Bought one of these after watching this review, after not being satisfied with similar offerings in this category. I've found this thing brings a ton of value vs the other bags. Took it on my holiday travels late last year, been using it for EDC, camping (with an additional duffel), and biking. The daisy chain is a sleeper bit on this bag, for sure. If you don't like stuffing into the mesh pocket, add your own bungie cords for things like jackets or helmets. You can also use them to lash things like climbing/cycling gloves, hand sanitizer, etc. I haven't used the bottom straps much, but they're great for larger items that might not fit inside. Like you described, it doesn't carry like a bulky 30L bag, like the Osprey Tropos or Tom Bihn Synik I've tried out, even though dimensional measurements would show they're very close in size.
How is the Recon's durability? Are the articulated shoulder straps durable? Will these new articulated straps detach from the backpack or the shoulder straps? I am looking for a backpack that will last for some years and the Recon's construction looks attractive to me. The only concern is its durability and load resistance. Any feedback will be very welcome, thanks in advance.
Hi there! Some of our subscribers said that they've owned the original The North Face Recon Backpack for 4, 6 years, and even longer. The new edition is no exception as it's constructed with durable materials. You can be certain that durability/longevity is one of the aspects they've considered, so you'll get your money’s worth. Cheers!
I have 2022 camo and I hate the thin straps. Finger loops are all off, no hip pockets. 1 big not so big compartment. The front stretch isint large enough, and they didint add stretch to water bottle side pouches. Once bag is stuffed never getting a solid hard bottle in..Only thing I like is the look haha
I have the 2 models before this one, I do wish I had the bottom straps, and that new stretch mesh on the back.. I also have the borealis backpacks as well, I like that one for the bungee cords to hold my jacket.
This is the first one I've felt and I thought it was decent. Others have commented this one doesn't feel as good. There are many bags out there to explore and enjoy, I hope you find something you like - Roland
What I don’t like this backpack is the bottom design is not flat. Today is the first day I used this backpack. But the good is that I can add a bungee cord on it. This is what I like because both the new Borealis and Jester bungee are not replaceable. With the daisy chain, I can remove or add the bungee cord to it anytime I want. ruclips.net/video/aQx-7btg1As/видео.html
Is the 11 inch table tfit really that bad? Why was it cumbersome? This appears to be the perfect bag except for the fact you're saying 11 inch won't fit.... which is very unfortunate.. can you elaborate on how it fits?
The North Face Recon Backpack has a 15" laptop compartment that is designed to fit most laptops up to 15". This compartment may be too large to securely fit an 11" tablet, which is considerably smaller than a typical 15" laptop. This can result in the tablet moving around and potentially getting damaged during transport. Additionally, some users have reported that the North Face Recon Backpack can be cumbersome to carry, especially when fully loaded. This could be due to the design of the backpack or the weight distribution, which may not be optimized for carrying smaller items like tablets. If you are looking for a backpack that can securely fit an 11" tablet, you may want to consider a backpack with a smaller laptop compartment or a dedicated tablet sleeve. You can also check out reviews and specifications to see if the backpack is designed for comfortable carrying, especially if you plan to use it for extended periods of time.
Bought this two days ago and your review helps my decision. My previous backpack is camel active which i use everyday for 10 solid years so i kinda have a high expectation for this backpack. Hopes this backpack meets my high standard😅
Unfortunately, this bag was just too big/fat when packed....when not packed it crumbles at the waist, especially for everyday carry. It is nicely made and fairly comfy. But I returned it and got the Gregory Rhune 20...which is a very excellent design and perfect.
The North Face Recon Laptop Backpack has proven to be highly durable due to its construction from robust materials. It is made with a 420D Nylon body and reinforced with 1680D Ballistic Nylon at the base, ensuring it withstands daily wear and tear as well as drop impacts. The durability is further enhanced by features like a padded, fleece-lined laptop sleeve, and the FlexVent suspension system, which provides significant support and comfort, making it suitable for heavy loads and long-term use. Additionally, the bag includes reflective detailing and a bike attachment loop, adding to its rugged and practical design.
No offense but this felt more like an advertisement than a review. This one and the Surge carry less than other 30 liter backpacks since they don't expand as much. Also this pack doesn't have ballistic nylon anywhere, neither the exterior material is 420D nylon, it would have been more responsible if you just said "I don't know the materials" instead. Honestly the bag feels cheap compared with previous models to the point where it doesn't makes me feel comfortable loading too much weight on it because the seams feel like they're coming apart. Just my 2 cents. Cheers!.-
@@RushfasterTV :) Thank you for your reply Roland. It's hard to express tone through written messages since I'm not a native speaker, just wanted to clarify that my intention wasn't to trash on the review or being disrespectful but to give feedback, and maybe a second point of view coming from someone who owns and has owned TNF packs in the past. Cheers!.- PS: I liked my latest series too.
It's a shame when a favorite color gets discontinued. It seems TNF has shifted their focus to brighter hues lately. Change can be disappointing sometimes:)

Hello, we greatly appreciate your review. This is very detailed and helpful. Glad you liked the bag. Have a good one! Cheers
Is the “thyme” colour that you described at the start of the video the “Thyme Light Heather/Thyme” described on website

You can add a bungee cord manually on the North Face Recon.

Are the shoulder straps less substantial than previous 2 versions. I had the 2016 model loved it, but was stolen and I’m looking to get another one.

Can you take out those hip straps?
You hit every note. Would have been nice if you'd actually SHOW the ipad going into that sleeve area. Thanks for the review.

is it heavy? can you run comfortably with it?
The bag itself is around 1210g. The updated FlexVent shoulder straps should help alleviate strain from your back and and neck. Cheers!
Hi, when was this backpack released?
Last year (2021)
This color just released again in Moosejaw. They also offer 30% reward.
They also have new Shady Blue and Cone Orange color available.
Could you actually fit a skateboard on the bottom there or was that a joke??
I didn’t try, but I think you could - Roland
Which color is that?
Thyme.

So, the reason the bag can stand on its own is because of the bulky jacket you stuffed into the bottom of the bag…
Gotta put something in there - Roland
that's a great color. too bad TNF doesn't make it anymore. just a bunch of ridiculous patels now. TNF, what have you become!
