If it is 304 Stainless steel it will hold up for a long time. If a magnet sticks to it then it would be of a lesser grade, or not Stainless at all, which means you can start the countdown to extinction. I use a beer keg as an outdoor burn barrel and have been doing so for a good 12 or more years and it is going strong. I have drilled half inch holes around the periphery and have a screen that is propped above the bottom for increased breathe ability. Regular steel, like 55 gal. drums are made of, always deteriorate from heat and moisture as they are invariably left outside year round. My barrel screen is quarter inch mesh and already showing "signs" and it has only been on for at most 3 months. I will search for it in Stainless at some point. Looks like your pellet basket could do with finer spacing of the mesh. If I ever do this method then I think I will look for a french fry basket as they "must" be made of metal that doesn't break down, as in rusting away. I am thinking of doing some kind of wood stove this winter and if pellets should enter into it I don't want to turn down a good deal for not being able to use them. Thank you for the demo. Instead of one of those overpriced "eco" fans I may go with a 12 volt pancake style electronics cooling fan. Pretty sure I can fart with more authority than what that fan is doing. 😂😛
Seems like making your own out of hardware cloth would be cheap enough. If it only lasts a few fires then one could just make another for a couple bucks.
i have been trying to find or come up with a cheaper alternative to one of those, i dont want to spend the money. its for my fireplace which doesnt get as hot as a stove so i would think it would last longer.
If your fire place is big enough where you would be able to fill it safely I think it could work . It’s possible this just didn’t work for my particular set up. I paid 65 for it wish I paid like 30 .
I made one with bbq vegetable grilling baskets. They were made of stainless steel and had the perfect sized holes all over. Got them at Walmart for ten bucks each. They were made kinda pyramid shaped. Used one as it was for the bottom and two others to build up the sides. Put perforated angle irons across from one side to the other using simple pins strewn through the wall holes and putting angle irons over them. I put six of them all together. Made four 2 inch legs with one inch square tubing .everything is bolted together since rivets would probably melt haha. The beauty with this is that it is simple to modify to fit your needs. Oh and don't forget to leave some ashes under the basket, if not you can crack or warp the bottom of your stove. Hopefully this information will help you and I wish you all good luck with trying to burn pellets in your wood stove. I still find that using wood in my wood stove is cheaper and gives off better heat. But! It's good to have a backup source on the ready you never know when you might need it. Happy tinkering friends.✌✌✌
I would think making sure your stove bottom has firebrick its how one of my stoves is done an can burn green wood in it need be. I'm not sure the comparison of green wood temp to pellet which if in a basket for the pellets on top of firebrick would think it atleast keep the bottom of woodstove from warping. I'm debating to convert the price for a cord of wood doubled around here yet the work pay remains the same I see many families going to struggling to stay warm this winter an this might be a more affordable option which I might be able to get someone to build me a few for the price they charged for just that one little basket will see. Thank you for sharing an I will have to watch your other videos to see how well that basket worked
I would agree. A premium grade of stainless is much better than iron or steel to deal with hot and cold cycling. Exhaust turbo down tubes from turbos don't last unless they're made of stainless.
Guy didn't do any homework. You place in box then fill, light from the top. You get what you pay for, more expensive ones are slanted for easier fill-in and lighting.
I'm sorry to say that you look like you don't know what you are doing. First, at 0:47 you show a metal grate that is bent an cracked, after one year of use. That obviously means that you over fired your stove, probably on many occasions. The stove itself is probably damaged and cracked as well, even if you can't see the damage clearly yet. Over firing is when you let the stove get too hot and the metal is compromised. Has your stove ever glowed red or been really, really hot? Second, you light the pellets from the bottom. It's not a bunch of logs. Have you never even seen a pellet stove in operation? The pellets are only burned from the top. You spread the gel over most of the top surface instead of a small area. You are not trying to burn up as many pellets as possible, as fast as you can. Now for some humor: you rhetorically ask at 4:15 what's the point of putting the American flag sticker on the front. The answer is probably so that you cannot return it because it's already been used and the fact that the sticker has burned off is proof of it.
wow, was watching this with my grandson until you start using "f" word. WHY?! :( You seem like a smart man and smart people dont need to use profanity, especially when demonstrating something educational.
@@jborrego2406 Indeed your first sentence is correct, however the second sentence, may want to put some thought into. Who would EVER dream you should keep a child from viewing what is supposed to be an educational video about woodstoves?! I did turn video off and turned to other videos on this subject where the little ones could view it with me. The author of the video was caring and mature in his response to my input. You may want to read what he wrote.
Most honest video on RUclips
I made one out of a old pan drilled holes in it it works good I put a small log on it helps cut down on the wood good heat in the fireplace

"Already there is a problem like wtf. Lmao 🤣🤣🤣

The basket would be good for wood chips , or compressed sawdust burn logs

If that is 300 series stainless... Should be good.

You want me to come over there Pal?

Is there a link Whare you got that basket
The seller no longer has this item listed but if you search around on eBay there’s a few ones that are kinda similar .
I bet a stainless steel colander would work better
How long did a basket of pellets burn?
Hey it’s been awhile but I think I may have covered that in my update
Looking for that update , any links
They are not going to last. That’s a given. Make it yourself or pay.
Buy a pellet stove, that's 6hrs of heat you just dumped lol.

Don’t be sorry your so smart. Congratulations.
I’m looking to do this I live next to a saw mill. I’m not sure the American flag burning is what I like to see.
It was just a sticker
To be Concluded
It was just an American flag
I didn’t attach it to the item it came that way and to be honest I didn’t think much of it I was to busy trying to see if this would work .
Where is this filmed Iran. Common sense is clearly not common.
And your problem is what ?
Moron
