help you with the outboards, MATE....I'm glad You and your Dad laughed them off.
Being a dad myself I can say that doing projects with your kids and imparting your knowledge to them is Very rewarding and time well spent, I love doing it it's instinctual.
Wales sounds like a good option though I have no idea about the cost of materials to complete the project in each country or the cost of living though if the price of a pint is any indication the Netherlands sounds expensive and the £ 4000 transport cost sounds like a good investment.
Cheers
Love the videos. Your Dad is a rock star. I am sure you have considered it, but a big advantage of that boat is you could separate the hulls and load separately on a flatbed, taking up less space.
What a Great set of Parents you have !
Hi Mark. Couple things. Outboards, shift fast, not slow, hard on gears due to grinding. Older oil injected motors we often disconnect oil pump and pre mix fuel. Eliminates possibility of seizing engine if, or when oil pump system failure. Those are good model year motors. Should never run dry however. Consider serving water pump impellers, especially due to setting so long. Good luck to you!
I love to see your parents! Your mom was so happy to see you.❤ Your pop is a treasure, he knows so much about mechanics. What a great adventure you’re having.🥳
That was the most relaxing video to watch after a super stressy day, thank you. Have a fantastic easter break.
nice that they run, cant beat an old two stroke, i wouldnt chance running them till had a decent service, gearbox and the water pump, after so many years the rubber impellor will be hard a stone and could fail anytime, good old dad
Mark your farther is your secret weapon. No matter if it runs on gas, diesel and probably electricity he will get it running he is becoming a legend on the channel. It was nice to see your mom again. She is a wonderful mom and I'm certain she is responsible for your genuine good nature as well as your wonderful spirit. Stay safe I absolutely love your videos.
Mike, this is lovely,,so lovely🤗🤗🤗
These suzuki's are great engines.
A few tips;
- check the fuel pump. (When its a membrame pump, replace the membrame)
- Replace the impeller (for the cooling water)
- put a fuel filter in the line to the carburetor
- try to use e95 fuel. (The bio component in e90 tends to do poorly in two stroke)
- use high quality two stroke oil.
Good luck, and keep the engines. They are fine.
Two canoes with a couple of little outboard motors, lashed together with a wooden deck, and a couple of sails thrown in. Then its off to cross an ocean. Cheers Mate, you are a braver man than I... I think you should keep the shovel as the paddle for the dingy though, it adds to the charm along with the wine corks. Keep going, I love watching your videos each weekend!
Great video Mark! I love watching you and your father fix shit. Applause for the excellent camera setups. I felt like I was right there with you guys, breathing in all those tasty fumes. I know it's been said, but it bears repeating...Your dad is a f'ing LEGEND!
Marthew,,,you're soooo right!! He is a F'ing legend👍👏👍
Projects like this seem like such a fun way to spend some father/son time and it shows that you both enjoyed it
you could probably cut transport cost by separating hulls which would make it less for permits ect good luck
I think it’s great your parents like to get involved in your projects.
Awesome stuff, love your Dad, such a cool guy and you’re so lucky to have him helping you with your boat projects. He sure knows his stuff when it comes to engines. Look forward to see how this Wharram comes together 👍🏻💥👏🏻⛵️
great stuff and your parents are so lovely perfect role models for everyone an inspirational family indeed
You are so lucky to have that bonding and learning time from your dad. A talented man he is. Precious moments to embrace.
Wow this brings back a recent memory.. I have a 48 hp 2 cycle johnson that had a mouse nest and 3 large hornets nest inside the motor housing hehe..I ended up rebuilding the bottom end and carbs twice because I didn't realize that the fuel Iines were also full of gunk after rebuilding the carbs the first time... it had been sitting in the down position for around 5 years on the back of a pontoon boat...luckily in was in a fresh water lake and not salt Water.
Your dad is a all around dad. Good guy.
"That's tea sorted ". Love your Dad, he's one of us. Your going alright there mate, keep at it. 🐟 😁
Hi mark getting the boat back to the UK would be a great idea
Your content is bang on……..
