UAVfutures hmm since I’m a thumber, probably the x lite
The x lite...but I have a qx7 now
Got the Qx7 for a year now but recently bought the X-Lite. So far I can say it has plenty of switches (if you reuse the Dpad, because who needs trims for drones) and I got quite a lot more space in my travel bag now so I can carry more Lipo's wich is great!
What about the t8sg v2 plus?
I had to choose and I bought the x-lite. I'm not selling my x9d+ quite yet though...
Stew, I give you a thumbs up for that test. Real world and leaving the quad behind was a great idea. Good work and thanks,
yoyo bro just wanted to talk shit and say thank you im at the next lvl because of the beautiful drone community. it all started with blu falcon and you and many more after you guys. I could not fly if it was not for you and all the others. so thank you flying for me is a dream come true. Someday i hope to fly with you keep up the good work Thanks AGAIN
I am super happy with my X-lite. I did the switch over from using the Turnigy Evolution. Huge difference in greater range and loads more features.
Great video Stew!
I am definitely getting the X Lite asap. I am a Turnigy Evo user that has wanted to make the jump to Frsky for a while but never fancied any of the big radios. The X Lite is a dream come true for me :) Cant wait to get my hands on one :)
Hey Stu, what happened to the 3, 2, 1, whoop! I was waiting for it man😆
I've ordered the X Lite base on your previous review, so I'm very happy that the range test proved positive, I'm definitely looking forward to the portability of the X Lite. Thanks Stew for the review.
Thank you so much for this comparison video. I've been debating between the two of them for the past few weeks.
At the telegraph pole, -haha. I get that it' just a comparison, but what Rx and how far did you go?
I ordered an x-lite for a backpack transmitter to go with my folding tri-copter. Haven't received it yet due to it being on back order but im looking forward to trying it out
Great video for those of us who ate waiting for our xlite to arrive. P.S. I love the music.
Im still using liftoff to get used to the controls and im thinking this may be the controller for me. Would it work on a sim?
I'd like to see a test with the TBS Diamond external antenna. Keep up the great work. I love my X-Lite so far!
You do realize the Diamond antenna is specifically for TBS Crossfire, right? Antennas are built for a specific frequency range, and frsky operates in the 2.4GHz range, whereas Crossfire (and the Diamond) are ~900MHz.
Great Job! I was wondering about this little one because it would make it easier to pack up. Will the little one run LUA scripts? I like having the ability to adjust my PIDs on my radio.
Hey Stu ... Question for you .. Do you place that Cactus on Grumpy Trev’s Chair before his Reviews to get Him in the Proper Professional Mood ....?
Thanks Stu - I love my X-Lite but need to find away to loosen the tension of the sticks
I have a question, what batteries are you using in your x-lite. Ive just purchased one, and while it is shipping, im looking for batteries. Ive seen the button tops not fit, and the flat tops are the way to go.
Hey Stew! I responded to your DM earlier. :)
The X-Lite looks very interesting for a super compact travel setup paired with a 3” quad.
can you please explain real quickly how is the radio aware of the drone? I thought it was broadcasting only (one way). Is it also getting something from the VTX?
It looks like you were holding the qx7 with a vertical polarization, and I'm curious if the x-lite is using a horizontal polarized antenna.
You are going to get some losses if the transmitter antenna doesn't match the quad rx antennas.
How does it do with an antenna?
Always good stuff "Quadfather"👍😋
💪🃏
Great test but you might be able to get better results if you set your radio up so that you get rssi signal on a screen and then you can really see how the signal strength differs.
Thanks for your vids.
Does it matter what kind of receiver was being used as well? Or did I miss that part where you said which one it is?
Great stuff mate..telegraph pole? I think you should introduce a weekly Aussie slang that us Americans don't use. Perspects, AlYouMinIum, veggiemite, Ru-bars, dead horse, etc..
Wonder how much better the xlite would do if it had the external antenna. I just received a couple I'll be trying out. Honestly, my video always drops before my Tx so I never get fail-safes and range isn't a factor. Maybe if I was doing long range with a ground station, but then this isn't the radio I'd be using for that.
