Graphics still look pretty good, especially considering just a couple years earlier most of these games made do with only 16 colors. Gotta remember most of us had 14" monitors with even less in viewable area. Admittedly your plane is modeled quite a bit better than the ground vehicles.
AoE was the very first flight sim I purchased when I started PC gaming, back in mid-90's. This was the very game that turned me into a virtual war pilot for good. Needless to say this video brought me straight back to Memory Lane. 🤤
This is my all time favorite! I bonded with a guy over this game and it turned into a 20 year friendship and we are like brothers now and it was in part due to this game. I still remember picking it up off the walmart shelf and thinking, this looks cool. What an understatement. The historical info and the games AI and campaigns really makes this a great one.
Try to explain to kids nowadays we only had 1 or 2 Mb memory and no dedicated graphics card. My harddrive was 85 Megabytes and that was considered big. Then again Colonization took up 5 Mb but I could run that from CD Rom.
Hmm. I once played the Me 262 VS Allied fighter bombers attacking the German radar station over & over again for 17 hours nonstop. I knew I was in trouble when I thought to myself "This has been the best day of my life." I haven't played games since.
This game informed so much of my personality and interests. Got me into airplanes, history, model making, so much more. What would I be like if I never played this as a little kid? Who knows. Amazing to see how it looks now - this is a prime case of a game that you remember looking and feeling so real.
Oh man, I used to play the crap out of this and Aces Of The Pacific. Come to think of it most of my games back then were flight simulators. X-Wing, TIE Fighter, a couple of Wing Commander games and two different Microsoft Flight Simulators.
I still play this game very often. I never encouter any other WW2 aircraft game with an AI that can beat this one. They now cheat AI with cheap tricks like following ammos or just make the game multi player. And the campain mode! That's the best ever! You can be capture at the second mission and finish the game in the shame! That was the time when game were teaching you lessons...
I remember how proud I was when I earned the Medal of Honor after playing this game a ton back then, some of those flights just to get to the target could take so long, but it was a very good game and added to the suspense when you'd actually get into engagement, the of course the flight back. Choosing your armament. My favorite to fly in was the P47D-Thunderbolt.
I remember having to sit and wait for my mom in her Dr appointments and I would stare out the window imagining dogfighting in this game. I annoyed my friend in school too because I wouldn't shut up about it lol. The bomber intercept missions are still some of my favorite.
had this game about 22 years ago. but don't know what happened to it. complicated but fun. I'll have to buy this again on Amazon. been playing SWOTL on my ancient Windows 98 machine and having great memories of playing SWOTL since I bought it 25 years ago. graphics were impressive then. I'll keep playing SWOTL and when I get Aces, off and on till I die or the computer dies; which ever comes first😀
This was awesome! First game I ever bought. I remember it having a great big manual with lots of background information on war events, pilots and planes. The only moans I had about the game is you couldn't hit the wings of the planes.
I played this to the point where I was insanely good. I remember being able to reliably down 7 heavy bombers with one rocket salvo from my Me-262. I also remember I used to make my own 'custom' missions. I'd fly a Mosquito and put myself against something like 16 me-262s. Was so much fun.
Let me guess... I bet you used the same trick as me: skid your 262 with the rudder while firing, so as your R4M salvo would rake the whole bomber formation and get multiple kills? Amirite? 😊
I think I remember shooting down Galland in a Tempest. Another time I certainly downed P Clostermann, perhaps I was in a Me 262 or a FW 190. I loved that game to bits! The tweaking of the old MSDOS; this was my first game with SoundBlaster, oh youth.
Me 262 VS B24s. When firing R4M rockets kick the rudder and make a wide spread across the B24 formation. That kills about 50% of the bombers. Finish off the rest with 30mm cannons after climbing high and zooming through the formation as often as needed. 100% kill with no damage to Me 262 almost every time.
Gosh... I did exactly the same, I remember spreading the R4M rockets the same way and thinking "This is a piece of cake!"... and then there were these funny mortars that you loaded on the Fw 190 and Me 109's, they were really awkward to aim at the bomber formation but also had a nice effect! :-) ...
I loved this game. You could put 8 20mm cannons on the fw 190. It was the first combat sim game that had a half decent flight model. You could g stall. I really liked going after trains.
This one was way ahead of it's time...still haven't found another like it. Is Il-2 Sturmovik worth checking out for fans of this? Still never got around to trying it.
Seemed like this sim was harder to fly than Aces of the Pacific...but still play it time to time..watch out for Adolph Galland..a hun out of the sun as they use to say.
Played aces of the pacific waaay back.. I had a hard time launching torpedo attacks... I just could not get the right speed and altitude for the torpedo bomber
The accuracy of the enemy gunners was always way op; even with the fast 262 I hated those intercept missions, and tactics such as BnZ never worked out properly, also those huge packs always dropped the fps insanely, even on a 486 cpu with 33 MhZ. But besides of that the game was great!
These.were the days, played this for hours
Remember how much cooler your memories of these games are. In my memories of this game the graphics were much better lol
I know right? I remember it way different. still awesome
ya this game was amazing back in the day! I would kill myself if i had to play it today.
The graphics probably did look a bit better on your old CRT screen actually since that's they way it was meant to be viewed.
It was a second resolution mode called "tall" that doubles the resolution, but you needed at least one meg of graphics memory to run it.
Graphics still look pretty good, especially considering just a couple years earlier most of these games made do with only 16 colors. Gotta remember most of us had 14" monitors with even less in viewable area. Admittedly your plane is modeled quite a bit better than the ground vehicles.

