The Latin words on Ian's headstone - the translation very roughly is " After enjoying life's pleasant things first : you are now decaying " , its from a book of Roman poetry " called On the Nature of Things " - by a Roman Poet Lucretius
I fancy he was writing about himself as iam sure he was like bond during the war or rather bond is like Fleming was,a gent with an adventurous mind a very polite gentleman.the real James Bond is Ian Fleming.thank you Paul for all the long driving and footwork you do .
Sir Christopher Lee was Ian Flemmings cousin ,he told Ian about scaramanda,of a boy that Christopher Lee was bullied at school by , Ian Flemming added the villain in A Man With A Golden Gun ,in his novel ,and adapted this name for film 🎥🎬 as well Thank you Paul apsolutely fabulous novelist and writer I love his books so much cheers Rod 🎸😎🤘🥁👑
Thank you Paul for another great video. RIP Mr Fleming, a big thank you for bringing us James Bond. Watched every Bond movie, my favourite was Roger Moore in For Your Eyes Only.
Great presentation and research on Ian Fleming. My favourite James Bond was Pierce Brosnan. Such a gent, my mum of 78 loves Sean Connery. What a great memorial monument.
I absolutely agree with you about trying to change everything now about the past. It's becoming ridiculous the extent to how much the 'woke' are becoming. It's appalling.. I mean wither right or wrong History is important and it was what is was and that's how we learn as you rightly put it. To me personally everything just seems upside and petty these days. Thanks Paul for a stellar video once again ❤😊
You should take a look at what Ian Fleming achieved during WW2......a very very brave man indeed. This is someone you would call a hero BTW.....Goldeneye was the name of his house and a WW2 operation.
Right with you, don't change a thing, it's a reflection of how our society has changed! And yes, you absolutely can't miss that one 😂 Very fond of Sean Connery because he was the first one I saw but yes, Pierce was really good
What a beautiful church and so aptly placed. Pity it was closed as I would love to have seen the internal architecture. Thanks Paul for another great video.
What a fabulous place to finally rest and deservingly so. RIP Ian Fleming you brought us all much happiness with your literary works. Many thanks Paul👍
Hi really enjoyed this episode as I am a huge bond fan in 2013 we holidayed in Jamaica where we went to Ian fleming’s house there also we went to a couple of sites where bond films were shot also saw the lan Fleming airport which is small.great channel Paul well presented and well researched.
Sometimes corny , always entertaining, loved all the 007 movies 🍿 R.I.P Ian Fleming ❤ Thanks Paul 👍 p.s the older shot of Pierce Brosnan looks a bit like Rolf Harris 😂
Great video again. I totally agree with you about the past , that was then this is now . Favourite bond Roger Moore I will never forget coming home from school and my dad saying when you've had your tea we at going to see live and let die . Wonder full times indeed .
Great video Paul thank you .. I've been a Fleming book collector for over 30 years and it's great to see where he's at rest . I am down that way in July and may well pay the fella a visit .. when you think half the worlds population has seen at least 1 bond film it's an amazing achievement and a real smack in the eye to all of Anne's friends that thought Fleming couldn't write for toffee .. how many of them do we still read and I can guarantee you their books are nowhere near as valuable as Flemings. We will probably never know what Fleming achieved in the war all hush hush you know.. he also never got any real recognition of he's work. No KBE or OBE like he's brother. I think this is why Bond doesn't take any medals in the books apart from he's CMG which is the same award Daniel Craig has ..
Please everyone Paul is fantastic and wonderful thanks so very very much for sharing this love bond and this man was a genius and legend rip sir Ian Fleming amazing 😍😍😍😍
Your brief encounter with Pierce Brosnan (Sort of ) reminds me of this little tale. This is a true story too. A guy I know was driving along in his car with his g/f and as the were tootling along he spotted a man walking along the pavement who was wearing a bright green checked suit topped off with a bright green hat. He said to his g/f " You know, I bet that guy is Irish!" and with that he pulled up by the side of him, wound the window down and said to him : "Excuse me mate, do you happen to have the time on you, do you?" The guy looked at his watch and said: "Ah well now den let me have a little bit of a look , ah....now, tis quarter to tree so it is" in a very strong Irish accent . The driver thanked him and drove off leaving his g/f totally surprised at what had just happened ,😮 He then looked across at his g/f and said oh so calmly: "There you are, I told you he was Irish." Of course the funniest part was they both were wearing watches and the car had a clock, he just wanted to hear the guy speak. 🤣
Really enjoyed this one thank you Paul Favourite Bond has to be Sean Connery You can see where he got his inspiration for his novels came from during the war A beautiful church & location Thank you once again for a great video 👍🏻
Another great video Paul, very interesting about Ian Fleming, I don't know why but do you find it strange that so many famous people are buried in some of the most remote grave yards.
Fascinating,Paul. Great content and learning so much is wonderful. Ian Fleming died leaving such a legacy behind. We all adore James Bond. Thank you so very much. Kindest regards.
Always felt that he was a successful, wealthy chancer. Could have been a Prime Minister? Great research, detail and presentation as always, Paul. Many thanks
I'm a Roger Moore/Piers Brosnan guy as they are similar in looks regardless of what anyone says. Ian Flemimg knew what he was on when he created Bond... an absolute legacy. Thanks again Paul for a fantastic video.
