Would you have given Anakin the rank of Master?

No if i was a jedi master and took on anakin i woudlve taken him away from the order and trained him out in the galaxy somewhere. The chosen one was a unique case the jedi failed him because despite his clear difference to the rest of the padawans and younglings. The galactic capatal also was not a place of light i believe training him away from coruscant wouldve been better. And as an already emotional initiate he needed to trained to channel and manage his emotions, not surpress them. And they shouldve went back for his mother and give her a good life so even if he didnt get to see her often or at all. Anakin wouldn't worry and fear for her. And if anything happened to her the jedi will have done something to help her and anakin wouldnt have reason to resent. He was a special case that was treated as if he were any other jedi. Obi wan knew this too.

Some of y’all don’t understand something. The biggest reason why he flipped out when he wasn’t granted the rank of master was because Jedi masters could access the forbidden section of the library. The forbidden section had countless secret sith and Jedi techniques. Anakin knew this, and wanted to gain entry so he could save Padme. By denying him the rank of master, in Anikan’s mind, the council was signing Padme’s death warrant.

Padme's fate is irrelevant to the argument. The fact is that as a Jedi, Anakin should never have been in that relationship in the first place. When it comes to being a Jedi: Love is fine; attachment is not. The fact that Anakin formed attachments and allowed his fear of loss to influence his judgment is exactly why he was never fit to be a Jedi, let alone a Jedi Master.
The irony is that if he had learned to let go of his fear of losing Padme, and not try to control her fate, he would have taken a monumental step in the right direction to becoming worthy of the rank of Master.

To me, it felt more like the order failed anakin. Yes he didn't deserve that rank at that time, but that's because the order forced him to ignore his problems instead of addressing them. Repressing emotions never work, and if they had just helped him work it out he would have been an amazing jedi. It also doesn't help that they had mace, one of the most sarcastic asses on the planet, to be the one that told him. If obi wan was the one who told, it likely would have ended differently. Someone he trusted explaining it (even if he didn't agree with it, that might have actually helped since it would have shown not everyone was in agreement) rather than someone who he probably hated at that moment. Sure, he might have had doubts here and there, but if the group listens, it will definitely add loyalty to them. Controlled emotions is a lot better than caged emotions (personal experience here).
He was a unique case, they should have addressed it as such. From my understanding they didn't treat him well even at an early age in training. This was something Luke wound up doing at the end of the original. He controlled his anger, and instead of lashing out like his father (which caging emotions would wind up doing) he instead used it to help him combat Vader. He was in control of his emotions the whole time, and showed the value of being a living creature. The order as a whole just fails in the core due to this fact, and if they had been more lenient, found a way to help those with emotions control them, and taught properly anakin probably would have let mace do his thing.

People always forget that the first half of ROTS is Anakin being almost a perfect Jedi.
He saved Obi when he was knocked out despite being ordered to leave him, preached patience when they were trapped in ray shields , shows humility when ObiWan praised his actions. Went to Yoda for advice and council when he was worried about the death he had in his visions.
He was the poster boy for the Jedi order during the war and one of their greatest fighters. And even he didn’t have any expectation of being made a master yet until Palpatine put that idea in his head.
He still had some growing up to do but nearly all of his emotional outbursts in the middle of the film were driven by the fear his wife and children dying during child birth, the insult of being made part of the council but not a master and then have them ask Anakin to go against the Jedi Teachings and work as a spy for the council.
At this point based on his merits, power and disposition I think he was worthy of being a master.

I love Anakin, but I agree. I’m a wholeheartedly defender of the Jedi Order, though I agree that the 1,000 years under the Republic has made them glorified police. The Jedi Order is a religious order of Warrior Monks/Knights, it’s not a life for everyone, which is why there were only 10,000 in a Galaxy of trillions. Anakin simply couldn’t live up to the rules because he as a former slave couldn’t humble himself to serve, which is what the Jedi are meant to do. And, as we see in the expanded universe, we see other Jedi who fell in love (most often with other Jedi) and they either were able to make it work, or they remained friends chose duty. And even Quinlan Vos who also had a brush with the Dark Side and married a non-force user and he chose the light. Anakin simply made his choices and they had consequences for him, the Jedi, and the Galaxy. Excellent video. 👍

While the Jedi Council could have handled things better, and do suffer from being too dogmatic, they were still correct that Anakin wasn't ready for promotion to Jedi Master yet. While the Jedi attachment rule is ridiculous, the fact still is that Anakin's fear of loss, anger and arrogance did indeed obectively speaking carry dangers. If Anakin conquered his fears of loss, got a better handle on his emotions and ego he indeed would have been ready for the rank of master.

