@JulieandMartinonRIB bless you! You are so good at keeping on the ball with messages.. But don't feel obliged to reply either 😉..! We've been living in France for nearly 20 years and were trying the whole self sufficiency lifestyle, which was hard work at times.. Culture and language as well as practically.. Never mind parenting 4 children! As they left home we downsized dramatically, but we're in a little community now where most of our neighbours live really simply.. One room cabins, self built, a solar panel, filtering rainwater, foraging and making their own food and medicines.. And I've realised our little home is still way more than we want or need. We looked at van life.. Don't enjoy the stress of roads, Cabins/tiny homes.. but you're static there and can't guarantee good neighbours or environment, then we started seeing people living on boats pop up on our social media posts. At first it seemed like a wildly daring and precarious idea, but the more we looked and found wonderfully calm, beautiful, reassuring vlogs like yours, the more it's normalised the lifestyle and community and we can see all the benefits (as well as the harsh realities at times 🙃). We're at the stage of planning and research.. The house goes on the market in spring, and the move gradually happens over autumn and winter. My partner, Gray, is heading over alone first to find the right boat while I stay here to settle our youngest into his independence. I've accepted that with family here and in the UK, life will always be 'on the move' anyway, but we just love the idea of living simply and exploring continuously. My only concern was people.. A sense of community, but I see that is there too. I love the way you and Nicki keep meeting up and helping one another along, and I loved you sitting down with your musical friend.. And the frequent social events..mixed in with the tranquility and peace of cruising. Have a beautiful day, thanks again for the inspiration, and it will be wonderful to meet you all one day on the beautiful waterways of England! And I really appreciate reflections too🥰! Well done on your first time lapse it turned out really good. The drone footage was also amazing. Thank you for sharing it with us. I hope Martin is not going down with anything and is just tired. I think the cows were just being nosey. The double bridge reflection looked fantastic. Take care of yourselves.😊
Lol Yvonne, it wasn’t Martin that was tired, it was little Roo, isn’t she just so cute! That sunrise was amazing, I just wish I had put the camera off of the boat, we wouldn’t have had those little wobbly bits, obviously when we moved in the boat d’oh! Those cows did make me laugh, so glad you enjoyed this one Yvonne, thank you for your lovely comment! xx
Aww yes, Vinnie sang that song as he knows how much I love Elvis, obviously I couldn’t show anymore due to copyright! Glad you enjoyed this one! Speak soon xx
Hi Charlotte, you’re right, I haven’t filmed me making h8m a cuppa for a while, I’ll try and remember to film it next time we cruise. Thanks Charlotte xx
Fantastic photography, Julie. Filmed at a lovely pace, so relaxing. I love it when there is mist about, so atmospheric. Even with leaves on the water, you manage to capture a reflection. The time lapse of the sunrise was lovely, and the sunset would not have been so good without the clouds, or at least imo. During your 8 day moorup, did Martin get some fishing in? In the opening clip I thought Roo was yours, but all became clear. What lovely dogs, so well trained. Congrats to Nicky. Looking forward to part 2. Take care, Barry xx
Your boat always looked so complete until today - now it won't look complete once you leave Nicki behind since it looks the full package when Roo is sat on the cabin roof. She even matches your woodwork. Tim & Jalika, Malaysia
Beautiful episode as usual Julie, Roo & Martin. We just sold our home here in Windsor. It's a toss up between The Highlands or full time boating. I will keep you posted which one we decide on. Have a wonderful upcoming weekend 😘 Howard xx
Ooh how exciting! Scotland is absolutely stunning, we have family up there, but obviously we are biased towards living on the water. We couldn’t imagine being anywhere else, we love this lifestyle, we really hope this comes across in our vlogs. No matter what the weather throws at us, or any obstacles that come our way, it all adds to the adventure. It’s great to be able to wake up so close to nature and with different scenery every so often, we just love it! Definitely keep us posted either way, perhaps you could have both, a few years on the canals and then off to the highlands …. if you can tear yourself away that is 😜 lol. Thanks Howard and good luck! xx
Hi Julie and Martin, hope you are having a great week and also keeping warm, it’s been extremely cold here today. What a fantastic video, the scenery was brilliant. I am already excited for Monday and the extra video. Hope you have a fantastic weekend, love and best wishes

Hi Mishka, I’m so pleased I tried the time lapse, I’ll definitely be doing it again, but this time will set the camera up off of the boat, so nothing can disturb and there won’t be the wobbly bits lol. Little Roo was such a cutie. Thanks Mishka, have a lovely weekend! xx
Julie. That sunrise was an experience. Celestial view. I had been thinking that you'd found a Teletubby/green rolling hills/fluffy lambs view! 😂 Great vlog. Thank you! 💙
