Yes! Last year I was sick for a whole month and wasn't going anywhere nor I bothered to put on any makeup. When I eventually got better, I just liked my no makeup look so much that I didn't want to do my makeup at all 😅 Took me a couple of days to have that real yearning to put some proper makeup but even then I decided to slow down a bit and use way less than I used to.
@@GiovannaIwishyou I have gone through the exact same thing. I have a serious chronic illness, so I only wear makeup a few times a month. I just use a tinted moisturizer, blush, powder, eyebrow pencil and lipgloss!

The worst type of this blindness is lip injection blindness. It truly shocks me how many people do not see how ridiculous they look with lips that are about 3x the size they should be on their face
Oh yess...sometimes it's a feel like hurting myself and I feel it about this Persons....WHY they are destroying their Lip-Texture, the "Flesh", bc I'm from Medicine, studied Chemistry, Biology and Physiology so long and in really harsh Educations...I can't proof it - but I know for myself, this will give or spend not a good End! 😢😮😓 Make the very best of YOURSELF - but only by using good Make-Up Tricks, nice Colors and Technics (thanks a lot always to Robert and some other very talented MUA's 💞✌🏼❣️) , but please only take good, the best Care of your Skin, take Care in Front of harsh Sun-Light = wear good SPF....but leave your Skin without injecting all over - only my Opinion, and also my Decision for myself, too! I was told never to comment on anyone's makeup because the only thing that might be holding them together was a bit of eyeliner. Makeup is like their armor. I think you did a lovely job explaining this "makeup blindness" without being mean and I want to thank you for that. I hope you have an amazing week ahead!
You are right. My sister-in-law is beautiful. But, she won't leave the house without her face. Someone told her that her foundation was too light. She hasn't left the house for 4 days. She keeps trying different blends, etc. Shame on people.
I know someone with the boxed-in eyebrows and I can't help but stare! I wonder if they're tattooed on, but I can't ask! Of course most people don't say anything. What would I say? "You're eyebrows are nuts! What are you thinking?" lol
@@BampoeGhanaLifehide her makeup and wait till her food runs out and then she’ll have to go outside and realize nobody cares or notices. exposure therapy. /hj
I feel like this was especially true during the Goth years. I totally understood at the time and tried to say nice things. I'm glad I don't see influencers these days
It kind of annoys me how they say “why nobody told me?” But then if someone had mention anything about whatever looks a little odd or out of place, some people on social media would react really badly, if not them, their followers would just throw hate at you…
Bruh shut up everyone had a makeup blindness when they tried makeup and I did too it happens with everyone eyelashes anything it’s not just women say James Charles and his big eyebrows was makeup blindness
Oh I have to comment again because the “take a break” advice is something I learned from a teacher when working on art. You really do have to reset your perception otherwise you start becoming desensitized to mistakes.
Artists do this all the time. We'll have multiple pieces going because we literally are too close to what's good or bad about a piece. You get perspective.
I'd never thought of it before but as an ok knitter (nothing too complicated) I find if a mistake happens, if I put it down and start again a while later, it all becomes clear.
Or looking at it mirrored. When I was drawing digitally I'd flip the image and any inconsistencies would automatically stand out. Although I hate looking at unmirrored photos of myself (gets a bit uncanny valley 😂), it really helps me see if my brows or lip line is uneven.
@@DannersKananersExactly! Especially with a portrait or something you want to be symmetrical, looking at it in a mirror, or flipping your sketch over and tracing it on the other side will show you if there is a special error.
I think what's hilarious about the eyebrow blindness trend is that none of them seem to understand how having completely straight or arched browse with minimal to no tail is not natural either. Yeah, if you think you had eyebrow blindness then what makes you think that you don't have it now? He's right that trends are the most ubiquitous way that people look at things.
💯 I was looking at "nobody had eyebrow blindness like me" girl and thinking yikes, the blindness is worse now than it was in the old photos. IN MY OPINION, ALLEGEDLY.