  • @calvinstraveldreams
    @calvinstraveldreams 7 дней назад +2

I think this issue of whether Anakin did or did not deserve the rank of Master could have been clarified by a few things, specifically:
    1. Actually mention Ahsoka Tano as Anakin's (former) Padawan and that she DID earn the rank of Knight, but resigned from the order before being knighted. As a general rule if a Jedi Knight is able to mentor a Padawan to Knighthood, that Jedi Knight is given the rank of Master (and have the fact that Ahsoka resigned before being knighted be the loophole that the Jedi use to justify denying Anakin the rank of Master)...given that Ahsoka Tano did not exist at the time Revenge of the Sith was released and was added to the plot of Star Wars RETROACTIVELY, this is where Special Editions/rereleases of Revenge of the Sith COULD help, specifically in that it would be possible to retroactively ADD a scene where that whole drama surrounding Ahsoka's resignation is at least MENTIONED, perhaps even extending the argument between Anakin and Mace Windu to where Anakin MENTIONS that Ahsoka was basically considered ready for Knighthood but left due to being framed and mistreated by the Jedi (INCLUDING Master Windu), only for Windu to coldly shut Anakin down by saying something like "well she quit without being Knighted, so no, you cannot use her brief eligibility for Knighthood to automatically be granted the rank of Master. Take a seat, young Skywalker"
    2. Similarly make it clear WHEN Anakin was knighted, specifically for his expectation of being granted the rank of Master to make sense. The problem with pre-Disney Star Wars' take on Anakin is that there were essentially 3 different implied times of knighting for Anakin, specifically in that most of the EU authors during the time of the Clone Wars Multimedia Project (2003-2005) decided that Anakin was knighted 6 months before Revenge of the Sith, yet the Tartakovsky Clone Wars series implied that Anakin was knighted approximately 4-5 months into the Clone Wars (and thus more than 2.5 years before Revenge of the Sith), specifically right after the Jedi found out about General Grievous at the disastrous Battle of Hypori (judging by what the dialogue of the council meeting before Anakin's knighting implies)---TCW further reinforces this by confirming the date of Anakin's knighting as AT LEAST 2.5 years before Revenge of the Sith. Now if Anakin was knighted a mere 6 months before Revenge of the Sith OF COURSE his anger over NOT being granted the rank of Master would be unreasonable, HOWEVER if he got knighted 2.5-3 YEARS before Revenge of the Sith and had TIME to build his reputation as The Hero With No Fear, then said anger and frustration would be A LOT more understandable, even if misplaced...
    3. Perhaps in order to heighten the tragedy of Anakin's fall to the Dark Side, extend the scene where Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Mace Windu are all talking about Anakin's mission to spy on Palpatine, and have the conversation shift to his outburst and questions of the extent of Anakin's trustworthiness. There I would reveal that ALL 3 Jedi Masters (and really the WHOLE COUNCIL AND MOST OF THE JEDI ORDER) KNOW about Anakin's relationship with Padme, but are playing along with Anakin's belief that he is somehow successfully hiding it by NOT TELLING HIM THAT THEY KNOW. The reason for this is that they want him to come clean about the matter of his relationship with Padme so as to PROVE that he can be trusted, and to that end even plan to GRANT Anakin the rank of Master as soon as he does come clean about said relationship---that and they know that if the Jedi were to confirm that one of their own were in a relationship with Padme (who is not just any Senator but probably one of the most important, with a track record of being a crucial swing vote), it would ruin her reputation, career, and LIFE (we can even include extra lore in the form of the Star Wars equivalent of tabloids surrounding Anakin and Padme's relationship as well as mention of Padme (AND the Jedi, AND Palpatine) spending huge amounts of money on lawsuits against the tabloid press (this even ties into Star Wars' penchant for social commentary on whichever years the films were released in, given the ubiquity of the tabloid press throughout the 2000s))...

