The Merovingians are so interesting, them and the Anglo Saxon kings of England have a special place in my heart, they’re steeped in mythology and so ancient that we have such little info on them, and yet they paved the way for everything!
Hi. Awesome live history video. I enjoyed it. It's great to hear from you. We all missed you. How are you and cute Rani your cat doing? I'm doing well. My cat Benjamin says hi to you and cute Rani, your cat, he sends his purrs. My cat Benjamin hates when I go out sometimes. Sometimes, he blokes me from going out for the day. Does Rani, your cat, hate when you go out for the day? Does she bloke you from going out for the day? We have lots of nice weather in Canada. We had a heatwave a few days ago. How's the weather where you are? Did you have a heatwave? Have a great day. See you next video. 😊
Rani is always happy when I return home, but she’s super easy when I go out. She gets a treat and goes to sleep… it’s cute that Benjamin’s a bit more demanding. He must be super close to you. We send our love and purrs to Benjamin !
I am working my way back slowly. I wanted to do the merovingian bloodline for a while now but didnt know how to execute the video. I’m still not very pleased with the visuals but it is what it is I guess..
Think about having to learn all those names by heart! 😱 I must say the revolutionists had very good memory. Hugo Capet lived in 9th century. Or history books were very good. Thank you for the video! I hope everything is well in your life now! 🥰
I loved the maps, because I'm a map addict. Do you have a link to share, not only for this but for future videos? There is a side story to all of this dealing with religion. So I read somewhere, at the time of the fall of the western Roman Empire, there was a struggle going on as to which facet of western christianity would prevail. The Franks, a Germanic tribe, ascribed to the philosophy of the church in Rome and rejected all other versions. Thus, they were responsible for the tenants of the christian religion that is practiced today. Perhaps you have insight into this and also to connect the political and religious events of the time. Great videos as always.
Another great addition to Nieke's content. I highly recommend the novel "Sir(e)" by Jean Raspail. It connects the french king's history from the beginning to a fictional return of the monarchy in 1999. It explains all the history and traditions and how they still could be of service. It's a great book. Thanks for the upload.
@@TheKingsofFrance Nope, it was perfect!👍 You know me: I'd have corrected you😄😄😄😄 But there's no need. And it wasn't confusing at all - not even for laymen.
So interesting to hear about the earliest kings! I knew nothing about them, but they remind me of the early Scottish kings, with king after king being killed by the next guy in line. The Scots didn't keep dividing & re-joining their kingdoms at the same time though- I swear people are just trying to confuse future historians sometimes (the HRE _definitely_ was; there's no other explanation for that insanity).
I’ve never heard any one else pronounce Pepin correctly, you must be French. I also don’t sound the S in Clovis, but I’ve noticed that exceptions to this rule are most common in names, as in Rheims, for example. Which is the correct pronunciation of Clovis? Love your videos, thank you. Too much coverage of French history is only about the Revolution, but this region had thousands of years of fascinating history before then, too! The Frankish and later the French had certainly the most influential culture in Europe during the Medieval and Early Modern periods, as Greece did in Classical times.
This family should have starred in Game of Thrones! Don't split the kingdom among your kids - unless you don't like your kids. Clovis was the only king I recognized in this. Is this the family that never cut their hair?
Such hard work, much appreciated! My best to You, Nieke! 💗 Xx (please allow me to address you by your name, and hope i got it right. i constantly read comments on your channel, and i must say, You are brilliant in what you do!)
Have you ever considered naming your son Childeric? 😅 what was going on with those names. I ❤ the kings of this ancient era for manh reasons but I'm not fond of the names. I prefer the Louis's, Charles's and Philippe's name era

@@TheKingsofFrance Oooh yay!!! The Wars of the Roses is my fave thing! I actually love all the ridiculously confusing genealogy involved in it, lol. The French definitely meddled: "chaos in England? Brilliant, how can we make it worse?" 😂 As a fan of Henry VII, I approve of France & Brittany supporting him to take the English throne, & not selling him out to Edward IV or Richard III when he was in exile.
The Bourbon kings of France, from the Capetians, from the Carolingian dynasty, from the Merovingian dynasty, from the Franks, from the Teutons, from the Bastarnians, and the Skiri from the Sarmatians, have been linked to the character of the Persian epic, Shahnama (Salam), who is Salam bin Afridun bin Aptiyan bin Jamshid bin Bhujahan bin Abhar bin Hoshang bin Garwal bin Siamak bin Misha. Those are my ancestors. Merovingian, Carolingian, Bourbon, De Orleon, Valois. Also descended from The Tuatha De Danann in Ireland... also said to be from a "mythological" origin. Kind of funny how it seems we are to believe people just popped out of nowhere and that is more believable, or somehow more acceptable than admitting they came from beings from elsewhere... LOL. SMH. They did meddle quite a bit. It might be a good subject for a video. i’ll look into that.