His holiday/weekend home is right on the beach at St.Margaret's Bay in Kent where he conjured up Moonraker! It's a particularly rugged part of the coastline here in Kent & towering white chalk cliffs loom over it. My other half is a big Bond fan. I thought he would have been buried here in Kent somewhere so was surprised to see his memorial stone in Swindon. x J x
It’s a lovely spot but I be so worried about the cliffs. They then moved onto Bekesbourne but I think his wife wanted more garden. Love the fact he lived next door to John Aspinal and drank with Lord Lucan...
It's a shame Ian didn't take more care of himself and lived longer to see more of his books as Bond movies, he would have been applauded at the Oscars.
The original Casino Royale and also Dr. No were released during his lifetime. Wonder if he saw those and what he thought of them. Although Daniel Craig is probably the closest to the Bond depicted in the books mind you...
@@halfbakedproductions7887 not after spectre and NTTD, he lost his credibility because of those by doing everything that’s the opposite of who bond is. Timothy dalton is really the one who got it right It’s very obvious that he wanted to get out of the role by any means necessary even if that meant killing him off. He’s noticeably much happier playing other roles (especially Benoit blanc in knives out) than he did with bond Also Fleming died in 1964 he only saw dr no and from Russia with love. The casino royale which was a parody and not a canon movie came out in 67
Ian Fleming saw both "Dr No" 1962 and "From Russia With Love" 1963 in cinema and knew about filming of "Goldfinger" and "Thunderball". 2024 is the 60th anniversary of his death.
Looking at your vid, that church looked to have had a beautiful tree lined approach, originally. Got to love a Bond film, especially with Sean Connery. Thanks for letting me come with, again. 🤗
Another brilliant tribute Paul...thanks to Ian Fleming..there have been wonderful films made and I was brought up watching Sean connery with my dad as a kid at the flicks!..got them all on bluray stunning...just 2hrs of pure escapism 😊..beautiful spot for Ian.. cheers again Paul..hammergazz
Good morning Pual, hope you and your family is okay? Wonderful author James bond, what a man too create' James bond will live on along time after we have gone. Ps rest in peace Ian Fleming
Great video as always, I went to the chateau in france where view to a kill was made. Roger Moore was the best bond I thought anyway keep up the great work
I couldn’t imagine a more beautiful, peaceful place to be laid to rest, thanks Paul, very interesting video. Loved the James Bond films but Daniel Craig has to be the best, because his era were the best screenplays. Fleming was a chain smoker and, sadly, he was yet another who ultimately paid the price.
Nice to see his resting place. Live next to his old house in Bekesbourne Canterbury and of course his seafront house in St Margaret’s. He had come back to Kent for his love of golf.
Nice one , Paul . Dear old Swindon , we used to visit there quite a lot when we were stationed at ,RAF Lyneham . Let us not forget his other great work ; Chitty Chitty bang Bang . There is tell , that ,James Bond was based upon , Commander Lionel Crabb , who vanished in Portsmouth Harbour in 1956 . I heard you mention the names of two other place that you have visited ; Henley ( Dusty Springfield ) , and Ripley ,( Connor Clapton ) . The SOE were trained initially in the grounds of what is now The National Motor Museum, Beaulieu. . RIP MR. Fleming .
I don't know what it is but I really like the background music when your telling the people's story. Another great video buddy, have a good one. 👍🇺🇲🗽🏴👍
It has been mentioned that Fleming wrote 'The magical car' which 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' is loosely based. I recently visited with a friend some of the places it was filmed. Russell's Water is just north of Henley on Thames which was used in the pond scene. My friend was taking photos and noticed there were a lot of large fish in the pond and one had taken an interest in us and swam right up to us. We named it Dick Van Pike.
Think my favourite James Bond as to be the great late Sean Connery Brilliant actor and such a legend with his sexy voice ❤️ RIP Ian Fleming and Sean Connery 🙏🌹
Good morning Paul. Just caught up with this one. Amazed how few (visible) graves there are in that churchyard. Anyway, another great video! I’ve never been able to decide exactly who my favourite Bond is. A big fan of Sean and Roger and thought Pierce was great having first seen him in Remington Steele which was a great bit of fun! But every actor has brought his own personality to the character and I’ve enjoyed watching them all. However, if I had to choose a favourite Bond film it would be ‘The Living Daylights’ with Timothy Dalton. Can’t put my finger on why, just find it a great adventurous yarn in the same sort of way as Indiana Jones films are. Keep ‘em coming!
Great video Paul and what a fantastic person Ian Fleming was bringing to life James bond I love bond films and I'm like you I think my favourite bond has to be Roger Moore in fact I only found out about a year ago not far from me on the Norfolk Broads Near potter heigham near Great Yarmouth that Roger Moore owned a windmill in which he stayed there and is now let out as a holiday let and it's set out with all Bond themes I believe plastic crocodiles etc anyway Paul great video
Omg Paul . Like James Bond . You was licensed to thrill lol....another amazing visit. Where u done all the leg work. Must be exhausting? We just laid back and enjoyed it...all respect to you...Ian Fleming. God .if he knew what he created ....incredible imagination...Remember Diamonds are forever. Not just for Christmas..

Oh and Sean Connery and Roger Moore my favourite bond actors
BS ...none of that is happening, not least for copyright reasons. You all have woke on the brain. Grow the f up.
I will come back to watch this by day. It kind of haunts me watching videos about dead people by night.
You should take a look at what Ian Fleming achieved during WW2......a very very brave man indeed.
