Six years on from the making of the video and this very car lives in my garage. I did everything I said I would do, plus more! Unfortunately, life moves on and nobody seemed to care when I made content about it anyway, so there’s not much on here about the Protege in its current state, but you can find all you need to know on my Instagram! @hiroshimaspirit
Swap in this same engine and find the stronger transmission and rear end that go with it from a Familia GTX or GT-R. The stock AWD system wont be able to handle more power. Join clubprotege.com and/or the Club Protege Facebook group. They’ll be able to help you with all of the details.
Another great video. Very professional. Filming, voiceover and editing. Every video seems to get better and better. Also glad you finally did a video on the beast itself. Again, not a fan of the decal, but I love the early 90s protiges, and that one not only looks in great shape, but sounds fantastic. The turbo whistle put a smile on my face, and I wasn't even the one driving it. Surprised by the power under the hood to say the least. I've got a friend with a '76 Porsche 911, and it's only about 230HP. But even in the passenger seat, you can't help but smile while it drives. Alternatively, another friend has a 2013 GTI with the autobahn package I believe, and a level 1 tune. You melt into your seat in second gear, and if the thing had wings, I feel it'd lift off the ground in seconds. ANYWAY. I look forward to your weekly videos. Keep 'em coming. You're getting better, quality is getting better, and best of all, you know what you're talking about. Keep to your schedule, and you'll likely gain subscribers at a great rate. P.S. I laughed that I saw your 2 trailing behind the entire video. Presumably your father making sure you didn't go too crazy. But even though the 2 can pick up, it lagged behind when you took off in the protige
+HughTube Thanks, so much! I'm trying my best to keep up with weekly videos. It's tough sometimes to find something to do, honestly. I'm glad that you're enjoying my videos, though! Yeah, my dad was following in the 2 just making sure I didn't go too crazy with his car. He told me that on the first pull he was flat on the throttle and I (expectedly) left him in the dust. It's fun watching my own car shrink to a dot in the background. Haha I had a ton of fun making that video, but I'm also glad that I don't have money to boost the 2. I'd be in trouble. Thanks again, man!
Dude. I ownd a 1991 Mazda 323 GLX sedan and it was parked up for ywarrs . Just like 2 years ago i ha fit. So tidy and ao low Ks on it for its age. Was minta car jus had blown radiaitor and waterpump leak but easy fix. Drove it home and spent the next year or 2 tidyong it up fixing everything up and making it nice. It was deregistered afta not beong on road for ywars and revin was expensice so i jus drove the fckr withe plates frm another car
It’s a BPD from a Familia GT-R. There isn’t much done to it other than hard pipes, a front mount, and a standalone ECU. Stock bottom end, stock turbo, rebuilt head. The trans is a stock Protege LX unit with a Quaife LSD. It’s my dads car and he had a shop do the work, so if there’s anything done to it other than what’s obvious, I don’t know what it might be. It’s a very mild build, relatively speaking.
The 323 GTX was a homologation car, yes, but that was the BF generation. This Protege is a BG, and the BG 323/Familia GTR was also used in WRC Groups A and N during its production run, requiring it’s own homologation. Also, I never even mentioned the oil cap nor claimed it as a genuine Mazdaspeed item, because it definitely is an eBay cap. 🤷🏼♂️
Im looking for my frist car rn, and my friends grandpa has one. He bought it new in 1991 in Austria. Its a great little car and its really cheap here. The go for about 1000€-1500€

+Oriel Omar Gomez (AlmostProper) Hell yeah, man! I wish I still had both of mine. I hope to get another one some day. Thanks for watching!
This was my first car in high school to I learned how to drive manual and absolutely loved this car
This is currently my first car in high school and I'm in the same boat currently. I love this car so much and am working on restoring it!
First hundred views in under 24 hours! Pretty big deal for my little channel. Thanks, everyone!

Just ran across this great video. Makes me miss my 00 Protege. 😔😔
I'm finishing up this swap in my 93 escort wagon and I can't wait to drive it based off your reactions. Haha First upgrade though...E153 trans.

your dad is cool to have a car like this
+John McGinnis Yeah, he's had some pretty neat cars in his time.
Row row row !! Love it
superb..
That blow off whine reminds me of Brian O'Conner eclipse sound
Early 2000s BOVs will do that. lol It’s a GReddy Type whatever letter.
@@HiroshimaSpirit it's a greedy blow off valve?, do you have links to get one?

Please can you give me all the info on the engine/trans? I have a 92 and would love to do something like this

i have a 92 aswell
I have a 93 and literally wanna do this to it!!!
Great car,strong ass engine
I have one I’ll be selling soon here in Northern California. 1992 Mazda Protege LX.
Mine will be turbo this year
Two issues. First the homologation 323 was the GTX not the GTR. Secondly, that Mazdaspeed oil cap is an eBay fake with some sticker plastered on it.
The 323 GTX was a homologation car, yes, but that was the BF generation. This Protege is a BG, and the BG 323/Familia GTR was also used in WRC Groups A and N during its production run, requiring it’s own homologation.

❤️🔥
I miss this car. I accidently put diesel in it and broke it
what size rims were you running?
Not my car or wheels. Don’t know sizing other than 17” diameter, which is too big if you ask me.
Badass
+Cloverof4 I'm glad I don't have money to boost the 2, or I'd be in trouble. lol
That car behind you in the third gear pull just disappeared after boost came on
+iDrive4fun93 That was my 2 in the background with my dad at the wheel. Haha
DaedalusZero jealous of your car hahahaha.
Is this 4wd or 2wd?
2WD
bro did you got inernal mods or your car is stock?
It’s stock internals, but it’s not the stock engine.
Is this the same motor they put in the Ford Probe 16V but without a turbo?
The first gen Probe had the F2/F2T and the second gen 4cyl had the FS-DE. Totally different.
@@HiroshimaSpirit Thank you.
I wish my 93 dx was that fast but i plan on a gtr swap
+Steve Edmondson Go For it! The car’s a riot with a bunch of power. Haha
