I don't typically watch any British beauty creators other than you, but I was branching out the other day and saw someone using that baking technique. I could FEEL the moisture getting sucked out of my skin! I have dry, dehydrated skin (except where my glasses sit, those spots get a little oily). I sometimes use the tip of the mascara trick, but only after really wiping the product off in the container, and using very little product. THIS is such a great channel ~ I’m 51 and love watching makeup/skincare videos. I never honed my makeup application skill, I just put on the basics and being young with good skin that worked fine back then. Now being more mature 😊, I need a little bit more than the basics. So, I practice, because I’m not a makeup artist and there are SO many techniques and tips and trends. Your advice just clicks with me so THANK YOU🎉 I’m really enjoying practicing and playing with makeup ~ because if it looks like shit, I just wash it off and start over😂. I obviously started with getting my skin in a great spot first and never leave the house anymore without sunscreen. ✨Cheers Robert!
I personally love spider lashes 😭😭😭💕💕💕 my lower eye lashes are so long anyways even if I apply little mascara it’s still very daddy long leg looking 😂💕
I love spidery mascara XD I really enjoy having defined sections at the outer corner rather than a full bottom lash, while leaving the inner corer more open
I also hate the overly drenched bottom lashes. I very carefully make sure my bottom lashes are lightly coated with mascara. I like to keep the drama on my top lashes.
I do the no no. I use the left over foundation/ concealer on my sponge. My eyelids are very dry. I never put powder on my lids to set. Just the eyeshadow. My shadow usually lasts 8 to 10 hours. I never touch up. My eyeliner will fade a bit. But the shadow stays. So i just keep doing what works for me. 🤷♀️
Same! Plus, it’s just something I’ve been doing for over 35 years, and never really stopped… The only exception is if I use a very shimmery shadow, and I want it to really pop, I’ll use something like NYX Glitter Glue, as I prefer not to use a damp brush…
thank you for explaining eye primer in such detail!! all the dos and donts super helpful to be told not to use concealer as it gets told so often to use, didnt realise it has hydration so defeating the purpose and thats why not working!
the problem of drawing cream makeup on the face & then blending everything at once is less about the base & more that, you just.. cant blend contour & highlight together.. it defeats the purpose? like the products muddy together and blend into areas they shouldnt go..
I actually don’t wear eyeshadow, but have oily eyelids & at 38 have a few veins showing & use the Zigma stick to just even out my lids tone. So thank you for finally giving me a recommendation that works, & doesn’t look like makeup, when blended out ❤👍🏼
I've never heard of baking eye shadow. After seeing your demonstration, I agree, it's unnecessary and dulls the shine! It's.a no on any sort of baking, except for cakes...we can bake those. LOL
I think the crazy lines of concealer and contour was started by the Seint MLM women, it became popular with women who had too many cream stick products due to overbuying, then it got trendy just bc it creates interesting looking clickbait thumbnails on TikTok BUT I hate it too because it smears EVERYTHING INTO THE WRONG PLACE. Thank you for speaking out against it.
I finally figured out what the baking the undereyes reminds me of! It looks like mandrills. The makeup and the layout of it totally looks like those critters😅

Oh man, I value and appreciate you so much. You've introduced me to products that I love and you've helped up my makup game SO much. You're truly a treasure
I absolutely LOVE your videos! They are so helpful. I agree with all of your points but I didn’t know about the eye primer, I thought I was doing it wrong by not setting it. Thank you so much for clarifying that.
Spooky season idea: your eyeshadow reflected off the baking powder & your skin looked slightly green but omg in a good way. I really wanna see you done up as a glam Martian lol!!!
OMG you’re amazing! I’ve been using eye primer and powder for a while! And it just so happens that I have a Sigma Eyeshadow Base Primer that I forgot about!! Yay! Good to know! Deleting one step sounds great to me!!
I love the demos of wrong techniques so I can see exactly what is wrong. I have gotten so much better and seeing the difference between good and bad makeup applications.
I will say that if I have a darker eyeshadow that is just not blending, I take the tiniest amount of translucent setting powder and use that to buff it out. I would rather have a muted look than a patchy one, and this can help salvage a look when I don’t have time to start over
"Wait a couple minutes for your eye primer to set, do something else really quick, like your eyebrows." Robert if you are telling me it only takes you a couple of minutes to do those amazing brows, I'm going to scream. My brows are super skinny and nowhere near as glamorous as yours and it takes me at LEAST 10 minutes to do them to make them look just alright. If I want them perfect... oh my God, by that time the primer will be long gone because my eyelid skin will have shed and renewed itself twice over.
