I actually purchased a couple of these about a month ago. One was a CB-radio looking thing like the Panasonic you had, the other was a chunky Phillips. Both of them were originally meant to be used for reporting/journalism. They work great for giving some extra character to guitar and even vocal recordings. Haven't tried them with drums... yet.
The fact that u have a tape recorder and mic from your dad when he was in Vietnam and it’s still intact and being used🤯 only Billy Hume the wizard and it doesn’t surprise me! Great video mane!
This is REALLY great content. Love the story telling. Loved this piece. My dad used to record on a similar recorder to send tapes back to Haiti. Your mic collection is a major reminder to collect gear, don’t sell the good stuff and take good care of it. Salute! 🙌🏾
Awesome! I've got a couple of those little mics as well. I never thought to actually use them. While watching this I reached for my Panasonic and recorded an acoustic guitar through it. Such a cool sound! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! I've listened to a couple and they are interesting, hilarious and tear jerkers. The ones my mom sent back to my dad had me laughing. I'll probably put some of them up here.
I'm actually going to do a documentary thing about all this. It'll take a while but in the meantime I might put up some short snippets on my Instagram channel. Just search for Billy Hume.
Aaaaaaaaand that's why you're The Wizard. I recall doing a guitar track with a broken cable and you tapped on it and turned the entire thing into a tremolo. What were the odds....instead of throwing the cable out, we made something unique outta it. Awesome video.
Try the old Czechoslovak Comunistic TESLA AMM 100 It has an disgusting thick aluminum diaphragm, and the pickup is probably pendulum from electric clock?. Perfect decoherence. A generator of random resonances. Surprisingly, it didn't significantly affect the spoken word, so it has some "clarity" factor.

You should give them a shot on drums. Might be good for loops and also grungy room mics.

Oh... you know.... you've seen my house and all the stuff I collect. I now have a lion statue in the back yard.
I love this! I have a pair 1970's Ampex 244 microphones that I cant wait to try this with! So glad I found your channel!

Thanks! Yes, never sell any gear even if you think it sucks because someday it might be cool again or just the tool you need.
