The inlays, they’re a throwback from the old Gibson banjo stuff. Some of the inlays on those were insane!!!
Correct, known as the "Flying Eagle" inlay from the Mastertone banjos.

I think the push pull on the Shot Dr. guitar is actually the pickup selector. You see some of the high end custom shop brands like Caparison do that a lot.
That's what I figured, there's a volume and a tone knob and push pull selects. I wondered about only two knobs, but this can get away with that. At Reverb there's a photo of the back of the pup and it's a "Reissue Firebird" so likely a closer match to the P-90 as opposed to one of Gibson's hot Firebird pups like the DeCola/Baxter ones I have that are 17/26kOhm.
In 2021 I bought my first Gibson. 60's standard ice tea. By complete random coincidence, the S/N starts 20661. This works out to March 7, 2001, which is the wedding anniversary for me and my wife. 15 years so far! Kinda blew my mind when I looked it up after I started watching your videos!

Hey Trogly, the wiring loom for the triple P90 Les Paul...the "Monty's wiring" is referring to Monty's Guitars in Cheltenham. They do custom wiring looms, pickups, guitar setups and guitar fretboard wax. Really nice folks. Have dealings with them and they have some famous customers (who shall remain nameless on here).

Honestly, that ebony/rosewood/ebony fingerboard looks more phenomenal without the binding. I didn't even know the The Les Paul had that kind of fingerboard! It gets lost next to the fancy binding. It's the binding that draws my eye away on that.

On a one-piece solid body guitar, there is no way to realistically cut a piece out the back to make the back cover matching. It would have to be cut fully through the guitar, which would leave the front looking bad. If it wasn't just one solid piece of wood, then it could be made out of the same piece so it looks almost seamless.

For $2500 I'd rather have that deep purple Les Paul Classic over a generic 1 pickup Billy Jo Armstrong LP. Love the double cut Koa lefty Special and the previous SG! Great episode Trogly thank you!

I’ve been in the market for a junior lately, honestly fingers crossed for a lefty version of that Silver Mist finish. That’s a hell of a premium for a junior but me being a Green Day fan since I was 6 I feel like I’d have to jump on it if they were to make a lefty.
That junior is about $1600 over priced.

I love that Silver Mist Junior, but I wish it had a regular Dog Ear and just make it a regular production model with a regular case for $1799.
Hey Mr. Trogg......Just found your channel, and i absolutely love it!!......I am a log home builder, but in 2011, i was in a terrible car accident that left me disabled, so i built myself a tiny wood shop and started to build Les Paul style guitars. About your comment on the Koa control cavity cover plate, there is a reason they normally don't match the body's wood grain and figuring. In order to do so, you would have to cut a 3/16" slab from the wood billet, then cut the cavity cover from that because the cavities are routed out, and the way the cavities have a relieved shoulder they set in, the wood cannot be harvested from from that area to be used for the cover, but what i have done in the past is wrapped the cover with pearloid binding (I only use pearloid binding on all of my guitars, and i don't understand why its not availible for custom shop orders) and that puts a nice touch on them. I also build a custom keepsake box in the shape of the headstock and do my best to duplicate everthing from the guitar, to the box. Someday when i have some spare time, I'd love to build you a keepsake box in the "style" of a Les Paul headstock, and ship it to ya......anyways, THNX a ton for the extremely informative guitar videos you offer to us everyday!!.....I've learned so much about the history, and general things about guitars that i wouldn't have learned anywhere else!!
Dear Trogly, I know with the custom SG it said "maple". But being a pipesmoker (and guitar player), the wood used looks very much like briar. Which is used in the making of smoking pipes. That bird's-eye on the back looks exactly like the bird's-eye on many of my pipes. If it really was briar it would have been the first briar guitar I have ever seen.

The wooden cavity cover likely came from a different piece of Koa, to get it matching exactly you’d need to have the back be a separate piece of maple and cut the cover out before you glue it on to the body.
Saw a guy busking on the subway with a 50’s style Gibson Flying V, and then another guy at my transfer stop with the Jerry Cantrell acoustic (black top with the white box around the soundhole. Busking is lucrative apparently! I’m in the wrong business. 😂

Monty's Guitars is a well regarded pickup maker and guitar tech/repair shop that used to be in London, but recently moved to Cheltenham. They have a pretty impressive client list (Gilmour, Townsend, Tim Pierce etc). I don't know any specifics of what their wiring loom is though.

Wouldn't the push pull pots on that LH one be more likely to be one-off switches for each pickup? Then they can be normal master vol and master tone as well.
I have this same exact guitar.. it's not a Billy Joe though it's an epiphone. It's one of my favorite guitars and I own 31. I been playing for 41 years and it's slowly become one of my favorite guitars
I've been looking for a nice SG from 1971, but while I've found plenty of SGs, I've yet to find one I really like...

I’d imagine they can’t match the rear cavity cover due to the way the cavity is cut on a cnc
Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple did play a Gibson ES-335 in the early days of DP and played most of the album In Rock using the Gibson ES-335. His was a 1961 and was Cherry Red and he installed a Bigsby B5 Tremolo. I seen him play it on a Playboy After Dark TV apperance back in 1969 or 1970. He switched over to the Fender Strat after 1970. I always thought that Gibson should have made a Signature ES-335 for Blackmore as he is one of the all time greats.
He HAD to switch. His first wife got it in a divorce settlement.
Bird's-eye maple top. That is totally lucky. 4 thousand is a bit steep. Modifications drive prices down. But I like the whole look of that guitar. For me the 1 little turn off is the back. Natural or if anything black.
Speaking of Birthday guitars, what if you were born on a Saturday? Does Gibson have weekend production serial numbers?
I can’t say for sure, but my best guess is that like many other manufacturers there will be Saturday (and even Sunday) production when the demand warrants it.
This show started with another bunch of guys from a band I never heard of, but then you showed off custom wood Gibson's and that's what guitars should show, the wood - it's all about the art of nature in the guitar. I'm not using kind of wood shown. I'm using Koa and a birdseye from my back saved from 82 with a mahogany 11/2" strip with natural green in the wood. It was too cool to use it again somehow? Eventhough the body looks great, I just started working on my basses. They are needing fingerboards and jewelry (shells and art). For 5-strings cause I love's me low bass when I'm recording on an 8 channel Roland digital recorder that fits in my pockets! It's freaking cool!

hey Austin. Monty is a British niche/boutique store. they have those "Gary Moore sound pick up" because before Kirk bought the guitar, they usually repair and have access to Greeny Guitar. The pickup sound heavenly on Les Paul. They sell fretboard dye to make Fender Pau Perro fretboard darker as well. Monty repaired/service many artist in UK/EU from what i heard.

I don't get why it wouldn't work on guitars from between 2015-2019, as you said, it just starts with those numbers (Really makes more sense that instead of spreading them appart.) and the rest keeps going as they've done for years, or am I missing something?
2014-early 2019 used the 1994 style YYxxxxxx serial system where you can't tell what day it was stamped on. It is only the year and a production number

Gibson is increasingly becoming just a shadow of itself. All this focus on "signature" guitars with ridiculous prices is just a sign that Gibson cannot compete with the smaller American boutique builders when it comes to quality and playability.
So instead of quality control they go the easy route and start selling mass amounts of "signature" models that have maybe one or two special appointments then charge sometimes thousands of dollars extra..
Modern day Gibson is becoming a joke amongst actual gigging guitar players.
