Brilliant once again! It must take you ages to do this, thanks so much for doing so, it's a great nostalgia trip. I'm slowly working my way through all the episodes on dvd so for a brief time I can fool myself that I'm not in 2024.
Another great episode, well done tracking down Rodney House! A couple of places I’d like to revisit next time I’m in that area of London the Walmer Castle for sure! Thanks again for your great editing and commentary!
F**king nailed it. Again. Your work is exemplary, a delight for me as an exiled Londoner. A great companion to one of the greatest tv programmes ever, set in the greatest city in the world. Cheers.
Skeff AKA Boycey! 😅 Brilliant stuff yet again, thanks so much for all your hard work tracking these locations down. These videos take me back to a simpler and, some would say, better time. I know there are plenty of things which have improved over the decades but I would go back to the ‘70s in a heartbeat, given the chance.

Another excellent video from a bygone age. The younger viewers here missed out on "proper" London with "proper" geezers. No lattes or Moccachoccachinos in The Sweeney. It was real boozers and black eyes!
Absolutely superb! Great narration to. The streets look so much more cluttered now. Mostly because of cars, but also so much over the top street furniture such as signs, bollards etc. I think in general there’s more litter to. Great to see that boozer survived - I’m planning a Sweeney pub crawl with me mates probably next year. As there aren’t that many I’m fleshing it out with Minder & New Tricks as a tribute to the late great Dennis Waterman RIP
First time viewer, but I have to say finding these places and the detail is very well done. Thank you. I had a mate who was a met cop and he said they hated this series because it gave away a lot of the flying squad secrets, so it was very accurate.
This channel is quite simply the best thing on RUclips. I always stumbled on Sweeney locations by accident when in London. For instance, I was passing the Copthorne Tara hotel in Kensington about ten years ago and couldn't resist popping round the back to visit the scene of the shootout with Billy Medhurst's firm (of course I could've gone inside and visited the scene of Jack getting lucky (almost) with the air hostess in Selected Target🙂
Absolutely essential viewing for any fan. I'm always impressed by your attention to detail while giving informative narration. Easy to watch these on their own or as a watchalong with the episode in question. Brilliant stuff. Can't wait for more 👏👏👏
Fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the door knob/knocker/hand-rail level of detail, and I’m sure I can’t be the only viewer that sad! Oh, and of course the ever humorous narration, e.g "triple denim action". It was also good to hear a little about the research you had to do. I hope you are enjoying making these.
My Sweeney memory is from 77 78 when I worked for British Relay Special Services in London. We had a contract covering TV/radio/PA systems in all THF locations. I remember being called out to the Tara Hotel just off Kensington High Street and realising it was the hotel where Jack had 'Ugandan discussions' with the American Air hostess. #goodolddays
@@Sweenealogy I think I saw it. Leinster Place where the false buildings are. (First episode?) Blew me away. The pub (Leinster Arms?) is still there but looks a lot better these days. A long time ago for me- 1987. Thanks for doing what you do. I'm sure it means a lot to many people. 🍺
The Rugby special music is called 'Holy Mackerel' and was written by Brian Bennett, drummer with the shadows, some of his other work was in the Sweeney in the episode 'Hideout' used in the episode Poppy where James Booth's 'Vic Labett' recovers his money and gems from the Thames pier.
Excellent video again, your attention to detail is top notch. I was only born in 1974 so my first real viewing of The Sweeney was when Channel 5 started broadcasting episodes at 9pm during the week in the late 1990s. They only showed around maybe 10 episodes, but I was immediately hooked. Then in the early nouties, Network announced they were releasing the entire Sweeney as box sets on DVD so I bought them. Then soddin ITV4 decided to rerun edited versions of The Sweeney over and over again. Then Network announced they were releasing The Sweeney on bluray and I thought I'd hang on until all 4 series were on bluray, but they stopped after series 1 due to lack of demand - which I partly blame on ITV4 for their constant reruns. When Network originally released The Sweeney on dvd around 2004 it wasn't being broadcast on any UK tv channel at the time, fans could only view it by buying the dvds. I still live in hope somone will one day convert all episodes of The Sweeney and Minder to bluray.
Yeah I've got the 4 Network DVD box sets; like you I was hanging on for all of them to be out on Blu-Ray but alas, not as yet. I won't even touch the butchered ITV4 versions; Amazon Prime has nearly all episodes available so at least that's a streaming option if people want it (I do have a Prime sub, but I just watch the DVDs mostly).
Excellent as always. Even your accent adds to the atmosphere Guv’nr. Loved the reference to the lemonade and bag of crisps’ in a beer garden as in the 1970’s that’s exactly what my dad did to us kids …and mum.
absolutely superb! these videos are just great, how i miss 70s london, so much character compared to the sterility of today, what a show the Sweeney was, as you say the greatest telly show ever, john thaw is currently appearing in an obscure 1974 series called the capone investment(on nostalgia channel talking pictures) playing a middle class type, this character is far more like the real john but to me he'll always be jack regan as he played that part so well, he's been seen in the capone investment driving a lovely triumph stag as opposed to his rather shabby mk2 cortina and the red mk1 escort in the pilot episode(tina and escy are both fantastic classics of course like the stag) thanks so much, always a joy to see your stuff
I love this. Only really found The Sweeney around 5 years ago when I was able to watch a lot of daytime TV after having our first child. It's great to see the then and now shots. Thanks.
I lived in London at the time The Sweeney was being made, and I often - as I'm watching episodes - flick over to Google Maps for a 'then and now'. I'm especially familiar with the areas around south London: Putney, Wandsworth, Battersea, Fulham, etc. I remember that 'Aussie' episode with Patrick Mower and George Leyton very well! 'Trojan Bus'. One of my favourites. "You say either, I say either... you say Geisler, I say Gysler. Either, either, Geisler, Gysler... I say it's time to get off!" Excellent. You probably know that the early scenes in the film 'Sweeney 2' were shot by the Riverside Cafe in Putney, just across from Kenilworth Court. I grew up in Putney in the '60s and '70s and I knew that cafe well as a kid. Long gone now. 'Minder' is another one I check out a lot as many episodes were filmed around Putney. Arthur Daley's first lock-up was in Brewhouse Lane, near the church at Putney Bridge. That's gone now. The Winchester Club (exterior) was filmed at a house in Deodar Road - number 200a, near the corner with Putney Bridge Road. Still there, and still recognisable. Great to see these vids. Keep up the good work!
Fantastic! A note about the music used when Ray crosses the street to catch the 52 bus - it's entitled "Holy Mackarel", composed by Brian Bennett, who was also drummer for The Shadows. And indeed it was used as the Rugby Special theme tune. Brian also composed a piece called "Chaseside Shoot Up" - also used by the BBC as their iconic golf theme tune.
Another great video, worked in w10 and w11 in the 90s and the Walmer castle was.one of my customers. The mews next door to it is where terry mccann chases one of the thugs in the minder episode 'whose wife is it anyway '. ,and Ledbury road is where alan and Jim had their antique shop.