I started out thumbing but saw the light with pinching. My flying skills dramatically improved with pinching. The xlite is just a little tight for pinching and the stick throw makes it feel like my rates are cranked up, but even with these faults, I still like it a lot for its portability, capability, performance and build quality.
Can't wait to receive my Dark Knight Nirvana radio. It's a bit bigger, but it's built for Pinchers and is still very portable for when I travel.
Cheers..
"Put another shrimp on the barbie" has a whole nother meaning in the States. 👯😈 👍😋🍻
💪🃏
haha assuming you mean perspex not perspects? just so you know
Stingin Rodger lol..I actually mean Plexiglass..had no idea how how to spell Perspex. Maybe extruded acrylic...but not Perspex. Lol
I will be getting the xlite! Thanks Stew! That was helpful enough to sway my decision!
How is it a fair comparison? A fair comparison would be orientating the stock antenna on the QX7 in the optimal position. It’s like Usain Bolt racing me but breaking his foot then saying that I am faster than him. I would consider doing the test again but. Orientating the QX7 antenna correctly, just a suggestion.
You bring up a fair point, but consider this: Most beginners are not going to remember to orient their antennas correctly on a QX7 anyway (if they even know correct orientation). So from that perspective, on the X Lite, there is no external antenna to worry about at all and it gets at least comparable performance to the QX7 (maybe even a little better range). That's the main take away...Stew isn't JB, so don't expect him to do the most "scientific" tests, lol.
Raymond Williams that’s true, some pilots won’t orientate The antenna correctly anyway. However, I would consider myself the average pilot like probably a lot that watched this video, and I found myself asking why he didn’t adjust the antennas. Sure you could do that test, but I would have also included another test for all the pilots who can orientate an antenna, (which is very simple), and for those who would be willing to learn correct antenna orientation. But you do also make a good point.
No you're right...you can still add an external antenna on it.
Larry Dommer but if we’re comparing the stock radios, we can’t use an external antenna. Unless the lite comes with one.
@LorDNation In all honestly, stuff like antenna orientation is pretty important in this hobby. So I think you're right the more I think about it. It probably would be of benefit to the community for him to orient it correctly in the test and maybe even give a quick explanation to help noobs understand why he did it.
I just bought my first radio(taranis qx7) did I make a mistake? I am wondering if I should of spent 20$ more and go the X-Lite.
Can i use the taranis qx7 for rc planes too??
I want to start drone flying but i don't know what drone i should get..
That was a great idea on how to do a review on both! I like it!
I'd be curious to know what your battery levels were like in each radio during the test. Given its the telemetry dropping out so its the receive side, battery shouldn't really have that much of an impact. Would also be intereting to see how the multi-protocol modules stand up in the same test. Not sure what the X-Lite's internal antennas are like, but the evolution has two of them internally so I do wonder if the x-lite does the same and what impact it has, It would also be interesting to see what the x-lites external antenna does (i.e. is it worth it?). Interesting result tho, i would have thought the qx7 would have won that quite easily.
Stu does it come with voice prompt right out of the box?
You have to add a micro SD card and download the sounds file .... I then overwrote the sounds with Amber voice files .... much nicer!
Is there a long range module for x lite yet? Because I know there’s the r9m lite but is it really a long range module?
Hey, the x lite timer does not work. You set the timer to 3 min and is very slow it end up being over 5min. Does yours do that??? Check it out.
Ive put some x9d stickends on my xlite, I semi pinch so LOVE it. a hazel to get this ends on there but well worth it
Try a non telemetry receiver Stu..... like the XM Plus....More range than you know what to do with, even on a quad.
Of course telemetry goes out much earlier than actual RF signal because the rx (on the quad) doesn't nearly put out as much power as the radio...
I think the QX7 just gave a lot more audible warnings about telemetry, maybe its on a different OpenTX version than your Xlite...
But even in your video I'd say the Xlite had "RF signal low" much earlier than the QX7.
