- Walk the Hospitales route with us from Samblismo to Berducedo. Then, enjoy the magic of crossing the hydro dam before ascending to Grandas de Salime.
We started the Camino Primitivo (Camino de Santiago) on May 8th, 2023. We made great time, walking from Oviedo to Santiago in 11 days.
This is our first time walking the Camino Primitivo. We hiked the Camino de Invierno in Winter 2023, the Camino del Norte in Summer 2019, and the Camino Frances in Fall 2017. We packed ultralight bags for all of our journeys.

Found this video while researching the Primitivo. Just wanted to say how delightful it was to watch you both taking the weather in stride. I'm an American planing my second Francés next April, with a slight detour: from Leon I'll bus to Oveido, visit distant cousins I've never met, and, well lookie there it's the Camino Primitivo. Don't mind if I do. I'll rejoin hopefully with my Camino Frances friends (whom I've yet to friend) by taxi'ing to O Cebreiro after day 6 on the Primitivo. I just want to walk through the Asturias part for once, my family's origin.
Your video pushed me over the fence on taking this detour. Thanks!
Thanks so much! It sounds like you're going to have a great Camino. Asturias is a beautiful and magical place. Buen Camino!
Me encantan vuestros vídeos pero lo que más me gusta es vuestra maravillosa actitud ante la vida. Buen Camino!
Muchísimas gracias! Nos encanta ver partes tan bonitas de España y hablar con gente tan estupenda.
Great how you kept your spirit up despite the weather 👏
Thank you! We try to laugh at the rain. :)
OOHH is crazy mimo 😮😮😮
😝
In Spain there is a saying about the unusual early warm spring that goes “cuando en marzo mayea, en mayo marcea”, which means when in March it feels like May, in May it feels like March. So guess you caught one of these March-like-May months 😉 Nice video!
Oh wow! That’s exactly what happened! Thanks for sharing that with us.
Although I would not like at all for my land to become a new Marbella (which is beautiful), I really like that people from other countries, never foreigners, get to know these places that are so different from the most well-known and popular Spain.
We love northern Spain.
the way is very strong
It is!
Hola, ustedes vieron algún perregrino (dog pilgrim) en el primitivo?
No vimos ningún peregrino con perros cuando caminábamos.
Hi,
Loved the video. Was hoping to do the Camino in June next year as a 50th birthday challenge.
I am scared of heights but would like to do this route. Do the trails to close to the edge of the mountains on this hospitales segment?
Thanks in advance.
Scott
Hi Scott, Thanks for watching! It's a beautiful route where most of the trails are not close to the edge. There are a few sections where the trail is a bit narrow and on a steep hill. (mainly the section after the Hospitales route, from Puerto del Palo to Montefurado). There is a road there, if you are super nervous, you can arrange for a taxi to skip that chunk.
Thanks for the reply.
If it is a steep hill, and not a vertical drop I should be ok..
@@WaltonsThe You'll be good. It's not a vertical drop. :)
Great videos!! How do you think Primitivo would be September/October?
Thanks so much! I'm sure the Primitivo is great in September and gets rainier in October. As long as you pack appropriately, you'll be good. Buen Camino.
from Madrid then what. help me where to go...
From Madrid, you need to get to Oviedo to start the Camino Primitivo. You can fly to Asturias airport, take a train (RENFE), or a bus (ALSA) to Oviedo.
Los creditos... 🤣
🤣🤣 Glad you liked them.

I say we ditch the left hand at 0:14 , total whiner... Also why does some of the landscape remind me of Upstate New York? I mean except for all the smoke from the Canadian fires... (no you're not missing anything back home).
Hahahaha. The left hand definitely perked up when the sun came out.
It’s a bit like upstate NY. I think all the greenery shares some similarities (and the rain)
What do you think of doing this Camino starting the 3rd week of September? I’m planning that for 2024 and it’ll be my first Camino ever. 🥹🙏🏼
Hiking the Primitivo in late September would be…interesting. The weather can do all kinds of things at that time of year, so you’ll definitely want to pack for cold and wet. It’ll also be slowing down (the busy season is summer/early fall). We met a few first timers on the Primitivo and they loved it. Really cool idea for your first Camino. Pack the right gear and you’ll love it!