Haha Teletubbies, you’re the second person to say that, we had to look it up lol 😂 But wasn’t it a spectacular sunrise, just stunning! Thanks Julia! xx
Lovely video as usual Julie, we're so glad you are enjoying all the moorings that we love and have done several times and there is plenty more to come. Hope to catch up soon Carole and Keith x
Aww the Macc is a beautiful canal, we will definitely be back, but in the summer next time, as we couldn’t get to appreciate half of the views. The time we were there seemed to have low cloud, mist and fog most of the time, so not able to see anything. We really wanted to go to White Nancy, climb The Cloud and go walking on the Peak Forest, but the weather just didn’t play ball and we felt that we weren’t doing the canal justice, or getting to see the real beauty of these canals. So we will be back! Hope we get to meet up again sometime! Thanks Carole & Keith xx
What an epic vlog! Just like in a movie, all that glorious scenery! The magic of a sunrise too, it reminded me of my trips to Ibiza and Mykonos where we used to celebrate them everyday! 🥰 The contrast with the very broody mood in that mist but so much fun when the gang appeared and isn’t that puppy the cutest! Hope you had a wondergul time!❤
Oh what a lovely comment Eric, it’s such a beautiful canal and so pleased that sunrise turned out well, it was amazing! Aww yes Roo was so cute, thank you so much Eric! xx
The timelapse was very nice. I like sunrises, but seldom see them. 😴 😊 Sunset is my favorite time, the golden hour. 🌄 I guess I don't understand how some of the canals are so low when you guys get so much rain and often flooding. Where does all the water go anyway? ❤
Hi Dorothy, hope you’re well! Aww yes, I love the golden hour too, love a good sunset! I’m not usually up that early, but I se5 an alarm and was determined to record a sunrise, hopefully I’ll get to do it again soon. We know what you mean re the canals being so shallow, a big reason is that the canals are often silted up at the bottom and the canals are not dredged as often as they used to be. So the silt builds up and the canals automatically drain off into culverts that lead to rivers, at a certain level, so the top of the canal appears full, but because it is so silted up, it makes the canals shallow for navigation. Really hope this makes sense, thank you Dorothy! xx
Hi Glenn, the larger one we bought in Homebase, just an outside solar light, which Martin attached to a fender hook, you can get them in chandlers, not the plastic or wooden ones, they are metal and lined with dense foam so it protects the boat handrail more. We also have similar solar lights that we bought from Amazon, which Martin added magnetic strips to the backs and they just magnetise to the side of the boat. They have a dim light after dark, but also a sensor, so as you, or someone approaches, it gets brighter, which is great for when you return back to the boat in the evening, or may deter intruders as it looks as though someone has turned th3 light on. Here’s a link to those ones amzn.to/4aIXhE5 Hope this helps Glenn! xx
Julie, I have questions concerning the numbering of the bridges. Does each canal have its own numbering system and begin with one? Are the numbers continuous from one canal to another? What is the significance of the numbers?
Hi Deborah, yes every canal has its own bridge numbers starting at number 1, although there are a couple of canals that have bridge names rather than numbers. The bridges are numbered for navigation and also points of reference, so people can easily locate you if you needed help, or if there was a problem with the canal. With so many canals and so many bridges, it is easy to pinpoint someone’s location with a bridge number. Not sure when the bridges were indeed numbered, but it was many many years ago, and as new rail bridges, or road bridges were added, they then have ‘a’ or ‘b’ or ‘c’ etc added, so if a new road bridge was added between bridges 45 and 46 for example, it would then be numbered 45a. We use the bridge numbers when cruising to gauge how long our journey is and where our next mooring will be. Hope this helps! xx
Have you got a Bow Truster an another great video by the way and hi from Runcorn in Cheshire I live between the Bridgewater canal and the Manchester ship canal Bridgewater top of the street and ship canal at the Bottom
Hi John, we do have a bow thruster, but Martin tries not to use it too much as he doesn’t like to be too dependent on it. Oh wow, I bet you get to see some lovely views from where you are, we hope to see the Manchester Shop canal one day soon! Thanks John! xx

Hi Jackie, you’re not bothering us lol 😜xx They haven’t given a date yet, but we’ve been told that Narrow Escapes should air around Spring/April time, needless to say we’re starting to get nervous! 😬 Thanks Jackie! xx
@JulieandMartinonRIB Thank you, Julie. There's absolutely no need to be nervous because you will both be as wonderful as you always are. Your lovely little laugh always makes me smile xxx
Hello The Australian Style Brits. Its me again. 4:02 Why is your husband is so proud being under bridge 69? 14:00 They are checking out your boat. They are like, "Hey Bob. Check this out." Even cows get bridges in Britain. 17:09 I think you got a stowaway.
