Use to work for the CCC 20 years ago. I'm now 40. I know a lot of work we did in Stanislaus, King Canyons and Inyo is still standing strong. Never had the privilege of working in Yosemite. Been there once so beautiful.

I made it to the top of Nevada Falls in 1978. I'm in my late 60's now and I suspect this hike would be harder now than it was for me then. It's beyond wonderful to see it again. Thank you for sharing the magic of Yosemite.
@@allen_pulls_stone_sometimes I think we were there in late spring, so the Nevada/Vernal trail wasn't too busy. And we didn't have much trouble parking at the trailhead or at the concessions. Even back then, however, it was still pretty congested during the summer months in Yosemite Valley. So our summer visits were always to the High Sierra or to Hetch Hetchy.
Never seen Yosemite like this! The epic winter snow started melting so suddenly and this was the result! So cool to see it in person! Thanks for watching! 🤟👏🔥
Thanks for this video. In my lifetime will never see the Falls like this again so it is much appreciated to be able to experience it at least in a video.
I remember hiking up Vernal Falls as a kid with my family. There was a rescue crew at the top and they were pulling up a body of a guy from the rocks below, they were pulling him up from the bottom to the top. Everybody on the trail was watching them pull this naked body up the falls.
Thank you, Allen, for this wonderfully filmed video! You moved the camera where I wanted to look and see. The natural sounds of the roaring waters is so appreciated! I was on this trail many years ago at this time of year, and the amount of water everywhere in this video is tremendous compared to around 1977.
I was just there last weekend, it was impressive. Now looking at this video makes me feel glad I didn't pursue the hike with my young children. Maybe later in the summer.
For those who are familiar with these streams at their normal June flows this video is so evocative of the forces of nature that over millions of years have shaped the valley! Can you imagine flows that are 10 times as much....?? Because it has happened thousands of times over the millenia....I have made the trip up Mist Trail 3 times on my way to the top of Half Dome via the cables and I would highly recommend that hike to anyone who are in shape to do it because it is worth the effort and risk .
This is a brand new carve out before our very eyes, the likes we haven’t seen in our lifetime. That flow is decimating granite. I set marble and granite for years and water has always I presssd me…

PS: Book at least a year early to get a camping spot or hotel. There's an old historic National Parks Lodge, the Ahwanee, and it's a little pricey. The Yosemite Valley Lodge (family) is also in the valley, but otherwise you'll find the next closest lodging at Wawona or Tenaya Lodges, many miles from the Valley floor but nevertheless in stunning country. You'll just have to drive down into the valley from there.

All that snow and rain Yosemite and California got over the winter is a ton but a long drought will make all that water dwindle fast is 2 or 3 yrs if el Nino causes a drought in the western US states.

We rafted down the Upper Kern River about a month ago. It was raging. The raft driver said it was flowing at 9,000 cu. ft./second. No one is going down the Lower Kern, way to dangerous.

Yeah it’s nut at spring floods. We go early summer because we love rafting Merced. We bring our own rafts because curry rafting sometimes not open. Note if you do this PLEASE scout your route carefully. Floods drag a lot of crap down and hide it under the water

That's actually the John Muir Trail. The Mist Trail is an out and back hike. Once you reach the top of Nevada Falls, you can either take the Mist Trail back down or the JMT which takes you to Clark Point and eventually merges back with the Mist Trail near the Merced. I recommend taking the JMT down to create somewhat of a loop and take in the incredible views from up top. Enjoy!

Did this hike to summit half dome last June. Vernal and Nevada were nice, but not like this! Rippin’! Even that bear 🐻 was like “what is up??!”

How do you get to the Mist trial where do I park 🤔
The regular parking area was closed due to flooding when I was there. There were lots of park signs telling us where to go. You should have no trouble once you’re in the Valley. Hope you can see it in real life too! Thanks for watching! 🤟🔥👏🙏
Yeah it’s nut at spring floods. We go early summer because we love rafting Merced. We bring our own rafts because curry rafting sometimes not open. Note if you do this PLEASE scout your route carefully. Floods drag a lot of crap down and hide it under the water

That's actually the John Muir Trail. The Mist Trail is an out and back hike. Once you reach the top of Nevada Falls, you can either take the Mist Trail back down or the JMT which takes you to Clark Point and eventually merges back with the Mist Trail near the Merced. I recommend taking the JMT down to create somewhat of a loop and take in the incredible views from up top. Enjoy!

What parts of the park are open?
Definitely check Yosemite National Park’s webpage for the latest info. A week ago I could travel beyond Curry Village. Much of the park was under water. Only the South entrance was open. There was talk of more closures…thanks for watching!! 🤟🔥👏🙌
