Just before christmas last year I managed to find a fully working PVM-1953MD locally here in Croatia for about $70. I got it from a guy running a Veterinarian clinic. He did have some more monitors previously but sadly got rid of them before I could contact him. But still, what an amazing find.
@@RetroTechUSA I've been enjoying it for the past few weeks, and it's currently my favorite monitor i own. Unlike my JVCs, the picture is perfectly steady, and even though it doesn't support 480p, 480i content looks AMAZING. The only nitpick i have is that it has some weird convergence irregularities in the sides of the picture, and some are worse than others. Maybe it needs convergence strip reseating, or more of them added.
Get some thick plastic spudgers, they're great for opening plastic casings without doing too much, if any, damage. I use them for tablet and phone repair all the time and they're fantastic. Hot air rework and soldering stations are no joke, stay safe.
Definitely interested in seeing LCD PVM content too. Would be interesting to see just how good the image quality on this display is (If age hasn’t degraded it). Congrats on the 3D printer!

I have a small print farm with several 3D printers. Replacement screw bosses are good if you can print ABS. Replacement flip covers/doors are definitely something you can print.
@@RetroTechUSA It can do ABS but it has a tendency to curl, deform, or come off the bed in the middle of printing if you don’t rig up some kind of enclosure. ABS also has a smell so the enclosure helps with that too. You can rig one up by putting under a table and taping up some trash bags. ABS has fallen out of favor with most makers but it has a few advantages, like the ability to do “vapor smoothening” with acetone. You can get “ABS Cement” from the plumbing section of most hardware stores which is basically ABS dissolved in a solvent. The solvent will merge your ABS prints to the ABS cases and housings if you print screw bosses and such, with the excess ABS adding more strength and rigidity than there ever was. It may look ugly inside but that’s not what counts. ;) Have fun with that Ender 3 V2! I have two original Ender 3 printers and I love them. I also have a monster Creality CR-10 and Sovol 3D as well as a dual-extruder Flashforge Dreamer that I found complete in the original box at a thrift store. Score!
Thanks for the video, I have the same pvm. This will help me if caps need replaced. How often should you replace caps? Monitor works fine, but rather use a CRT tv for my MiSTer.
Definitely prefer the crt stuff, but this was still interesting. I have a Vizio 4k television I am waiting on parts for, but I suspect the supply chain stuff will have it sitting in my storage unit for a while lol
I have a question dude I recently picked up a Sony Trinitron I plugged my ps1 in and noticed the picture is zoomed a little like it’s not where it should be and can’t figure out how to change the aspect ratio and have no remote
This is likely just overscan which is completely normal on crts, you can change this by going into the service menu and adjusting horizontal and vertical size. And if you need to, changing horizontal and vertical position so that the image is centered 👍
One day crts well be extinct and flat panels will be the regular things to repair. I've fixed countless amounts of flat panel pc monitors and also consumer flat panels.
CRT or not, this is always nice to see some cool tech getting repaired !
Thank you. I appreciate it.
Yea I personally wouldn't care for it to use but pro gear is still neat!

Cool piece of tech! I’d be curious to see you throw a time sleuth on it to test the input lag across the supported resolutions when you get it working
Thanks and that will be coming too!
Oh wow! This will be a fun series to see from you Steve. 8^)
Anthony..
Oh yeah, Part 2 is going to be a good one. Thanks Anthony!
Awesome job done pal. Really enjoyed it to watch!
Thank you

Thanks Lu! Congrats on joining the RetroRGB Team! Love hearing your Mister news and updates
Brutus is the real CRT connoisseur here.
i have a LMD 2110w
and i love it
Good stuff. Hope you can get this old girl working
Thanks, the next installment will be a fun one.

480p LCDs need more love.
Could you do a video on OLED screens and what you think of them?
My buddy Podcast partner Louis is working on that video currently. He was able to rent one!
@@RetroTechUSA great. Don't forget to mention it when its ready. Thanks.

Thanks, I'm learning a lot. The printer says it can do ABS. I'm excited to keep working at it.

What about printing battery covers for the more common remote controls . Or for that matter , printing new outer casings for remotes ?
Man, I've seen an OLED PVM on facebook for $1500...Was slightly tempted
I'd maybe wait a bit on that. I'm afraid there may be lag in those, but I'm not completely certain. My buddy Louis is working on a video covering one.
@@RetroTechUSA interested in watching the video when it drops
Also, I heard some of the early ones don't have a great lifespan.

I liked the video sir 💕
Thank you
You should try a CRT projector
About 3d, most Commodore CRT monitors have their front door missing or with broken hinges. I see an application there. 😁
Thanks, yeah I do see that as being a good use.
Do these lcds hold any charge like regular crts ?
We should 3D a flux capacitor and go back to the future. 🚀
Now that would be something.
Wonder what these things could be used for.
Not great for retro gaming right?
Ha, yeah I don't think it's going to be the best for that. The really interesting thing about it is it are the inputs.
Video walls, of course. ;)
😍
New cap kit?

@@MrNapkino I was able to finally get into the menu and change it that’s exactly what it was thanks for the feedback
@@TysonD916 no problem! Glad I could help.
Those little clips that hold wires inside of the CRT
i also have a pvm TRIMASTER lcd thats a 30 inch.
Part 2 coming next week.
Subtle Wario cosplay...
This is illegal, it's not a CRT!
In my experience these older LCD screens can be a good option for retro gaming as well.
Must be a little weird working on a TV that doesn't weigh anything after all those CRTs 😁
No glass screen.
unsubbed
😭
Not as deep & bulky as PVM CRTs.
I wonder why...
Print a stand for that thing!
Not a Trinitron; it’s a BRAVIA.
boy do i hate clips.
Yes, They are really bad once this plastic starts to age and get brittle.
Get some more LCDs.
Thanks, part two will be coming in maybe 6 days.