Hiya! Lol, love this comment, made us chuckle! 🤭 Those cows did make us laugh, so funny to see them on the bridge haha and yes, little stowaway Roo, how cute is she bless her! Thank you! xx
I wonder how long it will be before Martin wants a dog 😜 It is lovely up through the Dane Valley Way., the river Dane flows down and through our village. It is said to be one of the most meandering rivers in the country. Saw you moored up the other night as I passed by on my way home, but it was a bit late to come and knock. Which way are you heading at the junction?
Haha we have no plans for a doggy lol. Aww you could have come and said hi, we are always up late lol. We have turned left and are now on the lovely Middlewich Branch Canal, it’s beautiful! Are you out on your boat, I can’t remember? Speak soon xx
@ the branch is lovely. Visitor moorings aplenty. Generally better on the SUCS moorings, but they are signed at 2 days - but you should be okay this time of year. First will be just through bridge after Stanthorne lock, then several around Church Minshull. One of our favourites is just before Aquaduct Marina. There is a lovely one between B13 and B13 but you will need tyres because of the shelf. Your next shopping really is Nantwich. If you head towards Chester there isn’t any really until the outskirts of Chester. I was at the boat today and had a little run up to Barbridge to give her a run but home again now. How far down the branch did you get? If the weather is okay tomorrow, I might bring our dog for a walk and see if I can spot you.
So sorry Alan, friends we hadn’t seen for months turned up out of the blue and these last couple of days have been a whirlwind and I’ve only just seen your reply! We are moored near bridge 22 on a high embankment, we’re moving down to Aqueduct Marina today to meet friends tomorrow, and then on Wednesday coming back towards this way for a few days, then will head towards Barbridge. Well that’s the plan at the moment, but as you know wot( boating, that could all change lol 😜 Hopefully catch up soon! xx
@ there were restrictions to get down to the towpath from the road by Aquaduct - caused by a car strike. Could/should be fixed by now as I believe the road is open but depends on where they are up to with the work. There are visitor moorings on the mainline for the marina (and a nice cafe!) I believe where you are will be looking down on where Heidi got to last summer when she went exploring from Winsford flash in the GRP cruiser (don’t know if you saw that one)
We’ve managed to get moored up opposite the marina and popped into the cafe today. Will be meeting some friends there tomorrow. Yes we did see that one, but I thought that was when Heidi was on the Weaver? Thanks Alan xx

Hi Julie and Martin that sunrise was beautiful and the music was so nice,
Aww glad you liked it, finding the right music sometimes takes ages, I try to match what’s going on with the tune, it’s lovely to hear that you liked my choice, that means a lot, thank you Elizabeth! xx

Those cows did make me laugh, so glad you enjoyed this one Yvonne, thank you for your lovely comment! xx
Waw looks amazing the views where amazing the man played my wedding song lol the brown dog is lovely take care both of you 👍 x 😊

Aww thank you so much Michael! xx
Hey Julie, awesome work with the time lapse! Enjoyed it 👍🏾
Aww thank you, that sunrise was just stunning! xx
Take care,
Barry xx
Oh what a lovely comment Barry, so pleased you enjoyed the sunrise and sunset, they were beautiful! Thanks Barry, have a lovely weekend! xx
Another great vlog. Love the sunrise 🌅
Aww thank you, that sunrise was stunning, hopefully I’ll do another time lapse when the weather is right. Thank you! xx
Hi Julie and Martin it was a lovely vlog it looks a lovely way life you do great vlogs all the very best 👍
Thank you so much Terrence! xx
OH, that puppy!! Roo is the cutest thing. Looked like a lovely cruise with sweet companions. I do thank you for this lovely escape today.