I used to have Aces of the Pacific, the predecessor to this game. Played it a lot!

Jason Elliott nice to hear that :) ! keep it real :)
Hell yeah
The strange harmonic sounds of the planes have been engraved in my memory since I was a little kid

Good thing you stayed off the sauce

This brings up sweet memories of my childhood! I wish it to be available on STEAM.

My God this brings back memories. I was 14 or 15 years old when we got this! The graphics seemed so much better back then. Haha
The best WW2 sim from the DOS era.
Used to scramble in my fw 190. Achtung spit-feuer!
I remember how proud I was when I earned the Medal of Honor after playing this game a ton back then, some of those flights just to get to the target could take so long, but it was a very good game and added to the suspense when you'd actually get into engagement, the of course the flight back. There was auto pilot to auto skip the flight there
Ooh, another P-47 fanboy? I can blame you for nothing except having good tastes. 😁
I remember downloading a patch that repositioned the smoke and fire from the tail to the engine. It made it much more realistic.
And that is called Nostalgia.
I played this for a few hundred hours 😅
Wow brings back some memories. I have learned a great deal about aviation and history from this game. It came with an excellent manual.
I remember having to sit and wait for my mom in her Dr appointments and I would stare out the window imagining dogfighting in this game. I annoyed my friend in school too because I wouldn't shut up about it lol. The bomber intercept missions are still some of my favorite.

I loved this game! Use to love to watch the replays after battles.
Oh man, MAJOR nostalgia moment. Thank you for posting!

Enjoyed this game for hours, best flight simulator I experienced at the time
Wow....does this bring me back. Many late nights flying.
the game and Duke Nukem 3D got me away from my SNES and really into PC gaming back in the day... man the nostalgia!
piece of cake..
I think I remember shooting down Galland in a Tempest. Another time I certainly downed P Clostermann, perhaps I was in a Me 262 or a FW 190. I loved that game to bits! The tweaking of the old MSDOS; this was my first game with SoundBlaster, oh youth.
I grew up on this game... and F-117 Stealth Fighter. Good times.
I dread to think how many hours I played this. So many great planes to fly and careers to do. Only Il2 really came close a decade later.
@@briansharritts2688 In terms of long campaigns progressing through aircraft and sheer number of aircraft to fly I think so.
This game was groundbreaking back in the day. I remember it feeling so real.
Damn right it felt real.
I would very much want this to be on Steam for DosBox.
I bought this on the day it was released. I got hooked on SWOTL, Red Baron and AOTP
This game had also hi-res version, 640x480, but my video card couldn't handle it well.
The R4M rockets against the bomber streams were devastating.

I swear when I played this game in the 90s the graphics were so much better.
This is fine, you just experienced regular nostalgia. 😋
In that first bridge, you very clearly missed it! Hax!
Another great gameplay video - excellent use of camera angles.
Sierral hotel sim back in the day. Thanks for this blast from the past!
one of the most indepth flight simulators ever
played that game non stop. I dont know how it was possible with that sound))
how did I ever think this was perfectly awesome graphics...
1993
i was thinking the exact same thing as I watched this. I used to think this looked pretty much exactly like real life.
I have this installed on Linux Mint and play it via Dosbox using the DBGL front End. Works well.
Flew to Berlin in real time, unlimited bombs & fuel, bombed Berlin. 10/10 would bomb again. I loved this game!
oh man......the memories
I love those old games. I wish I had a computer that I could play it on.
This one was way ahead of it's time...still haven't found another like it. Is Il-2 Sturmovik worth checking out for fans of this? Still never got around to trying it.
Il-2 is definitely worth the purchase. Also, check out Rise of Flight if you're interested in the Great War. Both are super-solid games!
Looks like you have the graphics set way lower than I had it. It could be played in SVGA. This is just VGA.
Best amig500 realistic simulator..nice

I worked out a strategy to knock down every B-24 with an Me 262 and never receive a hit.
You can do it easily with unlimited ammo. You can stay out of range of their guns and bring them down with your cannons. Kinda cheap though.
ChernobylPizza I did it by using only the standard settings, no cheats.
Aces of pacific and this game
Super game
Fighter Ace was never as good!
DEM GRAPHICS XDD
A furry told me about the game on Discord. So, I've downloaded the game! :D
a good game for it time i played hell of it
아주 좋은 게임 👍
Ctrl+F11 Slow game
Ctrl+F12 Fast game
Make it wheen you play
Sorry for my bad english(im from Poland)
u have it, dosbox with d-fend it a key
no that was some b-17! :)
it had potential but scramble bug ruined it to me.
Will this game work with Windows 10?
You need to use DOSBOX to play this game on Win 10
oups, sorry, didnt watch till the end, that was b-24! XD
awesome game and video but this pilot has no clue how to attack bombers properly... lol!
what i have wasted time in this game............................
