I am from Bihar and use trains for my travel from Delhi to Patna. Over period of time, train experience have improved but there is lot to done to bring it to desired experience. Indian trains need to be economical as it is used by mass . Privatisation is the need of time, it will help bring expertise in governance, introduce new changes and most important run operations in profit. It will happen if people stop seeing as way of getting government job, need to remember goal is to provide means of transport, which is economical, safe and fast. There should be competition to take it to next level , railway should not become next BSNL, running trains below 100 km and thinking we can progress is day dreaming.
It can afford upto 250 km/ hr but due to train lines not updated upto that level therefore it is restricted to move with speed like 130 km/ hr or 140 km/ hr.
Indian train have normal speed you are right . But gradually indian railway have started upgrading into semi high speed train like vande Bharat train .

Maximum Permissible Speed is 130 kmph. Only trains crossing this is 1. New Delhi - Kamlapati shatabdi Express (150 kmph) & 2. Gatimaan Express (160 kmph).. Other than that on major routes most of trains have speed limit of 130 kmph or 110 kmph (ICF coaches)

@@shivamsinghvgshivam1600 No.. no train is permitted to cross its prescribed speed. All 3 mumbai rajdhani top speed is 130 kmph. LP may lose his job. Ya, earlier they tried to run 12951/52 at 140 kmph, but this did not materialise.

@@b.l.0427 No, it runs at 130 kmph only. Trials were done for 180 kmph but operates with passengers at 130 kmph (all 3 vande bharat). But, by average speed Varanasi Vande Bharat beats Gatiman express, as Gatiman express has slower Time table between agra jhansi.
So, If top speed is considered, fastest is Gatiman Express.
If avg spees is considered, varanasi Vande Bharat is fastest.
