Even though it's clear from the gameplay that doors close automatically behind you, I keep getting stressed whenever you go in or out of the cat run because we don't actually *see* it closing.
27:40 “don’t push me, I’m trying to give you food” clearly Jon never had a dog before since that’s one of the most accurate thing I’ve seen yet from this game
It's definitely more heartwarming; but the gameplay loop can't help but remind me of the one at the early stages of Prison Architect where you are doing intake and scrambling to do assessment and keep needs under control. The somewhat...spartan...fences and incongruous blue chemical tank in cat-gitmo might be enhancing this impression.
I just wonder how deep it goes. Do we have to put down old or sick animals that we believe no one would adopted? Or what to do when the shelter get full and we still have more animals to take. Could be extremely sad game.
@@justinmalangoni Unless you work at an animal shelter yourself, you're not just a wet blanket, but a hypocrite. Anyway, in one stream Jon can raise enough money for a shelter to pay a dedicated worker for at least a month, if not a year. It's a good trade of effort for results.
"We're just going to let them eat before we take them to the clinic." That's a good way to make sure they end up vomiting on the operating table, Jon. There's a reason they tell you not to eat before surgery.
When i read the title of the video i thought, this will be a very wholesome video, but as i saw the "Expires in" timer i first actually thought that timer shows how much time you have before the animal dies.
So glad most people chip their dogs and cats these days around here. If they get lost and found then it only takes a scan and you know who that animal is. And if you register your pet with a free service (which runs on donations) then you will be notified if it was found
Man, this game is making me nostalgic for all the animal hospital games I'd play as a child. ...One of which I still own, and I don't think ever actually completed the campaign of. Oh, if not for the lack of time and all the *other* games I own...
I myself have two rescue dogs and my heart goes out to anyone who works in an animal shelter, it's quite a hard job! I sure wouldn't have the strength required for it.
24:37: Husky, prefers cold climates (my sister is a dog groomer.) 28:47: Cold? COLD? The cat's vomiting for crying out loud. Only cats and dogs?...sigh.
I've never encountered a shelter that sends an inspector to your house or even interviews anyone looking to adopt, they're usually just happy to free up space and hand the animals over on the spot, no questions asked 🤷🏻♂️
I worked for an animal shelter for around 5yrs. Primarily my role was as an animal carer, but I did also go out and do home inspections sometimes. They weren't done routinely for cats except if we had concerns, but rabbits and guinea pigs always got one to ensure enclosures met the size requirements. I've also rehomed two ponies myself, one from the RSPCA and one from a smaller, local charity. Both did home inspections and then a 6mth follow up visit. I know different charities will have different rules and requirements though.
I couldn't have a job where I take care of cats & ultimately have to let them go cus I bond very quickly & I love my cats like they're my own children since I cannot have any so my emotions for them run that much deeper.
I know it's rather unlikely but I lost my best friend (cat) of 11 years and I was wondering if I could get one named in her honour, I know it's in likely and depends on of your make further content but they say a name still spoken is a name remembered (her name was fizz as she was an utter ball of energy)
this game is coming from a nice idea, but if you think about it, it makes people that are interested in helping animals do it virtually while they could be doing it in real life... i mean... call me a dick for saying this, i understand that, but should charity simulators really exist ? ah yes lemme feel good by pretending to help the world without really doing it. thats like videos of influencers who hire actors pretending to be homeless and "buying" them a bunch of stuff... im not normally a guy just jumping on the hate wagon, but this feels wrong :/
I kinda feel it’d get people into the idea of it without jumping all in from the getgo. Low level entry game to dip your toes in the concept before doing something for real if it interest you
@@taekinuru2 that would really be nice, and i hope it does that for some people, but sadly I think that most people don`t let games influence their actions in real life. i might just be a pessimist here, but it feels like sending "thoughts and prayers" over twitter
It does seem like at least these developers care. Per their Steam page they have donated $10,000 total to shelters that people suggested (with proof). I still see your point, but I hope that helps you feel like more people are not viewing it so flippantly. :)
@@taekinuru2 exactly! Some people think they like the idea, but it's actually a lot of work and maybe this could be a way of making them realize that they might be better of donating money instead of time AND money.
Well one could also offer this for people who are unable to actually help animals, for reasons like a lack of time, a lack of nearby shelters, or perhaps even allergies. Or younger people who can't help at a shelter in the same way (read: children).
Soooo does this game have a PETA mode ... I have to ask since I've played enough of these sim games to be worried about realism. I don't want to be lying to people for donations while killing all the animals.
You mean like what PETA does at their shelter? Don't support a propaganda organization that reports kill rates drastically higher than other shelters in their area. Support a real shelter organization not a publicity stunt that they obviously don't know how to handle.
Even though it's clear from the gameplay that doors close automatically behind you, I keep getting stressed whenever you go in or out of the cat run because we don't actually *see* it closing.
I was doing the EXACT same thing xD
Even if they did show it close cats would still find a way to escape
27:40 “don’t push me, I’m trying to give you food” clearly Jon never had a dog before since that’s one of the most accurate thing I’ve seen yet from this game
And something I have seen living with cats
I immediately got flashbacks to working in the dog shelter, so i'd say this game accurate as hell
Having worked at an animal shelter myself, I can tell you there wasn't remotely enough poop cleaning-up in this game
I'll raise a glass (of water) to that.
As a nurse I feel the exact same way about hospital sims.
“Perhaps the cats are tiny helicopters?” Well of course they are Jon, what do you think the tail is for?
Oh no, perception -1 strikes again. Jon, there's a scroll bar on the adoption match screen which will let you see the best conditions for the pet!
Jon, you HAVE to know that starting a video with "in honor of Tabby, who was..." is going to give all of your viewers a heart attack
Edit: :(
IKR!!! Had to check my pulse there for a second...
Omg I know, I immediately paused the video and checked his community posts to see if anything happened to Tabby :(

I had no problem with it at all

The cats found in the sewer probably need a power wash. Also, the runs are going to need to be mowed. I sense a mondo crossover opportunity.

Taking on a ten-year-old cat is a brave move, especially if you are not made of stone.
As someone who works in a shelter... these barren cat cages are a dystopian hellscape! O.o

Phew, I held off on this video because I thought it would be s bit sad but gladly it’s super wholesome.
I imagine Tabby got a lot of petting after this filming session.