Literally the best eyebrows are ALWAYS just whatever your natural shape is, enhanced a little bit. And by enhanced I mean plucking stray hairs or filling in sparse areas. (If you want to do anything at all!) Changing your brows drastically will always look weird. Unless you're doing a super alt or super wild look on purpose and that's your aesthetic in which case go nuts
The "no tail" thing - I think those are just her natural brows 😅 Might shock you, but some people only have half brows with a tail that fades out as the hairs get sparser. I see it a lot in East Asians, for example
@@tessabutwithoutnumbersyes I was thinking the same think but felt so bad to say 😂 I know she’s just following the big eyebrow laminated brow trend but tbh it looks bad on almost everyone, except maybe supermodels and even then.
meanwhile I'm just out here, I wanna try shaving half my eyebrow off so it's like shiba inu "eyebrows" but then again I'm studying something creative and just wanna experiment, conventional beauty or looking natural was never the goal (I love this look rn btw it looks hilarious, it's great)
I feel for younger women like my daughters in their 20s. It’s not that I wouldn’t love to have my youthful skin back, but all this focus on the minutiae of makeup seems so exhausting and anxiety-inducing. When you’re my age I promise you’ll look at pictures of yourself at 20, 25, 30 and think “Why did I think I wasn’t beautiful then?” Because you ARE beautiful, right now, as you are. Do your makeup how YOU like it, or skip makeup if you want. ❤️
I wish I could like this 57568 times. Yes. When you get older, you just think about how lovely you were. You will wonder why you thought you were ugly, fat or what ever. You're beautiful!
Truth❤ It’s very concerning how important we learn to think that that bloody glass skin is. The coldhearted industry, and the oceans of anxiety it causes. May this sh*t end soon.
@@martinamjj7450 ❤😢 That’s so sad sister. It’s hard to navigate and to like ourselves, when constantly fed with this heartless, stressful, unrealistic BS all the time. Makes me so angry. I’m 36 and when I try to imagine how it would be to be your age in these times, and I don’t know how I would handle it. It seems extremely hard to like oneself these days. And it’s so unforgivable and cruel to put so many young people through this. It steals so much time and energy from our precious lives. So unacceptable. I hope you find people that makes you forget about all that empty sh*t. Hugs❤
My husband’s cousin has the worst lip liner blindness I’ve ever seen, and I hated the feather brow and insta-brow trends but it makes the people who like those trends feel beautiful to do them, so I keep my damn mouth shut about it. Not a single person on earth is going to walk around feeling less beautiful because I tried to impose my personal preferences on them.
For 25 years I’ve had thin and drawn on brows and I got so many shit comments about it and was even bullied online by a boyfriend’s ex. I lost my brows due to autoimmune disease so it wasn’t a choice I was making. I ended up getting them tattooed my a regular tattoo artist (this was pre-cosmetic tattooing) and then just got more shitty comments about them. I never could win.
@@xeaux I’m so sorry, that should never happen! Brow trends are so cyclical and I think it’s easy for people to forget that having brows that will support following trends is a luxury that people with fine brows, certain illnesses, and some other things I can’t think of off the top of my head right now will simply never have the opportunity to partake in. Tastes are so individualized too, so no one is ever going to be pleased by everyone’s aesthetic and it shouldn’t be expected!
The best brow tutorial I go by is from Mario. Start filling in and shaping at the end and work your way to the beginning of your brows. It’s helped me tremendously.
To the woman who wore white eyeshadow under her brows... You remind me of my sister from that era. Chicana culture in the 2000s will always have a place in my heart. A little frosty brow bone never hurt anyone!
And, as they age, though, they don’t change the look at all. 😢 I see so many older ladies trying to still be 1985, and it looks awful. Dyed black hair and too much almond eye liner and layers of mascara, all globby. Adds 20 years to you.
Honestly, I think this whole x-blindness trend is either an excuse to fish for compliments or to bash others. Like with the lip girl, instead of 'I don't like the way you do your lips' it's 'sorry girl you've got lip blindness, I'm objectively right and your makeup is wrong'
@msdouglas12100 right! Any little sassy girl young and older will tell you what's up if they are comfortable enough to read you. Let me tell you! My girl is 21 and words hurt. But, I don't want to look like a fool, so she keeps me straight. And she really does her makeup beautifully so I guess it's ok.
I stay wingin it. But as an Elder Scene Kid, I am tired so I do much less make up now. The wings aren’t going anywhere tho. And neither is the black eye liner that’s as dark as my soul. 😂😅
Right? It was a little further out than I would take it, but she did it really beautifully like Robert said. Absolutely no shame there. Can she come teach me??