The Sith are believed to be long extinct. So what is there to balance? After Episode 3, there are only a few Jedi left, and only a few Sith, that seems much more balanced, except that the Sith now rule the Empire and the Galaxy, at the end of Episode 6, there are still only a few Jedi left, but no more Sith but the galaxy is once again freed from tyranical rule. Maybe if Anakin was more of a sycophant towards the flawed code of the Jedi, they would've promoted him. But since he had a spine, they didn't.
Also, pissing him off then asking him to spy on the Chancellor is such a stupid move. If you're going to have him commit treason, then at least butter him up first. Maybe if they did grant him the Master title, he'd be more eager to commit treason for the Council. Telling him to get screwed then telling him to commit treason literally showed him that the Jedi have no honor.

Well, as the usual qualification for becoming a Master is training a Padawan to Knighthood, and Ahsoka only didn't become a Knight because she left, but WOULD have if she returned to the Order, Anakin DID, in fact, deserve to be a Master. At least in that particular regard.

regardless of the situation at the time in revenge of the sith i say anakin should of been made a master for one simple reason. he successfully trained ahsoka. now i know she left the order but that was a chose she made after what the council did to her along with the republic so she has every right to feel that way plus right before ahsoka rejected the offer to come back the council offered to make her a knight if she remained and one of the ways to reach master status is to train a student to knight hood so if not for a technicality anakin would of gotten the rank before revenge of the sith.

These issues speak more to the fact Anakin should never have been put on the council. So personally all this applies better to the promotion to the council.
Not being given the rank of master is a slap in the face by the entire council minus obiwan from anakins POV, evidenced by the fact he talks to obiwan about it afterwards.
The foolishness of the council is wild, what harm comes from giving Anakin the rank of master before sending him to spy on Palpatine. Think about the timing, anakins trust is shaken from such an unheard situation of being on the council and not being a master, stated when he says this to Palpatine. The council had given him resistance as the perception changed but the Council sealed their own fate with Anakin, if they showed him trust all of this ends with Palpatine’s Defeat in the office building, specially if mace showed trust and brought him along to arrest Palpatine.
Again Palpatine manipulated the situation because the council slapped Anakin earlier this he plays dead and plays the situation to his advantage. If Anakin had been there from the start of the encounter to arrest Palpatine. Mace and Anakin defeat Palpatine easy. Jedi win

I feel people blame Obiwan too much. Qui gon gave Anakin Skywalker the qui gon seal of approval qnd guarantee he is the chosen one. Which affected his teachings. Any other pupil Obiwan is perfect, Obiwan would be perfect for any other Padawan.... But not Anakin.... That doesn't mean Obiwan was a bad teacher. Anakin has a tendency to ignore even jedi wiser then Obiwan. Cut him at least a small amount of slack please??

Anakin deserved the Rank of master 10 fold
Not only due to his abilities , potential & battlefield skill but the man literally walked the walk physically & talked the talk overall in my opinion 🤷🏾‍♂️
The Jedi council treated him like a absolute clown show from day one & they need to bear big responsibility in how he turned out
If I was Anakin & I got denied the Rank of MASTER in that situation I would have up ⬆️ & left the Jedi order right there & then SIMPLE!
The Jedi council showed jealousy , belittling , disrespect & literally sonning him like he was a child in that instance so yeah no thank you …

