Thanks for the video, its always interesting to know how we Estonians are seen. About shirtless men - I'd say it's kind of frowned upon here too, unless it's around a beach area or men who are doing physical work and simply would take their shirt off because it's too hot. If I saw a shirtless man just walking around where I live - that is, not near a beach :) - , my first thought would be he's a drunkard. About the lack of convoys - this is a second video I've seen where Africans notice how little distance there is between our high-ups and commoners. I think it's not just because of relative safety; I think it's partly us being quite a small country, and partly us all being great-grandchildren or grandchildren of peasants. We all have ancestors who used to be peasants or working class, or lower middle class at best. The upper class was German speaking; when Estonia became independent in 1918, they got first their privileges taken from them, and they became just regular citizens like anybody else, and during the WWII they moved to Germany. Basically, it's a small society consisting of people who had pretty similar social standing just a few generations ago; everyone here knows someone who knows someone who happens to personally know the president, or the prime minister or similar, they cannot be seen as completely removed from everyday life. And for the same reason, it wouldn't seem to be too far fetched for most people to try their luck in politics, if they're motivated enough. Same goes for culture celebrities, like singers or actors. Anyone would know someone who went to the same school with them or is friends with their sister or something.
Ive been in Estonia for a week already... i am so overwhelmed. Trying to take it one day at a time. it also doesn't help that Ive been sick from the time i got here.
I'm sorry to hear this, do get well soon. It might just be the change of environment. It is best to take one day at a time. I hope everything works out great for you.
Estonian culture is not influenced by Finns... wtf.. we used to be one tribe , finns are descendants of estonians, not the other way around... and not "slight" influence, Germans ruled over estonia for 700 years, our dna is now 49% germanic , estonian words are 30% low german origin
Finns are not descendants of Estonians, they are two descendant branches of the same ancient tribe. Some stayed on this side of the gulf, while others took a little more eastern path to go further north. When people (who we now know as Finns) reach what is modern Southern Finland, they were met by Sami people, who are an even older branch of the same tree. Finns gradually pushed the Sami further north.
@@henrikmanitski1061 My only thought is, there should be Fenno Empire :D Look at the map... half the Russia-West territory is filled with Finno-Ugric tribes rofl. There's one tribe wich is not mentioned in studies wich is weird... "lost tribe" , cant remember the name, some finnish made video about it... that it's odd that, they don't talk about that tribe... since the tribe has very estonian/finnish surnames, all of them, to this day... and their establishment, towns etc sound tthe same... they call the place Märjamaa or marjamaa (Maarjamaa , Land of the mary...) Even their folk cloths look the same as Estonian/Finnish.. Ah yteah.. the tribe name is Muroma (now i remember...)