Thanks for this very extensive and I reckon exhausting testing, but I'm not fully convinced by your conclusion. ,)
I mentioned the exact same thing. I feel this test is not set up properly to give a fair comparison. I feel he needs to have both radios on opentx 2.2.2 then set up his sensors on both as well as an active dB callout switch. I will actually give you numeric readings so you can get more accurate data.
Aww man. I use the Mr Steele Taranis X9D, but these new X-lites are very, very tempting. I use thumbs, do these are very attractive. However, I am also considering going to TBS Crossfire, so now I am totally torn.
Thanks for the review. I am quite amazed how far the range can go on the X-lite.
HI SignoEleven, hope you don't mind me asking as I am new to this, I am building my first micro and have got a Crossfire Nano RX will that pair up with the X-Lites or do I need a Taranis X9D. Cheers David.
Good day Stew could you please tell me were i can get the music you used in this video i would greatly appreciate it thanks.
Stew, what are those stick-ends on your x-lite?
Thank you for the video. Does this need a modification in order to be used with TBS Crossfire, like the QX7?
Yes it requires mods that MAY damage the radio and voids the factory warranty... Why even bother with crossfire on an frsky radio these days anyways with R9M now available, what's the point?? They are pretty much exactly the same 900mhz system, except ones ACTUALLY MADE for the radio and a quarter of the price, and the other is not and is INSANELY expensive.... A 40$ r9m using upgraded or even crossfire antennas is pretty much EXACTLY a 200$ full size crossfire, not even mentioning the HUGE price difference in receivers or trying to mod your $100+ radio doing who knows what to it EVEN IF your successful... Frsky even has an r9m module JUST FOR the xlite!!!
Does the little controller take modules or is the q7 still better for that. More so for the TBS module.
x-lite does not take the large modules.
no it doesnt, i know that but we should be able to wire it up.
But about how far did the transmitters last for? 2km???
Hi Stu, what radio similar to the Frsky lite and can change from mode 1 to mode 2 ty 😁
I have a question if i have a frsky reciever is it able to binde with flysky controller
im surprised as well. i will for sure consider looking at it in the future. sweet :0
What receivers can you use with the q x7
Just think how far you could have gone with the external antenna. Great Video can't wait to get one , Be nice to throw in your backpack and a couple drones and head to the park. JohnnyDRC
Been waiting for this video
I would go with this X-Lite as my second radio, but before of that I have to buy my first 🔜🎮
Oh brave man Stu. These kinds of tests have to be done perfectly or else you’ll get ripped up in the comments. :-) My antenna comparison on the X-Lite got probably the most hate I’ve seen. It was mostly polite, But everyone wants it done differently.
Hey, I’ve ordered an X-Lite because of your videos, so you’re clearly doing something right!
Hey, which quad is this?
I think the qx7 is still a win because it's have a lower price tag for about the same rf quality.
The xlite might be worth for people that have much time with miniquad or tinywhoop class, but it have a hard time for people that want to try fixed wing (because the trim is somewhat hard to access, not like qx7)
And it's need to be mention that the xlite have better build quality overall than qx7
*anyway, I'm using qx7 right now and I don't have any issue with the size, I also love the gimbal because it just bigger than my flysky fs-i6x 😁
M Argus Chopin Gyver the X light was designed specifically for quads I don't think anybody out there uses it for a fixed-wing
I fly fixed wing more than mniquads, and feel this XLite is excellent for planes. the trim adjustment is actually easier to access than on a regular radio - usually only trimming the Ail-Ele, and in mode 2 the trim can be done with the left thumb while the right hand is flying. perfect. Only issue is the ridiculously short stick ends. I made some really long stick ends for my Xlite form aluminum, and now it has more travel than the X9D and feels fantastic. this radio is a winner
@@Robert67909 I do and I am very happy, how many times you trim? I have 2 QX7 and both will be exchanged for X-Lite, all good stuff of Full Taranis in a small package? I am sold!
