    I made this sstc working on 24V. I have same big sparks as in the video. My advices? Directly after building it, I had mini sparks.. maybe 1cm.. If the tesla makes sounds, but it doesn't give any sparks, try to put primary upside down and check in what position on seconary gives the best result. Most important thing is to use thick wire in toroidal transformer, which is used as feedback and in primary.. and you have to use thick wire in board or a lot of of solder.. Good luck!

    unless it is full or halfbridge, it isn't AC. It most likely is in this case, but flyback converters are just pulsed DC

    It is a DC driven coil, like all solid state coils, but he is using an ISSTC style driver, Interrupted Solid State Tesla Coil.
    As for how much current he's drawing, I am not sure. I think it is impressive for 24V, especially that it is an ISSTC on 24V. :) Good job.

    @xFLYBATx Might be safe or leathal, all depends on the output amperage. The lightning comming from the toroid is no longer 24V, that's just what's used to power the transformers before the coil. The regular calculation is 1kV per mm of spark (about 1/25 of an inch) but with direct current I'm not sure if that applies.

    Considering you are just using 24volts, i am having very hard time making mine to work, i am using a20ma 15kva NST, so please help me and give your schematic cause i am interested to make one for me, ok?

    actually 60-80 mA can stop the heart, but that if you would apply it with electrodes on the heart

  • @redmistpete

    right, BUT it's the current that does the damage - not just the voltage ;)

    Does anything happen if you point a LASER into the arc? I heard that LASERs ionise the air and make it conduct along the beam or will that only be very high-powered LASER?

    Have you try a single wire loop at the top to level up power? I founded this trick with china's Tesla Coil

  • @PodeCoet
    @PodeCoet 14 лет назад

    @viliusseduika
    Think about it, he's able to adjust the frequency using a potentiometer - there's no motor whirring so there's obviously no rotary spark gap, and it's DC so _something_ needs to oscillate to excite the coil - I'd say you're spot-on with the IC and power transistors/FETs ;) Maybe a 555 timer, some mosfet drivers and a couple of IRFP2907's?

    @jeancruz01 Of coarse it has a power source! Why on earth do so many people think Tesla coils produce magic free energy?!

    haha, that's a great film (especially the silhouette scene with the sailor - PMSL). LASER should always really be capitalised though because it's an acronym for "Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation". Laser and Lazer (as it is sometimes spelled) are technically incorrect. They are awesome things which have great potential in both lethal and non-lethal weapon systems.

    hey great vid but did you just hook up 2 12 volt batterys to the primary which passed on to the secondary is that it. Is it really THAT SIMPLE pleeeeeeeaaaaaaaase reply

  • @viliusseduika
    @viliusseduika 14 лет назад

    @PodeCoet Well it COULD work, but how hingh currents must be in the primary, so it could induce current in the secondary? For 24V and that sice of the coil I think it has to be about 100-120 amperes. Am I right?

    I was wondering if you could give me afew specson that coil you have there and isit only 24volts int he primary circuit or do you have ahigh voltage transformer hidden underneath the base wanting to build a low voltage one

  • @FireBirdsGo

    HybridSpaceMonkey its actually both current AND voltage that kills you. Current cant kill you if theres not enough voltage (pressure) to brake down the resistance of your skin. That is a simple fact. But forget my last comment btw. You are right about the output of this coil being many thousands of volts. Im not sure why I said it was 24volts lol.

    and by fatal you mean you will recieve an arrhythmia which can result in loss of proper heart function such as ventricular fibrillation and therefore fatal (if left untreated)? I mean the 60-80 mA will -stop- the heart, I didn't mean lesser would not be anyless deadly.