@@21forevergone The entire problem you are overlooking is not Anakin's maturity alone, but the Council's own ineptitude of handling Anakin.
Obi-Wan went to Anakin in private after the meeting in a scene where he tasked him to spy on the Chancellor himself. Anakin was deeply upset by this having already been frustration with his denial and immediately accuses the jedi council of betraying their morals by spying on an ally and ally of his no less. You are putting to the test a guy who is compromised by the person interfering in the affairs of your organization to spy for you when that goes against your own code? How do you think Anakin will respond to this?
The jedi council was doomed from the very beginning the moment they themselves fail to realize what was truly necessary and allow their own hubris to cloud their judgement. The council may oppress their emotions but they still have them. Anakin may shout them and verbalize his injustices but the Jedi simply acts on them with the same regard but have the audacity to pretend they aren't affected by things like loss and attachments. Yoda wouldn't have felt the need to avenge the entire Jedi order against Palpatine if he was truly "detached" but there he was at his chamber dueling him.
The smartest move was to make Anakin master and guide him directly. The closet way to survey a person and keep them from running loose like he did is to allow them to walk with you. The Jedi failed the politic check Palpatine set for them. I don't think Anakin deserves the rank either but in a very sensitive situation like that you must acquiesce to obtain something greater. Who knows maybe Anakin would have felt "COMMUNION" with the very Jedi order if he was acknowledged.

Nice Video, In my opinion I believe that Anakin does deserve to get the Rank of Jedi Master. I truly believe that if he was a Jedi Master he wouldn't turn to the Darkside and wouldn't go near Palpatine since he would be a Master, I think Anakin truly loved Padmé and would do anything to save her since he didn't know. Anakin would be able to go to the Jedi archives and Learn the secrets and find what he's looking for, so then he wouldn't go to Palpatine as much as he did which was why I think that he didn't get the Master rank. The Jedi didn't trust him and if anyone were in his shoes you'll see his point and I think that Jedi Code and rules are to strict and expect everyone to be like them and that doesn't sit well on anyone, and the Jedi didn't even have therapy for Anakin to help with his emotions and that's completely different from taking younglings from birth and has grown with normal human behaviours and emotions to go to the Jedi and remove of his emotions like its nothing, and expect him to learn this, and this is why some may struggle with basic emotions this isn't healthy for them and the believe this is part of being a Jedi is, and if Jedi had known or learned how to control attachment and emotions which is normal I believe he'll be fine. and if Ahsoka didn't leave the order he would've been a Jedi Master before the event of Revenge Of The Sith. You can say the concil did the right thing of not giving him the Rank of Master but I think Anakin should've gotten the Rank of Master.
and I understand what the video say which have good points to add but I think he deserve it. That's my opinion, my personal opinion and I'd like to hear yours why he think he does or doesnt deserve to be a Master Jedi. 😀😀😀

Had greater skill and power than most of the masters than being denied the rank when he has achieved more then most master have in their entire life. They should of just let anakin have the rank.

And not giving him the rank of master cost them their lives and the lives of the entire galaxy. If they had just given it to him like they were supposed to Anakin would have had no need for Sideous at all because the new rank would have given him access to the restricted section in the Jedi temple and he would have found what he needed for his wife. The Jedi made every wrong choice possible when it came to Anakin and the entire galaxy paid the price for it. Anakin would have never made the decisions that he did if it wasn’t for the foolishness of the Jedi council. Very bad take and an instant dislike for me.

@ Any flaws that Anakin had (which wasn’t even very many during the time of ROTS because he had grown up a lot throughout the war) was nothing compared to all the good that he had done and all the lives he had saved. He was also far more powerful than most of the Jedi in the order. He had more than enough qualifications to be worthy of the rank of master but the Jedi council’s own fear, arrogance, complacency, and assumptions ruined everything because they couldn’t trust in the living force like Qui Gon did. If Adi Gallia could go out in such a weak and embarrassing manner at the hands of Savage Oppress and have the rank of Jedi master then Anakin definitely should. I expect nothing less from an obvious Anakin hater who clearly doesn’t understand anything. Anakin was the freaking hero and poster boy of the republic and won them more battles than any of the other Jedi ever did. Anakin actually genuinely cared about others and their well being while almost all the other Jedi didn’t even give a crap. They would just give some lame and lazy excuse such as it is the will of the force so you should just do nothing and let them die and do not care at all for whatever happens to them or what they may be going through. You’re just as simple and narrow minded as the Jedi council was.
