To anybody watching this in 2020- just bought mine, and they come with a whistle stopper now! Very handy for hobo crafters like me, who get to other tasks and may forget it's on a boil
I have the base KK , Used it for the first time on a wild camp, super impressed by it, mine makes about 6 cups of water. Once you get the hole at the right angle into the wind on the base it blows like a furnace. Stunning stunning piece of kit.
My 600 ml is fine for a solo back packer like me, 6 simultaneous brews might be a bit much even for me....lol I now carry water in the KK as well as pre cut fuel....atb
I love using mine, though it's a much older version, a "volcano". My favourite gadget. 6 pine cones gives me a full boil. Thanks again for the entertaining video
I remember i think it was John from northeastbushcraft who forgot to remove the cork and the kettle popped the cork and scared the hell out of everyone there at the camp, remember never drink and Kelly Kettle lol
Great little video, beautiful landscapes to. Informative video about the Kelly Kettle which as a fisherman I will purchase soon after seeing your sand other “bush craft specialists” recommendations. Thanks.
Thank you for your video . Stunning area you filmed in. I’m an Irish girl from Las Vegas who is going to start the van life and just ordered my Kelly kettle do to watching your video, you sold me on it. . I look forward to watching your channel. TC, stay safe, healthy and happy 😀
Thanx for watching. My sister channel on youtube is all about van life. I am considering buying an Ex-Ambulance and kitting it out for a tour, and/or living in. The kelly kettle is so much fun to use, hope you enjoy using yours ...All the best bex
Dear Bexbugoutsurvivor Sir. Great to see you. May I take a moment of your time to thank you for a sterling film thoroughly enjoyed a great film production by your good self Bexbugoutsurvivor. Good Health. From Craig Lee White
I recall as a kid somebody using a similar New Zealand kettle called a Thermete. Same conical kettle, but an opening at the bottom for the fire so not separate pan.
I think the best way to use the Hobo stove is to split a big log and place it in the base so that its basically a small swedish candle. Then place a load of small tinder around and over it. Light that lot and once your water is boiled the big bits of wood will also be well lit. You can remove the the chimney and have a much longer burn and coals to cook on with the Hobo attachment. This way you can avoid having to keep putting in the little twigs unless its all you have. If you use it with Charcoal then it won't smoke as much and isn't heavy and is a great option in winter. Also the design is good even in rain since the fire is protected by the Chimney!
Hi Bex. I already had the Base Camp version which is great for Me, Mrs and Grandkids. I have just bought the Trekker model for just me and the Mrs, I am very happy with it.
Good day Sir. I just discovered you and your channel and really enjoy it. I'm 56 and you inspire me to get out more and train / hike / camp. Cheers from Canada Mate :)
Its always my pleasure.I am out filming most days, as doing this is part of my rehabilitation, after a spinal injury. Canada looks amazing, your so lucky, I would never be indoors again, with a country like yours. hope you get the chance to look thru some of the recent back catalogue, on this channel, we've had some great days out, All the best...Bex
@@bexbugoutsurvivor Thank you for your reply. I used to train quite heavily with a couple of ex Canadian military folks so I have a lot of great kit (Army and civvie high speed kit). We try to follow the British military standards especially the Special Air Service (SAS) as we believe you folks are the best in the world. I love my Kelly Kettle Bex and am now looking to replace my 20+ year old aluminium version for stainless steel. I also have the Hobo cooker top which is a great addition plus it fits on top of my Ikea hobo stove. A great watch and listen as always. Thank you. Paul :)
Cheers Paul boy, always great to hear from like minded folk. I considered the steel version too, got to admit mine is a summer hiking utility, so would not benefit from the classier set. Hi, quick question; if I understand you correctly you always need the water in the kettle if you want to use it (say for cooking on top of the chimney because apparently no one thinks the hobo stove is any good), even if you do not need hot water at that point in time ?
That is correct. Water must be full at any time the fire bowl is in flame. This is because the heat will crack the welded seems of the inner chimney without water. The hobo stove is pretty naff, but I have heard tale of people drilling extra air holes to aid continuose combustion. I can carry 600 ml in the kettle to camp, and carry a couple of extra water bottles to keep the kettle topped up, if a water sourse is not available.