Hate the obsession with tearing ourselves apart and criticising everything :/ sure we can have a quick “oh noooo” when we look back at pictures but it’s so deep these days and it doesn’t need to be 😩
I dont really like how this trend is making people paranoid about how they look, this has become a "nice" way of commenters just insulting the way someone does they makeup without giving any actual actionable advice so now every beautiful person on the internet is worrying about whether their lips looks nice, whether their brows are the problem, is it the eyeliner? The hair? The way its spread is just unlocking new insecurities
I’m glad that you mention that it was a trend at the time. It’s almost comedic how we collectively seem to always believe that the current beauty standards and trends are the ultimate ideal.
Girl, same. I never even thought about my brows because my glasses frames covered them. Well---then I had cataract surgery and just need readers. I saw my brows are getting grey and a little sparse so figured I'd just whack on a tinted gel and good enough....hahaha no.
Same! The way I cannot see when I’m doing my makeup at all. That’s why I make my younger sister give me a once over before I leave the house if I’m wearing makeup so she can make sure I look right
Honestly to me the whole "makeup blindess" thing is yet another thing for mostly women to be insecure about. Especially if people are now afraid that theyre currently experiencing some type of makeup blindess, relax, if you like your look then thats what you do. And yeah everyone looks back at their old photos and cringe but does it really matter? No. Enjoying the moment and being secure with yourself ensures that you never feel any type of makeup/look "blindess".
From the perspective of a neuroscience grad: what you've described in "taking a step away" is really the key to SO MANY aspects of human psychology. We really can lose our sense of perspective, not being able to "see the woods for the trees" as some might say. When too close to something, we can and often do lose clear sense of perspective. That's why therapists need therapists of their own, why doctors can't write scripts for themselves, and why sometimes you might encounter the phrase "learned helplessness" in which victims of abusive relationships may become accustomed to their relationship dynamic as normal or unavoidable. We ALL fall victim to this. Don't stress if you look back on your 2016 brows with disdain, many do 😅
Exactly! I was thinking about the thing that our brains do when we drive a regular route-it fills in the background from memory so we are focused on driving. So many times I have ridden with a friend and asked, ‘when did that new building get there?’😂
Indeed! At the same time, if it's the aesthetic is the wish the wearer is wearing, the wearer likes it, who is anyone else to say something does not look good. It would be arguable.
@@justkiddin84I have (unfortunately) done this many times myself! Driven somewhere I go often and just “zoned out”! When I arrived I would be thinking “how did I get here?” It’s honestly crazy to think about!!! 😮
@@loco7357Me too! There's a stop sign on my way home that more often than not, I wonder if I stopped at. Kinda terrifying. It's really amazing what our brains can do!
This is just sad, that one lady who was like "do I have blindness" while looking flawless, this is giving people a complex now. I feel like a huge problem with tik tok is giving people insecures they didn't have before.
Trends are one thing, but I think the blindness when you just have "bad makeup" is largely because you have a vision in your head of what you were trying to do and you're kinda seeing that vision instead of seeing what you actually look like. It reminds me of how my younger brother is currently 24 years old, but to me he doesn't look like a grown man because in my mind he's still like 11, so when I look at him I don't really see what he looks like, I see what my internal idea of him is. Of course he doesn't literally look 11, but my mind kinda ages him down significantly because I'm projecting the features I've seen on him growing up, you know? Similarly with makeup, you may project your idea of what it's supposed to look like.
Oh my god this, i literally do this to my younger brother too, all the way down to his hair. I will literally call him (a brunette) blond just because that’s how I knew his hair growing up, crazy how that happens!
it also happens in an opposite way with women who keep wearing the same exact makeup for 30 years meanwhile their faces have changed. It's some sort of makeup blindness. When I look at my older photos I may find my make wrong but the face was so much better and it shocks me, especially as I felt ugly then I was so pretty instead.
