    Use dental floss under the screen to get through the glue so you are not prying up on the LCD to limit the risk of damaging your lcd.

    If you have cracks on the screen, it is better to apply the duct tape on the screen before taking it off, then you don't need to worry about scattering the glass around.
    Thanks for posting this video!

    good idea to TEST digitzer and LCD before you close it.

    Thanks for the video. Most informative I found and the suction cup method is, without a doubt, the best way to get the removal started. Everyone else recommended a razor blade which will scratch the finish if you're not EXTREMELY careful. Appreciate all the time you put into this.

    Thanks for your great video. With your help I successfully replaced the flickering LCD on my daughter's Ipad mini. I replaced the screen at the same time because I was expecting to break it when removing it. Very pleased that I managed to remove without damaging the screen so I now have a spare one.
    By the way I used the suction pad from my Go pro suction cup mount. It is so powerful I could have pulled the screen off without the use of a blade.
    For those of you who are asking about how much heat to use, the glue becomes soft when it is a bit higher than body temperature. Keep that heat gun on there for too long and you may well destroy the other components inside, particularly the lithium battery!

    Thanks for the video. Wish I had seen this one before fixing my 1st mini--really easy to crack and/or overeat/discolor the LCD screen if you are not careful loosening the glue. This method is one of the better for getting digitizer safely separated.

  • @peterislazy
    @peterislazy 11 лет назад +1

    Hey just a quick tip, when you have both the lcd and glass tilted over, instead of holding it the whole time you can place a suction cup behind the glass and have it rest on it.

    I found that before disconnecting the LCD connector the battery connector should be removed. Otherwise you run the risk of damaging the backlight fuse. Wish he would have mentioned that.

      Kevin Finucane your supposed to turn off the device, and disconnect the battery first. But ive never had an issue with any iphone or ipad ive fixed where disconnecting the battery last (on accident) . The thing is if there is dust in those connectors, or anything, it can make a connection fail (which has happened for me on my 5s, the screen would turn in but the digitizer cable although in wouldnt work b/c of dust
      Just check and make sure.

    The very important step is after connecting the new digitizer and LCD , it is required to check if both are working good and then you can go ahead to close it completely otherwise if the digitizer is faulty or LCD is not good, the iPad is still open to replace them without re-open again and you still have chance to return the faulty digitizer or LCD to your vendor!

    One important part that's missing is the magnets. There are two magnets on the digitizer. The new one from ebay usually does not come with them. If you don't notice, you will not be able to use the smartcover. I missed and threw them away with the broken digitizer. Only after I put on the smartcover, I realized.

    Congratulations on your newly found fortune :)
    First thing is to make sure the iPad is charged, it should display signs of life when the charger is connected.
    If that doesn't help, then full tear down and careful inspection of ALL possible damage can net you some results.
    Overall we'd rate such a project as "If you got nothing better to do" :)

  • @Laptopscreen
    @Laptopscreen  11 лет назад +1

    LaptopScreen doesn't provide mail-in repairs yet.
    However iPad Mini, as seen above, is not the most difficult repair imaginable, we'd rate the difficulty (on a professional scale) as 5/10: using appropriate tools and plenty of patience, a first time repairer should complete the job in under an hour.
    As well we now sell direct-drop-in iPad Mini parts (no soldering required)

  • @Marko-xc4vn
    @Marko-xc4vn 4 года назад +2

    📍IMPORTANT📍make sure you unplug the battery (even if you powered down the device) before you disconnect the digitizer and LCD or you will screw up the LCD backlight because the voltage change will blow the backlight fuse

    Great video and well made, Apple sure know how to make them with of screws in the way.
    I thing there inner construction for the layout on the assembly is a bit primitive, but I guess the better resources in design layout got put more towards the circuitry, OS and outer look of the device (iPad, iPhone etc:::

  • @Laptopscreen
    @Laptopscreen  11 лет назад +1

    True the mid-shield with all these screws is a little inconvenient,
    however we have to point out, that with such shielding iPad mini could potentially survive EMP or solar flares in a cataclysmic event ;)

Thats the hardest part you will come across..Also before you do this.. LOOK UP IPAD MINI SCREW CHART..Its a magnetic chart bigger than the ipad so you can place the screws on the chart that have the exact screw placements labeled.