@@planesandbikes7353 yes, just need to get used to the shorter sticks.
isnt the antenna in the x lite a patch?
My Qx7 doesnt Beep when in binding mode, how can i enable the beep? (i have voice on the sd)
how far in meters did u go?
Bit better for whooping. Seems silly having a massive radio for a whoop
My GF used to joke about how dumb I looked flying micros with my X9D Plus, lol
The qx7 isn't massive but thanks for your contribution.
How far was it?
TELLAGRAPH POLE...hahaha you guys on the other side are soo funny!!
I recently bought a qx7 and wish i would have just waited for the x lite. But the qx7 was tried and true.
Andrew Carrigan you Made the correct choice mate
Team crap sheep thanks, im happy to hear that.
Super Professional!
I would argue the Mr.Steele radio with the "penetrator" antenna has the best range.
So I purchased an Xlite because of this video.... I’m so pissed I can’t go half the distance with the X-Lite as i can with my QX7. Wasted $170. Hopefully I can return it. Also good luck getting 18500 battery’s. THEY DO NOT SELL AT VAPE SHOPS!!!
Elite is maybe OK with option, upgrade .If not it just scarry to use .
Always the pink one !!!
Where can you get the QX7 for 90$ ??? Everything i find is 150+
Steven Darlington are you looking at qx7 or qx7S? The QX7S is more in the price range your talking about, it is an upgraded version of the QX7. Most hobby sites have the base QX7 for around $100 but you can always find one or two places that run a little cheaper.
Sasquatch FPV definitely the QX7. Maybe he's saying US price. I just assume he Australian he would have said AUD
Try hobbyking
Hey Stew, this was an interesting comparison. Although I like the idea that the X-lite seems to have a little more distance, I still favor the Q X7 because it feels like I'm handling a more industrial form of radio than toyish-like look of the X-lite. In other words, it feels like I'm handling a REAL transmitter for the hobby. Maybe it will take more with the younger generation, since it more resembles a video game controller (or if you're older and are a gamer too). I also like the idea that I still have extra switches/ knobs as options for aux channels if needed, like for changing adjustments in flight or a special mode change, etc. That is my opinion of it all. ~Aloha from Hawaii & as always, Happy Flying!
I thought the X-lite would feel like a toy. But it does not. It feels like a high quality piece of equipment and I am impressed with it. The xbox controller seems like a cheap toy compared to the x-lite.
Floyd Helios I guess for the price tag, I would want something that feels its worth. The Q X7 definitely does that for me. It could be psychological, but I also like the extra switches, although I only use 2 for now.
I hear you. I also have a QX7. To me the Xlite feels like the more expensive and precision of the two. There are enough switches for me, and I use a lot. I use Arm, lost model, turtle mode, LED's on, blackbox, and launch mode with the four switches no problem. The plus pad can give you more switches if you need them on a quad because you don't need trims anyway.
Floyd Helios I just might have to get one then. Mainly for it's size for portability in travelling.
Yeah I bought it for the same reason! All my minis are bound to it now. Thinking about binding my other 5-inch quads to it but then I'll feel guilty about having a radio that I don't use!
You get a longer range by using the T antenna on the xlite.
what, ever try Spektrum? not to say it's better but I rarely see video's comparing radio's from all the big shops. what its Frsky and Spektrum and one other company i never remember.
kazuma drewsin there are a few, but those two are the big ones. It is kinda like xbox vs playstation when it comes to them. Each has its own fanboys. I have never had an issue with my Frsky, or my Spektrum. But then again I only whoop with my Spektrum, I saw Twigs failsafe twice while flying in Silverdale with his fancy Spektrum radio.
As usual stew great content your test was about a scientific as it could come I fly fixed-wing and multi-rotor so I'm going to have to stick with the bigger radio because I need the extra switches but yeah hey it looks like a nice little radio and if all I did was flying drones are quads it would be excellent At retractable gear and flaps and bomb drops and stuff like that so I need the extra switches but yeah if I had a choice I would I would prefer yeah because it would be easier to transport and I mean it just would be an all-around better radio but for now I'll stick with my bigger radios but as always you'll do a fantastic job you and grumpy and Granger and CTC when he's around anymore and then we works so you know I've got out of him y'all keep flying keep making these great videos I love them love you guys and keep having a good time
Xlite for me!