Someone actually had the audacity to ask me to my face why I did my make up a certain way…. I don’t think they expected me to say, “Because I like it this way.” They looked confused, as if they were surprised I said that….. Like it was as if they expected me to be like, “I know- it’s awful isn’t it?” People can’t seem to understand some people just have different taste. Oh well- more weird stuff for me. 🤪
Can I suggest you some answers, please? (As a goth who' s been asked this and that all her life and one day decided to go creative). 1. Oh, it' s a religious thing. One of our 66 commandments😌. 2. Because when I woke up my partner was not there and I found a note instead: IF YOUR EYELINER DOESN' T REACH YOUR HAIRLINE, SOMEONE WILL DIE TODAY. I' LL BE WATCHING YOU. (If you are skilled, proceed to cry😰). 3. Because I lost a bet. I want to remove it so bad! 🫣 4. What? Are tou telling me that my eyeliner is THAT long???!!! Omg! THANK YOUUU!!! I hadn' t realized. What the hell would I have done if you didn' t tell me? Seriously, endless gratitude🙌🏼. They are all royalty free, needless to say. Don' t hesitate to use and modify them😜. 🧛🏻♀️🖤
Omg , I work in a bar and people, older I might add make comments all the time about my make up and clothes! Wtf! To add I'm 50 years old lol . My lashes look dumb I get and my socks are wrong!! Oh and I'm way too skinny!
My roommate got asked by a coworker, "How are you always so colorful?", and seemed genuinely surprised when my roommate said that when they went shopping for clothes, they went to stores with colorful clothes and bought them.
it's the age-old dunning-kruger effect 😭 we overestimate our skills in the beginning, but as we learn more, our eye improves, and we become more critical of our abilities so our skills improve but our perception of them decreases. im really fascinated by the concept in terms of skill building, but i never applied it to makeup until now lolol
I underestimate my skills until someone says I look good. I'm neutral and high saturation but low contrast, so I need less sheer formulas but softer colors, and more colors.
Phew i have never in my life had confidence when i go into something, except for maybe the confidence of knowing i don’t know anything lol but that’s on having a Korean mom 🥲

That second to last woman who was questioning herself was absolutely STUNNING in every way. I do not care about makeup blindness. If people think my blush and glitter is too much oh well 😂 it’s fun! And I love it! Y’all should do the same. Have some fun with your makeup guys!
It’s called I’m over 40 and I don’t give a sh*t anymore. I’m running late for work, can’t see with my glasses off and can’t apply eye make up with them on, not current on the new trends, dead tired, over worked and under appreciated and this is the best I’m going to look. I am in that stage of life and I LOVE IT ! I dont wear makeup but just now I am daring to wear clothes shoes and accessories I never did before cause I thought I would look ugly or ridiculous. At this age I have more "flaws" than ever before but the thing is: I.Do. Not. Care. Anymore. It so sooo damn liberating !
Okay, almost all of these people looked completely fine! I don’t get it. The looks might not be trendy right now, but they still looked good! The white beneath the brow one particularly got me, because that make up really suited her!
Saying someone has “blank blindness”because you don’t like how it looks is so inaccurate and rude. I understand the term but it seems like people are using it incorrectly so I really appreciate this video! I love that you differentiated it between trend or makeup blindness because most of them were trends.
The moment of self awareness of your body in the room made me laugh so hard. There are just some days I feel like a robot who just became self aware and it always makes me giggle, so to see others go through it is so funny to me
All this tells me is we're so hard on ourselves. Most of these videos are seriously just trends or what we thought was popping at the time. This is a really bad social indicator. Great video though Robert
The ”take a break” advice is good. We use this advice in writing, especially with drafts and when something feels weird or lacking. We would step away from what we wrote for a day or so and then come back to it with fresh eyes. And it's always fascinating to see how good or bad the stuff we wrote actually was because the state of our mind during the time we wrote that is different from today.
4:30 That's the perfect tip!! ❤ I do that when I'm drawing portraits. I stop every 30 or 40 minutes, look around the room, go get a cup of tea and so on. As soon as I get back to it, the "mistakes" are way more noticeable. It also works with writing or any other project you might be working on. (I also do this with makeup. As I'm doing my makeup, I always watch videos on RUclips, so I'm not glued to my reflection in the mirror, neither the screen. It's a back and forth, so my eyes get reset every few minutes.)