Aww you’re very welcome Karen, so pleased you enjoyed this one, and little Roo she was definitely the star! Thanks Karen! xx
All we need is to spot the fairies along the misty canal lol
Haha that made us chuckle! 🤭 Glad you enjoyed it Sally, it was a lovely cruise! xx
Your boat always looked so complete until today - now it won't look complete once you leave Nicki behind since it looks the full package when Roo is sat on the cabin roof. She even matches your woodwork.
Tim & Jalika, Malaysia
Haha, love that you thought Roo matched the colour of the wood, that made us chuckle! Thanks Tim & Jalika! xx
Thanks Howard and good luck! xx
great vlog cranking it on cut
Aww thank you Lee! xx
Hi Julie and Martin, hope you are having a great week and also keeping warm, it’s been extremely cold here today. What a fantastic video, the scenery was brilliant. I am already excited for Monday and the extra video. Hope you have a fantastic weekend, love and best wishes

Roo really is cute bless her, so pleased you enjoyed the cruise! xx
Fabulous! What a gorgeous cruise. That sunrise video was wonderful - definitely worth capturing. So lovely to see little Roo enjoying the big outdoors. She really is a cutie. Hope you have a great weekend xx 💕
Hi Mishka, I’m so pleased I tried the time lapse, I’ll definitely be doing it again, but this time will set the camera up off of the boat, so nothing can disturb and there won’t be the wobbly bits lol. Little Roo was such a cutie. Thanks Mishka, have a lovely weekend! xx
The wobbly bits didn't spoil my enjoyment.
Aww thanks Barry xx
Julie. That sunrise was an experience. Celestial view. I had been thinking that you'd found a Teletubby/green rolling hills/fluffy lambs view! 😂 Great vlog. Thank you! 💙
Haha Teletubbies, you’re the second person to say that, we had to look it up lol 😂
But wasn’t it a spectacular sunrise, just stunning!
Really hope this makes sense, thank you Dorothy! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB It does! Thanks. I understand that boats have different drafts so it would be harder for some than others. ❤
Ah yes, a deeper draughted boat can really struggle when the canal is silted up xx
I love your show! Thank You. 💥❤💥
Aww thank you so much! xx
i like the new dog say hi to nikkie from us
Aww yes Roo is cute, she’s a lot bigger now though lol 😜 Will do Derek xx
Hello guys ! Well done on the time lapse; very cool !! Tricking us into thinking you guys got a dog ! 👹
Hi Jerry, lol re the puppy 😜 but yes, think I’ll definitely try that time lapse again when the weather is right, thanks Jerry! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB 💙
Thanks! xx
Wonderful scenery and mooring’s. I was hoping that Roo was your new ship mate, you really need a dog 🐶. Love you two or should it be three 🤣.
Aww Judy, Roo was super cute, but we have no plans for a puppy, well at least for now, never say never though! Thanks Judy! xx
I would love to know where you got the lamps you hang over the guardrail from.
Hope this helps! xx
Will you guys ever get a dog? Roo is adorable!
Roo really is adorable, we have no plans to get a dog at the moment, but never say never! Thanks Laurie xx
Thanks John! xx
Hi Julie
I'm sorry to bother you, but do you know when Narrow Escapes on channel 4 is back on as we are looking forward to seeing you both featured xxx
Aww thank you Jackie 🥰 xx
Hello The Australian Style Brits. Its me again. 4:02 Why is your husband is so proud being under bridge 69? 14:00 They are checking out your boat. They are like, "Hey Bob. Check this out." Even cows get bridges in Britain. 17:09 I think you got a stowaway.
Hiya! Lol, love this comment, made us chuckle! 🤭 Those cows did make us laugh, so funny to see them on the bridge haha and yes, little stowaway Roo, how cute is she bless her! Thank you! xx
I wonder how long it will be before Martin wants a dog 😜
It is lovely up through the Dane Valley Way., the river Dane flows down and through our village.
There are visitor moorings on the mainline for the marina (and a nice cafe!)
I believe where you are will be looking down on where Heidi got to last summer when she went exploring from Winsford flash in the GRP cruiser (don’t know if you saw that one)
We’ve managed to get moored up opposite the marina and popped into the cafe today. Will be meeting some friends there tomorrow. Yes we did see that one, but I thought that was when Heidi was on the Weaver? Thanks Alan xx
Why's that woman talking to me and I'm supposed to be the silly cow 😅😂😅
Only joking Julie 😅
Haha that made me laugh, what am I doing talking to cows lol 😂😂🤣 Thank you! xx
That's not a squirrel it's a rat only Red ones have the right to call themselves a squirrel 🐿
Haha, yes you have a point lol xx