I would love to see you do a full breakdown of contemporary 'British makeup'. Not the 'chav' style that a lot of people think of, but a full face of the typical products/techniques that are popular today. There are definitely preferences for certain colours and finishes too. I don't think I know another country with such a strong preference for a 'nude' lip... maybe Sweden?
I’m so glad you bought up the crusty dusty 😅 powdering down the sides of the nose as I’ve never understood how that’s supposed to look good and actually look like the shadows we have on the sides of the nose. I also don’t understand when people over blush and bronze their nose so their nose looks completely brown whereas the rest of their face looks white.
Thank you!! No need to set eye primer with powder! I thought there was something wrong with me because I don't want to do that and thought it rendered the primer useless.
10:34-ish: "When I wipe this off it's going to look really smooth... That's a camera trick" YES! It's the same camera trick that Max Factor et al were going for with those ultra powdered makeup looks!
Me over here setting my eye primer.... 👀 Did what Robert said and waited a few minutes, patted the small crease out and it was good to go 😊 I think this became a thing because of impatience tbh
I’ve heard of beat your face with foundations and concealer but I’ve never heard of baking… When you first said that I thought “huh? People are putting their makeup in the oven?” lol!!!!!
As an oily lid girl I HAAAATE when ppl use concealer as an "eye primer", eye primer is a god send for me. No matter what eyeliner I'd use would always smudge before I found out about it, now no matter what liner I use, it doesn't move, even if I accidentally rub my eyes ❤️

Also, be aware of anything around your eyes that's oil based. Can make stuff smear.
Yeah I see that nose and the undereye baking on a lot of 12-17 year olds here in Norway 😅
I see that in my area of the US as well!
It's a worldwide epidemic!! 😂
“I don’t mind if you do it, just do it…. Nicely.” 🙃
The green makeup for this is very fitting. Its giving very EWW vibes. Stinky aura with flies moodboard 💚
Yes thank you Robert, I never understood seeing people setting their eye primer. I have been watching you for years, and never use a concealer as a primer for my lids! ❤
Juggling! James-Robert-Twins!!! Eek!!! 😂😂💜🖤💜
I literally learned every technique i now use from Robert, that’s the best way to go!
That green eyeshadow looks amazing on you!!! I am gonna have to try my hand at colors, and break out of neutrals only. Always happy to see you, James, and Beautiful and Bothered for my Sunday must watch beauty (and more) fun.
I know a lot of people didn't like the e.l.f . eye primer, but I LOVE it. I think people maybe just didn't know how to use it. I use a spatula to get a small amount out, and then rub it between my fingers to warm it. It goes on really smooth, spreads easily, and my eyeshadow wears all day or night beautifully.
I personally love spider lashes 😭😭😭💕💕💕 my lower eye lashes are so long anyways even if I apply little mascara it’s still very daddy long leg looking 😂💕
i love Robert's "castanet playing" hands at 4:57 lol
I love spidery mascara XD I really enjoy having defined sections at the outer corner rather than a full bottom lash, while leaving the inner corer more open
I also hate the overly drenched bottom lashes. I very carefully make sure my bottom lashes are lightly coated with mascara. I like to keep the drama on my top lashes.
If you listen to Robert, you’ll always look good. 😍
Same here! 😅
Same! Plus, it’s just something I’ve been doing for over 35 years, and never really stopped… The only exception is if I use a very shimmery shadow, and I want it to really pop, I’ll use something like NYX Glitter Glue, as I prefer not to use a damp brush…
thank you for explaining eye primer in such detail!! all the dos and donts
super helpful to be told not to use concealer as it gets told so often to use, didnt realise it has hydration so defeating the purpose and thats why not working!
it works for me because i have dry skin and eyelids but i only use it if i run out of primer
Lots of wrong-colour foundations and excessive concealer on teens-20s here in Australia 🇦🇺
the problem of drawing cream makeup on the face & then blending everything at once is less about the base & more that, you just.. cant blend contour & highlight together.. it defeats the purpose? like the products muddy together and blend into areas they shouldnt go..
LOL
I think the crazy lines of concealer and contour was started by the Seint MLM women, it became popular with women who had too many cream stick products due to overbuying, then it got trendy just bc it creates interesting looking clickbait thumbnails on TikTok
BUT I hate it too because it smears EVERYTHING INTO THE WRONG PLACE. Thank you for speaking out against it.