well, the good news is, pretty much everyone goes through it at some point, and they all improve the more they practice. granted, it's good to try and practice the right thing, but like makeup changes dramatically every 10 years, so just do the best you can :) sincerely, someone who finally figured out eyeliner lol
I beg you- try out a colorful 60s mod eyeshadow look! I hated my face and hated makeup, but trying a colorful non-trending look helped me find fun in makeup xx
I love how you're saying "I'm sorry" while you're actually complimenting them that they were on trend 😂. I had concealerblindness when I just got the MAC pro-concealer. I was so happy I found a concealer that REALLY covered my dark circles, I just didn't notice my face was flat 🤣
I think the current style of combing eyebrow hairs upwards will be looked at the same way in ten years. Tbh I find the style weird in the present too *confession time over*
I think the style is interesting in an editorial kind of way, but not as everyday makeup. With the overgrown-ness of the brows, it reminds me of old grandpa eyebrows lol
I never tried any of the trends, but then I've been doing my makeup since the 70s, and I truly enjoy seeing everyone experimenting and leaning into the trends. I do my makeup however I feel that day, or just moisturizer and sunscreen, but anyone who wants to try any trend or not, brava or bravo! Feel good about yourself, and cut yourself some slack.

Its related to body dysmorphia generally! You think you look awful without makeup so any makeup that gets you closer to trend of the day seems like an improvement. Even many celebrities and models from past trends look ridiculous now, even when done by top mua of the day.
Another blindness is wearing a trend from a 100 years ago and not changing as we get older! I was a makeup artist about 15 years and sometimes a client would come in with same makeup style from much younger days. Really dark eyeliner all around her eyes with tons of blue eye shadow and a strong lip. I worked for Bobbi Brown so it was my pleasure to show the client the difference in a lighter and more effective way to enhance her features with a softer look. Now I am retired and trying to adapt to more mature skin makeup yet still follow the trends somewhat. Love you Robert🥰
The eyeliner girl had such a slay liner, this is the shape i strive for when I do mine! I dislike current no liner trend, I have pale skin and dark eyes and brows, I feel like my makeup lacks contrast without it. Wings for life!
I'm fair skinned with blonde hair and blue eyes and naturally brown lashes. My makeup really DOES lack contrast without liner. For a more subtle look I literally just use brown liner not black
guilty😣💔luckily i’ve figured it out (i think….👀jk i’m quite sure i have because my very blunt sister approves of my makeup these days and she used to not and i know if my contour was bad she would no bs tell me lol)
You are such a sweetheart ❤. The way you are gently explaining trends and the compliments on style and execution were so refreshing from all the mean and condescending texts that add no value and purposely meant to hurt the person learning new steps in application❤. I have a teen daughter, and we watch videos of yours and your brother. She has young unblemished skin, and I plan to keep it that way. THANKS for always adding value to the makeup community.❤
4:48 where he's talking about stepping back and taking a break and then coming back to look at your make up. Makes so much sense artists do that with their paintings it makes lots of sense with makeup too. 🥰
I love this video. Youre very encouraging and sweet to these people. We all look different than we did even 2 years ago. Nothing we need to shame ourselves or eachother for. We also dont need to be walking around telling each other how awful we think they look. Its none of our business. We should be lifting each other up and complimenting them and their good qualities ❤❤
I remember when I first learned about contouring in High School, I didn’t know what I was doing and just drew two brown lines with eyeshadow on my cheeks. I was walking around the halls looking like a cartoon and no one said anything 😂😂
Omg meee toooo! 😮 loool! But I’m quite dark skin so I used black eyeshadow. Whats crazy is, this guy I liked asked me on a date that day, so I’m glad he was just as blind as me to my makeup 😂
@@raerohan4241 There’s now been a lot of studies that show that even “dissolvable” fillers are extremely hard to completely get rid of and can migrate. Once you put a foreign substance in your body that sits there and starts getting comfortable, it’s extremely difficult to get it completely out again. So, even “temporary” fillers, at least as of right now, aren’t as temporary as many people believe them to be.
the girl with the white eyshadow under the brow was absolutely rocking it though ?? Well blended, looked amazing with her black and white outfit, like you said it was the trend back then !
I try not to sweat those old photos. I know that each time I do my makeup, I do my best with the knowledge, products, and skin that I have. It doesn't always end up looking the exact way I hoped it would but it's never extreme so I have no shame. I prefer a more subtle look. I put effort into my appearance and I don't leave my home uncomfortable with my application. I can't let fear of makeup blindness be added to my list of anxieties.
