An awesome new track and I really like the lyrical MV too - certainly don't need any captions. You're absolutely right, the band demonstrates how musically versatile and innovative they are with the first 2 tracks of the new EP, but at the same time retaining their core sound.
Simply blend of thrash & heavy metal. Like usual, Lovebites will add various genres and format. I've got sense that the other three songs will be more awesome (i hope). Great 👍🤘🔥
I wasn't a big fan of "Unchained", hoping that the whole EP won't follow that route. But hey, this one is awesome, I absolutely like it. Fast, heavy, catchy! 🤘🏻🙂
Hard to believe this is a five minute song, I thought it was much shorter than that. LOVEBITES is never boring, always rocking, another reason I love them so much! 🤘🐺🤘
I remembered Iron Maiden (THE•TLOOPER). Of course, you can't compare these two songs. However, LOVEBITES (SOUL•DEFENDER) was not inferior to THE•TLOOPER. Because this song "SOUL•DEFENDER" is very powerful. There was a melody of LOVEBITES there. The English subtitles are also very cool, and the video composition is also very innovative. From now on, LOVEBITES has begun to expand into the world.🤘😎
You’re saying Soul Defender is much more accessible, but at the same time that it is old Lovebites. That’s kind of my issue with it. I think Lovebites is still being Lovebites, but with a more commercial or accessible approach, like with Unchained as well. I would’ve liked them to actually try something different here. Anyway, I think the giant words directly on the screen for Soul Defender, right as Asami is saying them too, might help eliminate any barriers she has in reaching a wider audience (for a music video anyway, as they can’t rely on everyone using CC), while reaching a wider audience seems like the goal of the new EP (so far, anyway). Why I think this part works: I think when someone is singing in the same language, there comes a certain expectation people have to understand what is being said (or they can be more critical of it), while understanding it helps people get emotionally into the song. Also many reactors weren’t aware that Lovebites sings in English. Fami is also less of a focus in their two newest music videos (Unchained and Soul Defender) than she was in their two older music videos before them (Judgement Day and Stand and Deliver), which is the opposite of what many fans were expecting; however, maybe another song on the new EP will give her more of a spotlight? I think Lovebites members sharing the spotlight actually makes a lot of sense, as fans have different favorites, even instrumentally speaking. Or rather, just for the sake of variety itself seems reasonable too.
I think that's a fair point. Ultimately if you go experimental you will lose some of your growth potential, and if you go accessible you will lose some of your experimental opportunities. Therefore, I guess I just feel glad that the move seems deliberate, and well thought out. The music seems to have a purpose and be achieving it, but not dispensing with what makes Lovebites the band they are. It certainly is an interesting path to watch though. I must admit, I never understood the linguistic concerns so much as I don't focus on lyrics often, but I know that is a deal for many folks, so I am interested to see how feedback goes with that. Thank you though, interesting points!
"Fami is also less of a focus in their two newest music videos..." Yes, if you don't listen to her bass lines 🙂 Fami plays some beautifully innovative lines on both, but especially on "Unchained", but she also realizes that Lovebites is a guitar-driven band, and overly lively or busy bass lines, regardless of how well they're constructed, will simply be a detraction. I'm sure she's tried injecting a few of her complex speed-tapping runs during rehearsal. and I would imagine she and the band ultimately said, "Nope, that isn't going to work." This band is pregnant with talent, and that can be a tricky element to control. Fami is obviously a musical savant, so she plays whatever the song needs and probably enjoys every moment of it. TRUE musicians don't get bogged down with worrying about what their fans want to hear as it relates to what or how they play. If a given song makes them feel good and let's them escape from 'life' for five or six minutes, then it's all good.....of course this could all change because bands are very VERY lightly glued together. This band, though, seems to have a musical personality that is generally ego-less. Just as Nature abhors a vacuum, Lovebites seemingly abhors musical egos.
You're right about the commercial sound. They're coming to America, and I assume they want to make the money they deserve for their talent and all the rehearsal time. Radio. Every city seems to have one station that plays anything that's good. They need non-RUclips exposure and more commercial-sounding songs which is tricky with metal. If only there were were still late night shows like Letterman on Conan---they had bands on all the time. Can you imagine?
@@HowardGraves-e4k “Yes, if you don't listen to her bass lines” Actually, I specifically used the word “focus” here. As in, how Fami is or isn’t being spotlighted. Check my post again. “she also realizes” You have to speak for yourself, not for what you imagine she thinks. “busy bass lines, regardless of how well they're constructed, will simply be a detraction.” Because you’re framing it from “guitar-driven” (your own words), seemingly as in stepping on everything else, as your own foundation or requirement for Lovebites (not my requirement), then you’re arguing from your own position. You’re actually arguing with yourself. Do you have this requirement for every song, or are they allowed to experiment a bit? “I'm sure she's tried injecting a few of her complex speed-tapping runs during rehearsal. and I would imagine she and the band ultimately said, Nope, that isn't going to work." You need to stop doing that. You have to speak from your own perspective. Not “imagining” things to support your position. You’re also framing everything from your own created rules; you’re trying to fit bass into a song you have pre-generated in your head (a top-down design, rather than bottom-up). “TRUE musicians don't get bogged down with worrying about what their fans want to hear” What is a true musician? “You're right about the commercial sound.” I guess we agree on something.
Yeah, this one seems a bit, I dunno...rote to me. Like Asami and Mao decided "let's write a by-the-numbers Lovebites thrash song." Everything in the song, from the basic arrangement to the solos, etc., is exactly what you expect, exactly where you expect it to be. It's a darn good formula...but it's a formula, and this song just doesn't have the impact of, say, Judgement Day. Or, to cite another one of the "big guns" in female J-Metal, Nemophila's innovative, brilliant "G.O.D." I do love the visual production values in this MV...it looks amazing. I also love the artistic, easily-readable captioning. Asami's made some big strides in her English enunciation, but those are still a big help. A bit of a mixed blessing, as the lyrics are a bit banal, but still an overall positive.

The best metal band ever!
Defeat you cold-blooded monster.....wow..........GLORIOUS. May this metal ride never end!

You were right this got released prior to the EP II release date. I wonder if these first 2 songs will be the only ones with music videos?
@@metalmark1214 There're only 5 songs on the EP. So I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if there'll be another MV. I hope I'm wrong !
Awesome band 😮😮
Baka Breakdown, great video keep up the amazing work
Thank you so much! :)
I like they go for something different like Unchained, whatever they want to play, it always has that Lovebites feel and quality! 🤘🔥