    Partially Fair note. Metal tools can be used to scratch paint off the glass surfaces.
    However, please keep in perspective that this video is geared towards people with already broken digitizers, and paint condition will matter only for the "curios" disassemblers with digitizers intact.
    Also, the effectiveness of the tool is in the power of the beholder, and in this video it is used with-out scratching the paint.
    Cheers!

    Actually, to clarify,
    the support guy (myself) informed the customer that
    the video was created prior to any replacement parts being available (just as the mini came out), and there was no way of foreseeing the issue.
    We have not had a chance to get any hands-on experience with iPad mini since the video was created,
    but our customers were able to navigate the issue at a success rate of 9 out of 10.
    Appropriate annotations have been placed in the appropriate moment in the video.

    Hi there, it should be fairly obvious if the LCD is damaged - black "ink" stains, straight vertical lines, etc.
    If only the glass is broken the picture should be fine, except for the cracks overlaid from the glass.
    The $46.99 is the actual LCD (not a touchscreen), glass IS the touchscreen (digitizer), so if the picture doesn't show black "ink" then only glass needs to be replaced.

    Fuck, my friend hit my iPad mini out of my hand by accident and the whole screen smashed badly. Then my parents repaired it for Christmas. Now my dog was eating a Kleenex and I put my iPad on a counter and ran over to get it out of his mouth. It fell down and smashed again. My parents aren't home from work yet. Omfg I'm so nervous.

    • @Laptopscreen
      @Laptopscreen  8 лет назад +12

      +TheFlamingArrow You could tell them that the dog was casually eating its daily fill of Kleenex when you sneezed and got into a little scuffle over the last of the Kleenex. You won the scuffle, but the vindictive canine, unsatisfied with its forcefully diminished portion of daily fiber, proceeded to take out its revenge on the unsuspecting iPad. It knew full well that doing so would put you in a precarious position, since the iPad was previously repaired at great cost; but choose to execute its revenge with cold-calculation and malicious intent to cause you the most grief.
      Or you can tell them the truth and that you can now repair the iPad on your own, and that the parts cost less than $30, but the experience and the satisfaction of fixing the device you own by yourself - is priceless!

I can hear a beep when connecting the power cable, but no other sights or sounds. Screen looks good. I slightly opened and tried to dry it out with some hair blower heat. I have new screen and digitizer but am beginning to feel the problem is probably the lcd. I can and have backed it up on my mac. Questions: 1. does it sound like the lcd? 2. Will I also need to replace the screen? 3. How can I tell if it is powered on or off before I start?

    Hi, before ios 7 comes out, I want to be replace my ipad mini. Replacing an entirely new ipad sounds great, but its also really expensive. Then I found this video, and realized it is a lot cheaper, but it definitely looks risky. Incase i ever do think about doing this, can you give me any advice of doing this right so I won't risk breaking my ipad. How often do you think people watch this and get it right without breaking their devices without experience of practicing these steps?

    and what if someone drops their magnets???
    from the corners...hmmm SORRY FOR THE CAPS. MOST OF THESE REPLACEMENT SCREENS DONT COME WITH MAGNETS...they are wake/sleep sensors....compass might be affected also..

    Each time I try to affix the new screen to the tablet, its upper right and lower left sides pop up after a few hours, despite having more adhesive strips to keep them down, and I keep heating them and putting them weight to apply pressure and allow the adhesive to set in place. What am I doing wrong?

      You could try to clean the adhering edges with alcohol. Clean both the inside of the iPad and the back of the digitizer. Clean it very thoroughly. Make sure all previous adhesive residue is removed and that the edges are dry and oil-free.
