Great video. The loader is a veteran but it gets the job done. Take care of it and it will give you many years of service. The red oak is awesome looking!
Thanks for sharing all of your quality equipment. Every time I want you to take me back to when I used to sit in a cab eight hours a day but those edger saws just blow me away. Beautiful lumber and skill of pulling all the top grade out of those beautiful logs👍
awesome vid! love your operation. sometime can you do a walk through on your setworks? and also sawdust removal...etc. thanks. keep on sawin. ps that loader is from the school they tore down to build the old school. love seeing the old stuff still gettin it done!
What are the advantages/drawbacks of running a lower/upper circular sawmill, as opposed to a band mill? Also, what is your opinion of band mills that use a double-sided blade?
You know, just because a piece of equipment has some physical age and design restrictions does not mean that it is no longer good. When I was stationed in Germany in the 70's we were operating equipment that was made in the 40's and would out work any of the new stuff. As usual love the videos and the commentary. Say hi to your grandpa or me. Bob
The machine you are using is very advanced, 99% of the work is done by the machine, unlike the wood processing we have, where almost all the work is done using human labor.
I've never seen a circle mill with all those useful options! Very cool! Love those horizontal double saws! What is your ability to see actual cant size in the cab? I'm watching you make correction passes and wondering how you can saw off a 1/4" with getting out of the cab..thx
I have many different controls that I’ll explain at a certain point. I have two different size indicators that I read. The vertical edgers are one, you can kind of see it in front of my face. And then a dial on the carriage that I’m looking at. If that saws cutting right shaving a quarter inch is no problem. This won’t be the channel of me trying to figure out how to make the saw cut😂 Thank you for commenting
Good question. The wein is actually desired. They will be milling the raw lumber down into a finished product. They grade and measure from the bad side of the board. As long as the wein doesn’t go through you’re good!
I'm glad I found this channel. This is a real saw mill outfit!!!!!!
Just wait till the channel grows!
@@Helmsburgsawmill that should not be hard.
"Old school" be running long and strong that's for sure.

Ain't nothing wrong with 50 year old stuff, I was born in 1974
you may have cancer without knowing.

I enjoy your videos. I would like to see that loader equipped with a ROPS for your saftey.

Love watching this mill work,,the 4 blades are awesome
Wish I had those planks. Would build a fantastic porch table, great job man
Thank you sir!!
Some over edging always keeps you honest,as long as you under edge a little also.

It's actually not as advanced as you think. He is setting the edgers without computers. Nothing is automated.

The trailer out for the head rig is costing that sawmill a lot of money
Make sure to like and subscribe:)
Run 2 debarkers in my 27 yrs of sawmilling never seen one like that one does a excellent job how is it on knotty and crooked logs
The knotty and crooked logs also take practice😅
Fantastic video thanks for sharing! where is your sawmill located?
Helmsburg, Indiana! Also in Brown County Indiana! Ranked for fall foliage haha. Hardwood capital of the world😉
How do you clean up all of that peeled bark that builds up ?
Скільки кубів можна різати за зміну? Скільки коштує?
Where are you located very nice oak logs
Why do you let so much wein on the boards when you edge them

What do you mean when you say like 6/4 ?
Six quarters + an eighth. An 1” and 5/8’s.
But you know I will just bring that up here shortly
My last name is Helms sooo....😂