I caught myself giving some nasty comments on some of these women, but then Robert was being so nice and uplifting about them all and I was so embarrassed for my nastiness 😢. Robert you make me a better person❤
I used to have makeup blindness due to low self esteem. I hated my face so my makeup was all about changing features I disliked rather than enchanting ones I like. As you can guess it wasn't flattering. Eventually I stopped over bronzing, over lining etc as I grew older and more confident, followed less trends and focused more on technique and now I am like 95% sure I don't have makeup blindness 😅
I had just mentioned the low self esteem too… don’t you wish we’d met Robert like 20 years ago so none of us had to go through low self esteem or blindness?
I kind of love things being a product of a time period. I think In some ways - yes it’s good to develop your own personal style outside of trends - but I also love when things aren’t timeless. Its a nice way to see the ways we changed alongside our culture/communities! Like the lady with the white eyeshadow, I thought she looked lovely 🩷
What a great perspective 😊 it’s like a shot into that time period like when we look at 50s style or flapper style. It was all the rage back then and maybe we wouldn’t wear that now but it sure is fun to see how things have changed over the years.
The girl who asks what people think of how she parts her hair, or if her makeup looks good, let's be honest, she just wants to receive compliments and validation. She's beautiful and she knows it.
You were lovely in how positive you were breaking these down into trends v. techniques. To me, "{insert parts someone doesn't like on someone else hete} blindness" is not a real syndrome, but just another way to allow strangers behind a keyboard to make people self-conscious, are bullying tactics, and it's perfectly fine to tell them to *meow*k off if they're being rude.
Well back in the 90s is we didn’t have videos to show how to apply makeup or what products work for our skin type. We had magazine tutorials which were basically drawings and colors like water color painting what color went where but not how to apply it. Most of us didn’t use brushes we used the small sponge applicators that came with pallets 😂. We shared tips with each other but most people didn’t wear a lot of makeup either. I still don’t wear a lot but I do like my eyeshadow better now than before.
Oh in 2016 I got married, I had my makeup done professionally. I had a trial and I hated how she did my brows but I loved the rest so day of I did my eyebrows and let her do the rest. She just used eyeshadow on my brows and didn’t make them somewhat symmetrical. I had a hormone imbalance years ago and my eyebrows didn’t fair well and are much more sparse and she just used powder so I knew that wouldn’t hold up. It was also the wrong color. The trial felt like she spent a lot of time on everything but my brows and they were a quick after thought, but I still like how I looked overall.
Imo a trend I think people will look back on and wonder why they were doing that is over highlighting the tip of the nose. Some people are a bit too heavy handed with it and then it's all I can see. A shiny target right in the center of their face, I can't look away
OK, but can we talk about the way your temples are shaved and how they fade out making your zygomatic bone look so high, oblique and elongated?😍 Brilliannnnttt!!!✨ 🧛🏻♀️🖤

Absolutely I feel like I'm experiencing makeup blindness, and hairstyle blindness too.. I can't figure out what styles and colors look the most flattering on me so I watch RUclips videos for help but just get more confused!
Oh sooo many things. But mostly learning. But really, the whole "realizing I'm sitting here doing this" was the cherry on top of this video. Bloody love it.

Definitely, I set aside a painting and start something else and then go back.
(If you want to do anything at all!)
Changing your brows drastically will always look weird.

That last sentence though. We need more people with this mindset!
@@xeaux Omg I’m sorry 🥺 People can be so unkind. Also I hope you’ve found ways to manage your autoimmune disease 💕

Yes! It is trend blindness and not "makeup blindness"
The white under the eyebrow is SUCH a look I absolutely love it, the 90s/early 2000s makeup style is absolutely coming back and she did it so well
I loved my silvery white shimmer over lilac or light blue back then. It reminds me of the club.. her zebra shirt? Perfection
Started in the 60s
Honestly, I think this whole x-blindness trend is either an excuse to fish for compliments or to bash others. Like with the lip girl, instead of 'I don't like the way you do your lips' it's 'sorry girl you've got lip blindness, I'm objectively right and your makeup is wrong'
I have the perfect solution to make up blindness. Just get yourself a really snarky daughter. She'll definitely tell you what you are doing wrong!
I have 😂one of those ! Lols! ❤
Step one: obtain baby girl
Step two: wait for her to age and hope she’s snarky 😂

@msdouglas12100 right! Any little sassy girl young and older will tell you what's up if they are comfortable enough to read you. Let me tell you! My girl is 21 and words hurt. But, I don't want to look like a fool, so she keeps me straight. And she really does her makeup beautifully so I guess it's ok.