If only they could have spread out to other parts such as the east end, which had its fair share of villains in the 70s - some of our friends of a mature age might remember the well known George Davis who gained incredible publicity in the mid 70s with graffiti everywhere proclaiming his innocence of robbery charges (I have a vivid memory of seeing "George Davis is innocent" on a railway bridge on Bow Road for several years as I travelled regularly to school on the 25 bus). I absolutely love this series. I wasn't even able to form words when The Sweeney was on (I arrived 1978) but I love social history and this stuff gets me every time. Bravo, sir.
I was just too young to have seen the series when it first aired; but every grimy London frame speaks to my childhood, which is undoubtedly why I became so obsessed with it later on in life.
Brilliant, love these trips down memory lane. The Sweeney was by far my favourite programme as a kid. Wow, check out the collar on the shirt of denim man early in the video!
Imagine having access to a Tardis, going back to early '70s London, & buying up property in shabby, run-down Notting Hill & Hammersmith...😏 Thanks for another great dose of time travel!
The bronze consul 3.0 ltr used in the series is alive and well. Chap I know has it in his collection. Apparently he rescued it from a scrap yard. Now restored looks as new. The other cars used in the later series didn’t survive unfortunately. Excellent work btw..

Very enjoyable video. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Brilliant, love these trips down memory lane. The Sweeney was by far my favourite programme as a kid. Wow, check out the collar on the shirt of denim man early in the video!
Another spot on Sweeney tour, thank you for your hard work mate.
Glad you enjoyed it 😊👍
Another great trip down The Sweeney's memory lane. Love all the comparison shots and looking forward to the next one.
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
You did the walk and the talk, so we can enjoy more Sweeney filming locations. Nice one 👍
Thanks!
Can only echo all the other comments - absolutely top work and greatly appreciated!
Thank you, so glad to hear you enjoyed it
Epic fella, love seeing London and the shooting locations
Superb. Well researched and well presented. Keep up the good work 💪🏻
Thanks!
Imagine having access to a Tardis, going back to early '70s London, & buying up property in shabby, run-down Notting Hill & Hammersmith...😏
Thanks for another great dose of time travel!
The King Charles III banknotes could be a problem.
@@richardm7004 I was going to take my chequebook 😁
The bronze consul 3.0 ltr used in the series is alive and well. Chap I know has it in his collection. Apparently he rescued it from a scrap yard. Now restored looks as new. The other cars used in the later series didn’t survive unfortunately. Excellent work btw..
Superb work again loving the content and attention to detail keep the updates coming all the best….
Thanks, will do!
Well done great detective work finding these locations after all these years.
Fantastic video, brilliantly researched, great bit of banter as well. I'm so looking forward to the next one! You're so right, The Sweeney, probably the best tv series ever!❤👍🙂
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Great work as usual mate, Lovely to see good old England
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great trip down memory lane.. Shut it!