All the best
Great seeing these older engines getting a good work over 👍
Hello, Have a pair of 1994 40hp Johnson outboards, my father disconnected the oil injection and we instead opted to mix the oil directly into the fuel which ensured the right amount of oil was mixed into the fuel (not too much or too little ) they have given us 30yrs without much grief, just upgraded to 4 strokes mainly for fuel economy and reliability, however having 2 outboards always gave piece of mind, the only trouble we had was related to water or moisture in the fuel which was minimised with a water trap external filter. If they start and run OK you will probably get many more years out of them until you do a big trip. They looked pretty clean under the cowling and may not have had lots of use. Enjoy watching your videos, cheers Aaron. Far North Queensland Australia.
your dad has some old man strength! he moved that engine like nothing
Because those motors have been sitting for 10 years and even though they are pumping water I’d still replace the water pump impellers. It’s better to be safe and not sorry. Keep up the great work
you can see other folks have said it o i will reinforce what they say , "DAD SHOULD HAVE HIS OWN CHANNEL" , i would forsure whatch him , there is a lot to be lernt from a man like youre dad , his calm voice and abilitty to fix engines is amazing . plus there is folks all over the world making a killing at it , engineering is big , e.g. fabrats .
Excellent video this week Mark, really interesting, and great to see your dad in action again!
Your Papa have to get hi 5, and your mother is always surprising how good u try to save old boats to work again.
Hahah that smoke shot of the outboard engine made me laugh 😂😊
Have not kept up with you in a while. I found it hard to believe you bought another catamaran! One thing nobody in the world can steal from you is your character. Move forward and sail on!!👍
I love watching yr dad; he's like a patient, old style garage mechanic. Nothing ruffles him.
Dad's so laid back
I might do away with the oil injection side and just premix petrol.
Great channel
You’d hazard a guess by the condition of the yacht those engines would be lucky to have an hour on them from brand new.Good to see dad back into it again.
Thanks to your dad for being a legend
dads happy mums happy your happy...happy outboard ...im half way through and your dad is so northern calm ..we will fix it love it
I could spend all day watching Steve fixing engines. Not in a creepy way, I find it quite therapeutic 😂
same
Mark once again family comes thru. I bet your Mum is feeding you really well also. I'm sure you will make the right decision regarding where to haul the boat for your refit. Can't wait to see all the work that is coming. Cheers from DownUnder
Sooo true Cameron,,,his first meal was minted lamb shank,,,sooo darn happy🤗
I was the third or fourth owner of a smaller Suzuki 2stroke.
Fantastic reliable with no seasonal issues in 4 years I owned it.
It really made an impression on me.
Awesome resurrection of those 2 strokes, you and dad rock , looking forward to more, I always want my children to ask me for my help it’s always my joy!
Hi, Love your show. If the gear boxes are in good shape convert the outboards to electric. It is very easy to do. All necessary parts are redely available. It can be done for less then $2000 plus cost of battery's and some solar panels. No smoke No noise. Good luck
The videos you do with your dad working on the motors are brilliant...
Amsterdam sounds really lovely but will inevitably be ridiculously expensive. I have spent time in Ramsgate which I like a lot. Alternatively coastal Nederland’s might be a better bet on price.
Sadly I suspect that internal waterways are going to be a no no with two stroke outboards. I reckon that a electric installation is the best option with loads of solar and storage. Get your Dad to look out some old electric forklifts! Imagine all that battery storage for domestic use too. Lovely.
Don't forget to change the impeller on either engine. Cheers mate !!
So the 2 stroke 100hp motor for the boat we had growing up was always winterized with fogging oil and in the spring we would put it in the barrel and running it and yup it bee supper smoke for a few minutes then once it was all out your good to go for the season. Never any other smoke
Great episode, messing about with temperamental 2 strokes! Love it! Your Dad is awesome.
2 Strokes can make the owner temperamental as well.
Nothing like you Dad hein....Miss his Mustang... Love Mom's reaction