Winged eyeliner never goes out of style, especially in alternative communities. She did a good job on hers and nothing to be ashamed about.
I love it, and still do it. 20 years now! ❤
It was bold but I liked it. It suited her features.
same w dramatic lashes, drawn on brows and black/dark lipstick in alt communities lol
Hate the obsession with tearing ourselves apart and criticising everything :/ sure we can have a quick “oh noooo” when we look back at pictures but it’s so deep these days and it doesn’t need to be 😩
Yea it can be fun to laugh at old trends but some of the videos that I see just make me sad.
Yep
I’m glad that you mention that it was a trend at the time. It’s almost comedic how we collectively seem to always believe that the current beauty standards and trends are the ultimate ideal.
My makeup blindness is just due to the fact I'm legally blind without glasses and have to look 2-3 inches from a mirror to apply eye makeup.
Girl, same. I never even thought about my brows because my glasses frames covered them. Well---then I had cataract surgery and just need readers. I saw my brows are getting grey and a little sparse so figured I'd just whack on a tinted gel and good enough....hahaha no.

You wear your make up however you please, don’t let anyone tell you how to wear it.
As long as you’re happy that’s all that matters.

Exactly! I'm so sick of BS like this.
Sometimes it doesn't look how you want it to look so it can be helpful to reevaluate

That’s a very good point
Awe that's such a nice explanation ❤
it also happens in an opposite way with women who keep wearing the same exact makeup for 30 years meanwhile their faces have changed. It's some sort of makeup blindness.
When I look at my older photos I may find my make wrong but the face was so much better and it shocks me, especially as I felt ugly then I was so pretty instead.
White eyeshadow under the brow doesn’t even look bad now… that lady’s makeup looked great AND that era of makeup trend is back in style
she looked great honestly!
Yeah it was a vibe! And early 2000s trend is back.
Agreed, and doesn't hurt that she's GREAT at doing makeup!

it's the age-old dunning-kruger effect 😭 we overestimate our skills in the beginning, but as we learn more, our eye improves, and we become more critical of our abilities so our skills improve but our perception of them decreases. im really fascinated by the concept in terms of skill building, but i never applied it to makeup until now lolol
I underestimate my skills until someone says I look good. I'm neutral and high saturation but low contrast, so I need less sheer formulas but softer colors, and more colors.

Same in painting: if you get off track, step away. Otherwise, you're going to overwork and end up with a real mess.

I get that when I’m doom scrolling by myself.. like who am I even talking to
I think some of these are humble brags. They did well and it was the trend.
Love you Robert🥰
i think the brushed up eyebrows and the extreme dense lashes are now in but in some years people will hate it looking back.
Especially lash extensions. Everyone will laugh because they had caterpillars glued to their eyelids 😂
The caterpillar eyelashes + the extreme lip filler, definitely. Over lining too, to a lesser extent
that's the problem; it's a Trend! Just do what looks good.
It was a little too long for her face and eye size but it was executed flawlessly. I would just remove like a smidge of the tail.
So excited to hear your take on this! I know I have “suffered from” NOSE CONTOUR blindness.. 😩🤦🏻♀️
lol, my mom quickly disabused me of this. She was like, why is your face dirty? 😂
@@heatherduke7703 not a dirty face 🤣🤦🏻♀️ My mom once asked me if I used a sharpie on my eyebrows during my ABH dipbrow phase 🥴
You and half the internet 😂
@@abbynormal86 Our moms had our backs 😆
guilty😣💔luckily i’ve figured it out (i think….👀jk i’m quite sure i have because my very blunt sister approves of my makeup these days and she used to not and i know if my contour was bad she would no bs tell me lol)
I really appreciate your compassion for people for being on trend. Your support and truth is so helpful for everyone. Thank you for being so real.
I love how nice you are to these girls ❤ You’re honest without being cruel and I love that about you.
Omg the lip syncing at the end 😂💀 New format unlocked.
It was so uncanny valley
yeah it was so uncanny how it was weirdly convincing. it reminded me of AI videos of people
I’m scared 😂 lol
I love that you can critique without being cruel.
