I (finally) moved away from home and spent the early "aughts" in and around Montreal. Being a montreal band, Stars were part of the soundtrack of my life at that time, along with Toronto's Metric and New York's Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Strokes. This brings back some awesome memories. If you've never spent any time in Montreal, go!
I cannot possibly convey how much I adore "Your Ex-Lover is Dead" Its funny, the same person whom I shared a connection over this song with is the same person I came into contact with in a scenario not far off from the one described in the song. I don't think I'll ever not think of her. I hope you're doing well Jordyn.
I think this song really captures the force of falling off love, which I believe is much stronger and much more remembered with some longing than falling in love (now thinking about it again more than 15 years later)
It's difficult keeping up with the ever expanding universe of Canadian indie music. CBC radio helps a lot. So does NPR. Heard Torquille today on Canada's national airwaves and now have had the pleasure of meeting his mighty little band here on American radio. Thank you NPR for putting out there some of our fine artists like Stars and Patrick Watson.
hello npr, thank you for the stream - stars from montreal and they went west on our side to sing three songs. wish to see them and meet them one day in montreal. elle for duets best
A miraculous melding of voices.....delicate and forceful, simultaneously somehow. I saw them once completely randomly at the San Diego House Of Blues in 2005 or something.
Fer realz, the music scene in Canada is great. I would have no idea if it was not for NPR and CBC. It all started for me years ago with Christine Fellows. I never looked back!
Fer realz, Canada is reppin on the music scene, Good stuff that w/o NPR/CBC I would know nothing about. It all started for me with Christine Fellows years ago.
@Camilla45242 You know they probably had a long drive or something. It's not easy being a touring musician. Also. WHo Cares how they look? Having met them I was really impressed with how cool they were to their fans.
Just between you, me and YT, my account is rather new. Your reponse is only the second one I've received. Being of the generation unused to cyperspace relationships, I didn't reply- albeit Les Trois Accords one obliges me to eventually get back in imperfect French. But since you are American, i did not want to be remiss. You are to be thanked for your NPR/CBC life outside the box and under the Stars. (Fer realz...which offical language is that?)
13 years ago? Invite Stars back!
I saw these guys open for Death Cab in 2005... That night was fucking magical. I had never heard of Stars and they completely blew me away!
was it at the soma in san diego? if so i was there too....they blew my mind that night.
I'm so jealous, wish I could see them and DCFC on the same night.
Same. Saw them at the Warfield in SF in 2005 opening for DCFC as well. Was not expecting them, left loving them. Commenting now 13 years later.
I think "Your Ex-Lover is Dead" might be the best song ever.
Your Ex Lover is Dead is almost too good of a song and I'm so happy they played that one. Thanks NPR!
Possible my all time fav band. I've watched many Tiny desks and never knew this was here. Thank you Stars and Tiny Desk for this concert LOVE IT!
Their voice makes them 20 years younger than they are, amazing.
Great harmony, great harmonies. Pure genius. Love them.
Amy Millan's voice is love.
Invite them back, please!
Their voices are so amazing without any special sound effects.

The stars are a consistently an awesome band. Why are they not bigger?
01:01 The book just above Amy's head is titled "Baby". That's a cute coincidence!
Amazing =)
Yessss
In a totally non creepy way.
I want to bake you guys cookies and build you a nice cabin in the forest behind my house!
@@ceesan5605 Looking back at this 9 years later, this was a little creepy.

Who downvotes these guys?
Who’s here from their IG story?
2011 was 7 years ago. wtf
Explain? I just dont know what that means, thanks.
I love the stars but really felt this didn't measure up to their talent. Guess everyone has an off day.
Good music... for a couple middle-aged creeps.