Turnigy evolution ever!
i bougth the x-lite to replace my spektrum dx7s
RifleRud what are you gonna do with the spectrum? I need a radio, how much are you asking?
+Jonathan Smith-Bey I'm down here in norway so the shipping cost is going to be expensive. and in norway these radios goes for around 165usd used
Uhmmm, what was the distance in meters?
I thought Australians drive on the wrong side of the road? 😉 For what it's worth I enjoyed this video, thanks Stew.
T8SG v2+ 👍
well I just broke my qx7, so I guess I know what I'm buying!
you should do that same test but with crossfire and set it to 2W lmao
HardTimeZFpv lol he'd have to start swimming to find the end of the range
Hey man I have some question for your is there a way we can talk in a private message
email us uavfutures@gmail.com
Here in the U.S. we stopped using telegraph poles in the very early 1900's. I think the patent on telephones has expired, Australia should look into this new technology. Too funny.
Please I need help, anyone
Q1. When you buy the x lite does the battery's come with or do you have to buy it on its own?
Q2. If it doesn't come with what what charger do you use and does it come with a cable?
If you answer thank you, I've wanted to get into this hobby for a year or two (I'm 15) and finally pulled the trigger and bought some gear.
:)
Aiden Porter 18500s do not come with radio, you need to provide your own charger. No it doesn't come with anything in regards to charging batteries. 18500s can be found at most Lowe's or Home Depot under flashlight batteries. So I assume you should be able to pick up a charger there too
jakey Dee FPV thank you I appreciate it
If you buy 18500 batteries at home depot or lowe's or batteries plus...then they are LiFePo4's and WILL NOT WORK. I know because I wasted my money on them. They do not deliver enough current to run this radio. Plus they don't fit right because of the button on top. You have to buy these batteries online somewhere. Search for "EBL 18500" on amazon (good batteries, quick shipping, I use them and they work great) or search Panasonic NCR18500a on google (arguably the best 18500).
X-box.. I mean.. x-lite controller FTW!!
First like first comment and first view
I didn't like the xlite, the sticks were too short for me. I also did not like the overall cheap feeling. Could never get the gimbals how I liked them
i love the form but agree the gimbals dont feel as nice as my qx7
Do a sideways power loop... And I am first.. So yeah..
"telemetry lost" is not the same as lost control.
Undergroundfpv nirvana is the best radio all around.
Great Video comparison :) .The Lite is impressive even though it looks a bit like something that comes with a kit from Toyworld it has performance to amaze. However I went with your earlier reccomendation and got the Qx7 in... ORANGE . Where the "lite" is awesome it's still not awesome enough to rip me away from my Qx7,,,,, and the Lite is not ORANGE lol :) Thanks for your hard work :)
Also has anyone seen the Jumper T8SG Tx unit. Like is that for real ? Gear Best have it heaps cheaper than BangGood. But is it a game changer as it says it can talk to just about any reciever ?!>? from any company likr FLysky FrSky Spektrum Futaba etc Wow.. Still even that is not Orange enough for me lol :")
X lite
Walk hey. Seems though legs didn't do a lot of swinging...
shhh
Very mice
Neither! Get the Jumper T8SG V2.0 Plus :) If you like small it will compare nicely to the xlite. And its multi protocol!
Now I need an X Lite! That's ok, I'll just pass my x7s to my daughter ; )
Why ride on wrong side of road?????
so I can see any cars coming and not get clipped from behind
'telemetry lost' ....alrighty!
Too bad they didn't make it in purple for ya, Stu!!
👍 👍 👍
tweekFPV dang it hi stew you’ll see this I bet
Telegraph pole!! 🤣🤣🤣
!@#$%^&* I wish I wasn't a pincher! I love the X-Lite!
First like lol