Couldn't agree more about the baking!
I finally figured out what the baking the undereyes reminds me of! It looks like mandrills. The makeup and the layout of it totally looks like those critters😅
Omg 😂
Lmao! You're right!!
Got home just in time to chill and watch some good makeup, and one of my favourite people. Thank you for always being a consistent amazingness in this crazy world
Oh man, I value and appreciate you so much. You've introduced me to products that I love and you've helped up my makup game SO much. You're truly a treasure
I love watching/hearing your videos as I do my face for the day.
I dont start my day without them.
Thank you for all you do ❤
I have oily, very creased lids. I absoluuuuuutely need eyeshadow primer!!
Lip contouring. I don’t get it. It doesn’t make a difference once the lipstick goes on. Just seems like a waste of time.
Elphaba realness.
OMG you’re amazing! I’ve been using eye primer and powder for a while! And it just so happens that I have a Sigma Eyeshadow Base Primer that I forgot about!! Yay! Good to know! Deleting one step sounds great to me!!
No but with the Wicked colour makeup the spidery bottom lashes look so gooood
I love the demos of wrong techniques so I can see exactly what is wrong. I have gotten so much better and seeing the difference between good and bad makeup applications.
I will say that if I have a darker eyeshadow that is just not blending, I take the tiniest amount of translucent setting powder and use that to buff it out. I would rather have a muted look than a patchy one, and this can help salvage a look when I don’t have time to start over
"Wait a couple minutes for your eye primer to set, do something else really quick, like your eyebrows."
Robert if you are telling me it only takes you a couple of minutes to do those amazing brows, I'm going to scream. My brows are super skinny and nowhere near as glamorous as yours and it takes me at LEAST 10 minutes to do them to make them look just alright. If I want them perfect... oh my God, by that time the primer will be long gone because my eyelid skin will have shed and renewed itself twice over.
Ever since I started watching you I have used a good eye primer and I haven’t looked back. Your knowledge has helped my makeup game so much ❤
I would love to see you do a full breakdown of contemporary 'British makeup'.
Not the 'chav' style that a lot of people think of, but a full face of the typical products/techniques that are popular today. There are definitely preferences for certain colours and finishes too. I don't think I know another country with such a strong preference for a 'nude' lip... maybe Sweden?
I knew IMMEDIATELY what you were talking about with the white powder lines down the nose! It looks bizarre! 😂
Based on your recomondation - got myself sigma primer.
I have hooded and oily eyelids.
Can't wait to try 😊
Thank you!! No need to set eye primer with powder! I thought there was something wrong with me because I don't want to do that and thought it rendered the primer useless.
I love these videos you make! They’ve helped me soooo much with makeup! Thank you 😘😘😘
only time I “bake” is when I’m super oily and tbh it’s wiped off right away and it’s just so I’m not a grease ball
Thank you for the eye primer "crease" info and fix!
loved the green eye look before baking.
I love your giggle both you and James crack me up!
1st twins now you love Sunday.
Hi Robert, can you please do a simple smoky eye tutorial. Always love watching your new uploads ❤.
Dang! I’ve been guilty of all of these techniques. Thanks Robert for educating us all. ❤
2:55 honestly, the smashbox eye primer has been my ride or die for years
10:34-ish: "When I wipe this off it's going to look really smooth... That's a camera trick" YES! It's the same camera trick that Max Factor et al were going for with those ultra powdered makeup looks!
Yes, im worh you on all these. Especially the spidery lashes.
Me over here setting my eye primer.... 👀
Did what Robert said and waited a few minutes, patted the small crease out and it was good to go 😊
I think this became a thing because of impatience tbh
Most of my techniques are learned from you. And most of my products are from your recommendations. Always nice to see what not to do.
I have oily eyelids and use the urban decay primer, works great for me. But I definitely have to try the sigma one 😊
My fav eyeshadow primer rn is the one by NYX, it works super well on my oily lids. It dries but is slightly tacky for eyeshadow...I love it!
I suddenly realized that I know enough about makeup for this to make total sense to me. It is good to know what not to do and why.
I need to have a moment trying to divine how you got those Greens looking so stunning, no need for virality.
I’ve heard of beat your face with foundations and concealer but I’ve never heard of baking…
When you first said that I thought “huh? People are putting their makeup in the oven?”
lol!!!!!
