I've always tried to insert positivity into my songs wherever I can, to inspire other people who go through stuff. I mean the stuff they talked about in tabloids and the things that were so overly exaggerated, that's one aspect. I also went through a lot of personal stuff, a lot of family stuff this year. Losing a parent is an intense thing for anybody. It's brought me to another place. People are going to read into it as, 'This is Mariah and her struggle'. But the way I try to word it is, 'It's OK once you say I can make it through the rain.' Not just me going, 'I can make it through the rain,' it's me telling people that if you believe you can get through whatever you're going through, you can get to the other side.

This song is about her story of being biracial but it's applicable to so many things that she was going through at the time. Leaving her ex CEO husband who was so mad that she wanted to leave that he tried to sabotage her career. Her family had it out for her. Her movie at the time bombed but that's a whole other story. Her new record label at Virgin Records dropped her after making $100 million record deal with her at the time. She was working non stop barely sleeping. She was going through it. Her father also passed away just before this performance so yeah it was rough for her. But she still came and delivered a showstopping performance. It just goes to show her resilience in the face of adversity. Anyone else would have probably given up at that point at let their career fumble but its Mariah. Of course that can't happen. Also what you were talking about as far a her and her background singers yes her background singers in extremely in tune with her. Their harmonies and stacks are pin point. Mariah is a perfectionist.

I think lambs will definitely agree with you on the fact that Mariah ALWAYS had super talented background singers because they do sing to uplift her. They usually sing background vocals and harmonies and little runs here and there but they replace Mariah herself 😅😅😅
Mariah would layer 10 vocal tracks in the recording studio but obviously she would need 10 gifted singers to sing her parts and provide the safe and stable musical environment for her to land and just do her thing.
