    More or less a saber grind version of Scandinavian knives. They are probably great for those who don't like scandi grinds
    You did a very good thorough review Triple E, as usual. As somebody who collects both folders and fixed blades, and does enjoy dabbling in bushcraft and wilderness camping, I appreciate the fact that you throw the occasional fixed blade in your content. You have some nice ones!

    Another great review video Triple E. I think I like the Puukko better than the Leuku. I like the size and blade shape better. Both great fixed blades though. I agree with what you said about the sheaths. Bark River's sheaths are much better/nicer.

    I subbed for 2 reasons - i liked your content and your review on these knives plus after watching a number of other reviews none but you recognised the grind as a saber not a skandi -- Cheers

    Wish the leuku keeps more of the blade geometry of the pukko. Great strait forward knives. Like the handles for outdoor use which will also possibly be wet. Agreed about the guard, not necessary. Also never had problems with heat treat on blades from Benchmade. But I have had omega springs break so things happen when producing so much. As far as leather sewing goes that’s not terrible. Not the easiest. But there is for sure better quality in other companies. Just takes time and attention to detail. For all Benchmade does their leather sewing seems to be sub par for them and the industry. Believe the pocket slips have the same sloppiness. Scandi seems silly to me as you have to grind most of the blade to sharpen the knife. Like this shape(saber?) as it has good transition but easier to sharpen. Get yourself a draw knife it will help the carving a lot on the swords and similar items. Nice review as always!!

      Thanks! You should check out the terrible sewing job Benchmade did on the slip for my Tengu. I did a video about it. Still, they’re a big company and I’m sure if I complained about it they would have made it right. They have always been great to work with as a company.

    I love the blade and the grip is solid though a bit too thin and can cause hand fatigue when I was bushcrafting with it.

      I found if I gripped it too hard the diamond pattern would imprint on my hand.

    I didn’t catch the name of the last fixed blade that you used for size comparison. Nice review on fixed blades. Very informative too. I guess I do OTF’s know the difference between a V edge and a Covex edge.

    How is the benchmade 3v compared to bark river 3v?

    • @TripleEEDC
      @TripleEEDC  3 года назад +1

      The 3V on these are better than the 3V on the original bailout. They held up very well. I didn’t own them long enough or use them hard enough to compare with my Bark River knives but I have not reason to think the heat treat is anything other than excellent.

      Bark River burns their blades while they creating the full convex bevels. Their edges come out super thin, which means great gutting and slicing, but low edge stability, which can easily lead to microchips on the edge. Benchmade Puuko, is the exacto opposite. No burned steel, thick and very stable edge. So, for light to medium use: Bark River, for hard use: Benchmade. PS: All knives have to be sharpened and in most cases rerpofiled, to correct issues, and improve their performance.Actually, we have to reprofile them, to work as they should.

  • @Wildwestwrangler
    @Wildwestwrangler 3 года назад +1

    The gunny scandi is not bigger than the puuko and most of what you said was the same size as the puuko was actually a bit smaller than the puuko. And that Medford while beefier was not the same size as the leuku.

    • @TripleEEDC
      @TripleEEDC  3 года назад +1

      It may have been the camera angle. If you look up the sizes of the knives on the specs of retailers, you will see that what I said is correct. It is confusing as the camera can be deceptive since the Puukko is closer to the camera.

      @@TripleEEDC is the Tops BOB Hunter better?

    • @TripleEEDC
      @TripleEEDC  3 года назад +1

      I have never used the Hunter version before but the regular BOB is an excellent bushcraft knife. If you were asking me whether to get the BOB or the leuku it would depend on what you needed. If you wanted easy field sharpening and better feather sticking I’d go with the BOB. If you wanted a tough as nails knife for batoning and general bushcraft, the leuku is great. It’s probably the best deal for 3V on the market.

    • @whengrapespop5728
      @whengrapespop5728 Год назад +1

      Traditional Leuko knives are generally for chopping and rough processing, but I would imagine this size Leuko combined with the lightweight 3V steel doesn’t really do those tasks too well. I think they went for this design simply to attract people who just want a bigger knife.

  • @shamitoson
    @shamitoson 11 месяцев назад +1

    Wish they had a true scandi grind. It’s like the went for the look, but not the true essence of the classic designs. Seems pretty lazy.

      I don’t do measurements on my channel. It’s a waste of time when the factory and retailers all list them and are correct on close to 99% of them. I am trying to talk about aspects others don’t talk about to offer something different.
