If everyone did their own thing it would be chaos, while at the same time it would be beneficial if some of the players who halfways knows what they are doing were more autonomous... but that's a chance the FC might not want to take, assuming he is competent it's easier to avoid feeding being his slave, you have to assume people are dumb as bricks.
On the positive side, that was both amazingly lucky and amazingly skilfully played......on the down side, I can't imagine a moment that sublime happening again any time soon!

With a ship that expensive you dont' have some kind of shield/armor repper? Damn son..you got some balls. I'm all for hull tanking but..I'd think you'd have more "lifespan" if you had a repper of some kind. Ehh..do what you want. Still entertaining. Great vid.
Possibly more lifespan, but not necessarily - if you get neuted out/run out of charges/blobbed/whatever, you have a 'ceiling' of extra hp the reps can give you - and if your active reps are shut down, or you are taking damage much faster than the reps can rep, you won't realise all of those theoretical hp before you die. With a buffer tank the max hp is fixed (unless you have logi) so your enemy is forced to chew through the full hp no matter what, because it's on the ship ahead of time. The penalty for that is mobility (hull buffer), speed (armor buffer) or sig radius (shield buffer). Also in a cap-marginal situation, buffer leaves more cap for shooting things, so you won't be pushed into a tank-or-shoot choice. Finally, in a frenzied situation, buffer tank requires no module micro-managing during the fight so you can concentrate more on positioning/tackle/weapons/drones/heat.
So many tears that day! I would have love to see how the conversation went in that fleet.

1% structure, and yes, we went and "saved" it and then roamed further into Fountain and got into a fight in Delve against some Feroxes :D
