If you live near the Broward county area and you're looking for something cool to get into this weekend, make your way down to Deerfield Beach this Saturday June 18th 2022. Its time for the annual Deerfield Beach Underwater Pier Cleanup!
It’s a huge opportunity to not only go on a beautiful dive but to also do your part to protect our ocean and marine life from the harmful effects of pollution.
The 976-foot Deerfield Beach International Fishing Pier normally open from 6AM to 11PM daily will be closed to fishermen during this event.
In between the columns of the pier are abundant with life! You are likely to see large schools of lookdown, spadefish, barracuda, snook and so much more. There's sure to be tons of lead weights from broken fishing line along with spools of fishing line to be cut. I've even managed to leave a few coins richer! You never know what could be around the next column!
And guess what you don't have to be a diver to participate in this event! Scuba divers, free divers and snorkelers are welcome. The depth under the pier ranges from about 10-25 feet depending on the tide.
If being fully submerged isn't your cup of tea, come by anyway. There is plenty of cleaning up done above water as well! Hope to see you there!
