@WIICknxnes Fr, just listened to this album for the first time (because I was like 9 when this came out lol) and when u started playing, I was balling my eyes out by the 3rd verse. I've never had a piece of music cut so deep when talking about personal issues. It seriously made me reflect on where I'm at rn and all the mistakes I've made/relationships I ruined because of my selfishness and depression. This is easily in my top 10 just off 2 listens so far.

The blacker the berry might be the hardest he’s ever gone and there’s no hidden messaging with it what he’s saying slaps you right in the face and that’s why he rapped it so aggressively. Should be mentioned when talking about his greatest songs ever.
I was shocked upon my first listen, this was the first hip-hop album that I fully listened to and I was in awe when it finished and its only gotten better with more listens, I was then surprised that the rest of Kendrick's albums are just as good, easily my favourite rapper.
@@RockLee-q1guntil this came out I didn’t think modern rap had any redeeming qualities, so while not my first whole rap album, it’s the first whole rap album made after 2005 that I listened to and made me expand my rap horizons into the modern day, now I can bump young thug and see the vision.
I grew up with jazz and funk because of my dad while my mom taught me about literally every other genre. I got so lucky with my music taste. I only get compliments on my playlists. I’m HUGE on instruments and instrumentals because of my dad. One of my favorite musicians as a child is a bassist called Marcus Miller.
for free is too underrated, it's a good show of technical ability from kendrick and works incredibly well in the sequencing of the album. fact that it's the worst song on the album is a testament to how great this project is
From what I understand, momma is about him going back to the motherland which is why he talks about going back home. His trip to South Africa opened his eyes in the sense that he felt the need to go back to his own home (Compton) to help his people as a result of him going to the motherland.
Not entirely sure if anyone has mentioned this, but U is actually from Kendrick's own perspective; It is truly a harrowing masterpiece given that context. I and U are siblings of retrospection, showing the duality of Kendrick's ego and showcasing his serious battle with his own mental health. great reaction man, keep grinding.
Just finished watching the Section .80 reaction earlier today, this is great timing! I haven't watched this one yet but I'm convinced you're gonna love it haha
I’m glad I found a new small channel. I’m also getting into Kendrick and everything so I enjoy seeing other peoples reactions. I can’t wait to see your channel pop off.
on "u" kendrick is speaking from his own perspective about himself. same with "i," but the contrasting mindsets of the two songs are why he named those tracks that
The song U is a self reflection of Kendrick looking in a mirror. And from what I have heard but I’m not sure Wesley’s Theory is the music industry talking to young black artists
If you want to delve more into the underground, huge recommendations on Honor Killed The Samurai by Ka, especially since you have the lyrics pulled up, Ka's lyricism is so damn dense and jampacked that you will most of it even with lyrics pulled up sometimes. Clearly an underground classic that a lot of mainstream fans have missed
How much a dollar cost is my favorite song of all time. It never loses its power and I get chills every single time. I’m so happy you felt the same way. what a powerful song.
A Scripture to "HOW MUCH A DOLLAR COST." Proverbs 19:17 “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.” God sees things way different than any of us.
Incredible reaction man you pick up perfectly on every complex layer so thoughtfully. Never stop doing this I can’t wait to see what else you react to. Btw, TPAB was just labeled as the highest rated album of all time, and you probably know why. An absolute masterpiece in every sense of the word.
Thank you so much! I’m doing my to keep an open mind with every concept these artists go over. I’m having fun with these so I’ll definitely keep going.
Thanks for this video. If anyone has other Kendrick tracks they like, please lmk, I'm just now starting to discover his music. It's a lot to absorb all at once...
I'd suggest finding moments to listen to the albums as a whole. Basically every album starting from Section 80 has a narrative structure to it, and while everyone will have their favs and their tracks that aren't for them, they all serve a purpose in the context of the albums in their entirety.
21:34 my slow ass is just now realize he is talking to himself in a mirror in U. He telling himself “ loving you is complicated “ or loving himself is complicated . And then later he finds that love in himself
It’s a Christian thing According to Joshua 6:1-27, the walls of Jericho fell after the Israelites marched around the city walls once a day for six days, seven times on the seventh day, with the priests blowing their horns daily and the people shouting on the last day
Keep doing your thing man. One piece of feedback-- your mic is kinda hot as I'm listening in my headphones. I would throw on a de-esser or EQ your voice a bit, or try a different mic maybe. Get those harsh high frequencies outta there. I really like that you've go the lyrics visible, and the visual layout of the entire screen is great.
This is actually the best feedback I’ve heard so far regarding my voice/mic. I’ll try to tweak the frequencies and I have some filters set up on my recording software, so I’ll definitely work on that💪🏾
Also forgot to mention that it's supposed to be an actual experience he had when he was in a hotel when his depression hit him the hardest. It was the outcome of success, Survivor's Guilt, and being seen as a "savior" by everyone.
Im a bit late but since no one else has done it I wanted to explain the second part of these walls: In Gkmc Dave and his brother die and the guy who shot Dave is serving life. So the part is basically a distrack to him saying that Kendrick is fcking his girl while he’s in prison.

48:20 although I agree with the general idea of "Black on Black" crime being stupid you are losing A TON of context. The phrase is used to make it seem like it just Black people, but racial crime against one another is high in ALL populations. It is not black specific. And the reason is because those of similar races live near one another. So white on white crime is also high. Don't let the narrative fool you in that regard.
Guys, I made a mistake thinking GKMC came out after TPAB. Thank you to those that let me know!
U is obviously very sad on the surface but once you realize the whole time he’s talking to himself, it’s on another level
noticed the first time listening when he repeatedly said “loving you is complicated “ and i really related to the song when i realized that

a year late but i recommend untitled 5 and untitled 8, fear, and his feature on mac millers god is fair sexy nasty
I recommend pulling up the Genius lyrics as you listen along for real-time lyric context
Also the majority of Kendrick’s work is presented from a first-person/personal point of view.
I agree 100%. It'll help me at least understand the references these artists make
Listen to Be by Common if you haven’t already heard it!
I think "u" is Kendrick's own conscience and regret, that's his own thoughts towards himself, self-loathing
I love your reaction to this. Please keep making videos!
For free? Interlude was made so sound nice and amazing like lucifer (lucy) but once you pay attention to lyrics it's a deeper meaning
You're correct, but you're talking about For Sale? Not For Free.

This lost to taylor swift. She made a good album but I feel like longevity for albums should determine a certain superiority
Fr, in 100 years Taylor’s Album will be irrelevant. Graffiti to Kendrick’s Novel.
I think the ‘knock these walls down, that’s my religion’ is a reference to the walls of Jericho

In u, whenever he mentions "you" he's referring to himself. So the song is in the pov of his inner demons
Also forgot to mention that it's supposed to be an actual experience he had when he was in a hotel when his depression hit him the hardest. It was the outcome of success, Survivor's Guilt, and being seen as a "savior" by everyone.
The Spanish part is supposed to be a maid that was knocking on the hotel room door while he was having this episode of depression.
This album transcends music, it's an experience