Because he's a professional 🖤
Yes, he’s very refreshing considering how casually nasty people are online nowadays.
🤣🤣🫶🏼
Omg meee toooo! 😮 loool! But I’m quite dark skin so I used black eyeshadow. Whats crazy is, this guy I liked asked me on a date that day, so I’m glad he was just as blind as me to my makeup 😂
how did You not know it looked odd?
People are going to look back on fillers and cringe so much
💯! Especially Lip Fillers!
Yes. But fillers can't just be wiped off.
@@Anna81Louise They do go away and can be removed, so they're still temporary
@@raerohan4241 There’s now been a lot of studies that show that even “dissolvable” fillers are extremely hard to completely get rid of and can migrate. Once you put a foreign substance in your body that sits there and starts getting comfortable, it’s extremely difficult to get it completely out again. So, even “temporary” fillers, at least as of right now, aren’t as temporary as many people believe them to be.
the side part center part girl is definitely fishing for complements lol
Oh, YES! The playing with her hair really made it obvious to me.
didn’t know we were here to tear other women down 😅
her eyebrows are literally so good though and I wish that was more of a "trend" vs the laminated brows!
@@kitaurajunction I don't think it's a tear down just to state the obvious 😂
@@VeganDeterioration call it what you want. Seems like hater behavior over a woman who felt cute 😮💨
What I LOVE about makeup is you can remove it at the end of the day. It’s so fun to experiment and not the serious IMO.
I’ve never commented before. Oh, my goodness, Robert, your eyeshadow today is just … everything!
the girl with the white eyshadow under the brow was absolutely rocking it though ?? Well blended, looked amazing with her black and white outfit, like you said it was the trend back then !
The walking around the room to reset the eyes is such a good technique!! Especially when trying to match eyebrows 🎀🎀
💯! I remember the time I had, rather than the makeup I was wearing. The way it should be.
Cheers
I caught myself giving some nasty comments on some of these women, but then Robert was being so nice and uplifting about them all and I was so embarrassed for my nastiness 😢. Robert you make me a better person❤
The way you did your eyes in this video makes them so doll-like. True painting was done here
makeup blindness is such a good term for it. it applies so universally and it’s wild to be able to look back in retrospect and see the mistakes 😭
This is such a nice way of looking at things, thank you for sharing :)
What a great perspective 😊 it’s like a shot into that time period like when we look at 50s style or flapper style. It was all the rage back then and maybe we wouldn’t wear that now but it sure is fun to see how things have changed over the years.
I like how positive you’ve twisted this trend it makes me feel better how I looked in the past:)
The girl who asks what people think of how she parts her hair, or if her makeup looks good, let's be honest, she just wants to receive compliments and validation. She's beautiful and she knows it.
You can’t know that for sure so why not assume kind things about other people?
I love videos like this! I never go on tiktok and I get excited to consume it through someone else's eyes.
Been a viewer since the pandemic, so nice to finally see Robert with 1 million subs. 🙏
"I just realized I am sitting in a room talking to a camera" is a very Robert thing to say🤣💜
As an illustrator, I completely agree with your walk away tactic! It seriously helps!
I loved your out of body experience moment that you had to pause for. Relatable
Imo a trend I think people will look back on and wonder why they were doing that is over highlighting the tip of the nose. Some people are a bit too heavy handed with it and then it's all I can see. A shiny target right in the center of their face, I can't look away
That burgundy eye shadow is gorgeous on you!
The one with the hair was GORGEOUS! You couldn't tell me anything if I looked like her! Girl, go on and be your gorgeous self!
OK, but can we talk about the way your temples are shaved and how they fade out making your zygomatic bone look so high, oblique and elongated?😍 Brilliannnnttt!!!✨
🧛🏻♀️🖤
WHAT😅
This better be satire😭😭
You stay so relatable always! I love that you tell these people they are...that one girl, completely beautiful questioning her look made me sad...I hope she sees your video! ❤
Bad tips that wont die - over lined Cupid’s bow, highlighter down the nose, bronzer everywhere, false eyelash overkill, black eyeliner for everyone.
I still wear highlighter down the nose 😂 tbh I love it. The worst has to be covering your Cupid’s bow though. That has to be the most beautiful part of the lips.
Also, the eyeshadow today!! Robert doing the less is more! 🔥💜
