Mike, I feel your pain. I have a ten acres pond in my woods and I built a pavilion next to it. After cutting back the limbs on the trail to the pond and pavilion I sat down to enjoy the sunset. Once I got back to the house I realized I had forgotten tools I used cutting the limbs but I was late for a gathering of friends. It was late so I told myself I'll get them in the morning. Four days later I realized what I had done and went to get my tools. Not there, someone had come onto my property and found them and decided they needed them more than I did. Keep up the great work and God bless you and your family.
Just a little “food” for thought ;-). Research has shown that deer, given nearly any other option, will eat those other options long before rye grass. Sure, deer will show up in the plot, but they are either starved or finding other plants in there to browse on. Increase the attractiveness of your plots with some Buck forage oats or winter wheat. Rye grass is sold in deer blends for the exact reason you stated; they green up quickly. Maybe plant another plot for comparison. I helped with a research plot as an undergrad, and the difference was amazing. Good luck this deer season, and thanks for the videos!
Scott you got that right! I used to plant that crap back years ago and then I did a little research and found the same to be true. I no longer plant rye grass ever, it is crap for deer. I only plant oats and wheat and the deer eat it like crazy. It is amazing the difference. Also, this past spring for the first time I planted durana clover and man did the deer ever eat it up. I have videos of them gulping it down! I have never seen anything like it before. So I fully agree with your comment. The reason seed blends use rye is because it's a cheap "filler" that greens up quickly.
The worst part of rye grass is trying to get rid of it. It is tough to kill and will smother out subsequent seedings of better deer feed. Winter rye is better than rye grass.

After losing many tools in fields, I’ve started painting anything that rides in the tractor a bright neon color. Painted case or handle wrapped with bright electric tape might be enough to help find dropped items
Looking good folks, as a farmer I also enjoy the smell of tilled soil most of things mentioned, how about popcorn, freshly cut alfalfa, diesel burning in the morning of course wood smoke. Sorry for your loss Mike can't think of a nicer place to loose

Melissa, every time you folks dig in the soil at your home I wish I had your earth. Here in Rockland County, NY one cannot put a shovel in the ground without hitting a hubbla that's about 12" or more in diameter! Gardening is a challenge as is digging post holes or anything else one would do to build stuff. Oh Mike I'd like to put in an order for a bushel of cameras when you harvest I think I've got a good market for farm fresh cameras....;) Great video guys keep up the good work, you are so good together!
I see that every time I drive through that area. I lived in Westchester which wasn't much better. Now I live upstate and have awesome soil, but still the occasional rock to throw in the pile.

You need to cultipack that seed for best results!!! If you don’t have a cultipacker, then just lightly disc it to cover it and you will notice huge difference in Quality & Production of your rue grass.
Interesting to see you smell and appreciate your soil. Every time I watch your videos and see that beautiful soil and gentle rolling hills, it makes me a bit envious as I compare it to the thin rocky soil in so many other parts of the world, such as much of east, central, and northern Ontario (I’m in eastern Ontario) where the glaciation scraped most of the soil down to rock to create “the Canadian Shield”. While the Shield has its merits - particularly the rocky rugged beauty and countless lakes - rich thick soil is definitely not one if it’s features!
We live about 2.5 hours east of you. Strange how this summer played out. Up until April we had rain every 3 days or so. Since then maybe 3 or 4 showers. Grass is too dry to mow without fear of turning brown. Love the Videos.

Mike: Idea.. If you have an expensive piece of 'gear,' attach a strap to item, then, place a steel disk thru the item's strap (hole in steel disk). Then, get a powerful magnet. Attach magnet to ferrous metal spot on vehicle. Attach disk to magnet. Save money by not losing expensive gear.. hope your unit turns up....I HATE TO LOSE STUFF....I feel for you, tryin' so hard to make great videos....it is not easy!!!! Never give in!!!!!!!

Grew up in Beaver County, I've lived in Shade Gap, PA, the upstate of South Carolina, OBX, and New Jersey and NOTHING smells as good as the dirt in Western PA..although living 2 blocks from the Atlantic Ocean can smell so great. I even missed the 17 year locusts.

Mike; It would not hurt to find a 4-6"" tree and cut a length about 10' long. Attach a strap or chain out by ends and attach the center to the drawbar of your tractor and drag it over the seeded ground. It will work the seeds into the ground just a bit so you have soil-seed contact and the birds won't carry all the seed away. The drag will also smoothen and firm the soil .Just an old farmers trick. ---------------Loren

I had a farmer friend that lost his dentures while tilling. The only thing I could think of to console him was that I would take him down to the funeral home to get another set. LOL
I would look for the camera near were you were using the hooks because their going up and down could have given the camera enough momentum to bounce out of the cup holder on the tractor.
#MikeMorgan I was going to suggest just this. You could go as far as using a cheap pto pump and hose on it with 2 totes plumbed to together as waterer/burn pile safety/firework safety equipment.
i learned my lesson the hard way about putting things in the cup holder. its for cups or bottles only. i've lost many tools that i put in that cup holder. And most, i've never found.
You planted your camera so you should have a whole field of new ones. Right. Lol

I guess Rockland and Westchester are in the glacial drop zone, which is why we have so many rocks.
