  • It's one of the world's largest sculptures, featuring the huge carved faces of four American presidents. Every year 2 million people visit the awe-inspiring monument - but how many know the incredible story behind it or its creator?
Danish sculptor John Gutzon Borglum believed American art should be big - and he was determined to make his mark on South Dakota's Black Hills. On 1 October 1925 he rallied the locals, announcing his intentions to carve 160-foot likenesses of the presidents onto the mountain face. From that date until its unveiling in July 1939 Mount Rushmore was his obsession.
A true story that's as bizarre and wonderful as the monument itself, discover the facts behind what some would call a monstrosity - others a masterpiece.
