After the death of Red Marauder, Rough Quest and Lord Gyllene in 2016 and Papillon in 2017, Bindaree may have been currently the oldest surviving GN winner.
Another horse notable, in my opinion, was Wicked Crack, the mare leading when she fell at the very first fence. She later became the dam, or the mother, of a much-loved steeplechaser active in 2010s called Cue Card.
Wow what a race that was I remembered it like it was yesterday Nigel twisten Davis ( trainer ) he nearly QUIT the game if it wasn't for binderee winning the grand national , & what about the jockey Jim culloty what a month he rode best mate to win the Cheltenham gold cup so what am achievement ⭐⭐⭐
I was on What's up Boys big time in this. Was counting my money when he was so close to the front so early. He might still have won if Johnson had kept him tight to the rail after the elbow, instead of taking him onto the chewed up ground and allowing Bindaree to go up there.
I'm minded of Garry savannah and Rought and Tumble who both go the rail and still got done. Bindaree would still have won this if What's Up Boys had the rail.
@@TheGiantKillers This was Richard Johnson's best chance of ever winning the GN. Like John Francome who I considered to be the best, never achieved it , he too JF was second twice on Rough and Tumble , but not in such a close finish. Now he has retired ( yesterday), That's one race not his CV.
I won on Bindaree and Papillon. Both green colours. I usually study for betting, but with the national it's more of a gut feeling. So I'm going for green colours again this year.
Trevor Hemmings had a long wait to win eventually the GN with Hedgehunter. The Last Fling having jumped so well seemed to crumple as he landed over Canal Turn. A bit later on can clearly see Manx Magic lying dead on the ground. It is the down side of racing, brave horses dying so people can win money by betting, I write this as a fan of NH , but I never get used to it. Whatever people say, the race is as hard as it alway was.
Think we lost 9 at the first there...more than in most Nationals post-2015! It's a toughy for me. I love horses, and I really don't want them to get hurt, so I do understand and appreciate the fences being made easier and less deadly...but damn it, it has ruined the greatest race on Earth! Too easy these days. And actually kind of dull!
When they jump the fences now, the fence just seems to explode forwards and leaves a heap of gorse all over the turf. Horses can breast through the fence usually without falling. Years ago, they had to actually jump and clear the fence or risk falling. Which is better?
David's Lad would have beat the front two had he not fallen three fences from home. Still cruising and would have had a better turn of foot from the last than the other two.

Cue card was a favourite of mine. Great knowledge

Loved the last fling

Can't beat red rum days
Lol Carryonharry thinking it's a 6f sprint like 'WTF is this massive green thing in my way?!'
I saw him at a local point to point a few years ago when he was 18 years old. He was tanking in front till his jockey fell off!
More horses fell at the first this year than some entire Grand Nationals of the past!
Shows it’s too easy now
Also my first ever forecast bet in any race
1st and 2nd had a really strong burst of speed.
What an incredible horse.
Sleep easy Bindaree, great horse. 🙏
Rip Manx magic
I wish you wouldn't list the winner in the title.

@@gary1961 They haven't used gorse in the national fence's for years
@@keithallen2979 Yes, should have said 'spruce.'
2003 was John hammer’s last grand national
My second winner
Some horrible falls and BDs in this. I always thought Fling should have been pulled up after the 3rd of his 5 mistakes.
Last Fling broken neck at Canal Turn
I rode in it once
Gary Clarke on what horse ?
I tore up my ticket on the last fling when he was mistaken for boe when he fell happy last fling didn't win
Shame he was killed though, loved that horse.
