    Downloaded the trial version for FCP that was supposed to have full functionality. Installed it, dragged it onto a clip, opened the menu and tried to select the source camera. The moment I did it I got an error message. Then FCP crashed. Reopened everything, tried it once again, this time it didn't even let me open the menu. Closed FCP, found the little bugger in the Library, moved it to the trash. End of story, won't bother again.

    Been looking for a video like this, as I'm shooting a wedding with the BMPCC6K and Sony A7siii, and am worried about matching color, especially because you have to expose each camera differently for maximum dynamic range. Do you think matching them is doable?
    Do you know if, in order to match the A7siii to the BMPCC6k in Cinematch or via CST, I'd have to expose the Sony as if it was a Blackmagic? As in, with the Sony you have to expose +2 stops over for maximum DR, which is different from the Blackmagic. Or does this not matter once you get to Cinematch?
    Thanks so much!

      Great question! Honestly I would just expose each camera how you would normally and worry about matching exposure in post. What matters most is getting clean footage and maximizing the dynamic range, especially in this case, exposure matching can happen later in post.

    I'm editing on 8gb ram macbook will it still work

    • @ConnorGilks
      @ConnorGilks  3 года назад +2

      It should! With low RAM your best bet it to make sure Premiere is the only program running to prevent hitting the limit and causing crashes/bottlenecks.

      yes, the plugin has been updated to run natively on the M1 Macs, so will take advantage of Metal GPU acceleration if available. If you're editing heavily-compressed footage, you may still need to create optimized media in order to get the best performance

    I guess the only limitation is if one of the cameras didn't shoot in Log... Cant see how it works in that situation. I.e. bmpcc6k in braw matching to Canon C100 mk 1 not shot in log. Any ideas?

    • @ConnorGilks
      @ConnorGilks  2 года назад +1

      That is true, but only limits you in terms of the profile matching. You can still use any of the other tools or techniques shown here to match things manually. Your best bet would be to get both cameras into the REC709 color space (you can use CineMatch on the BRAW for that), and then perform your matching adjustments from there. I’m not familiar with C100’s video output, but if it’s not as flexible as BRAW then I would correct BRAW to the Canon colors instead of vice versa. From there you can do whatever grade you want on top.

      What a revelation! Great explanation - what about matching a Sony a7Siii shooting in a standard picture profile (no S log) and a Panasonic G9 M4-3 camera. Still able to do a good job matching that? Sorry not an S-log guy….

    If it takes SECONDS then why does it take 17 minutes to show how to do it?

      Hey Scott! Several reasons:
      - I don't like just recording my screen and calling that a "tutorial". I try my best to get viewers to understand WHY they are doing things, HOW these things work, what their OPTIONS are, the DIFFERENCES between those options etc. I prefer to convey a complete understanding of a topic over shortcutting my way through things. That's how I prefer to learn, and that's how I prefer to teach.
      - I cover way more than just the operation of the plugin, I think it's important to talk about why someone would even want to use this plugin instead of doing things a different way, for example.
      - I'm giving my thoughts on whether or not this is worth your money. What features I like, which ones I dislike, who I think would benefit from this and who wouldn't.
      - We're covering potential issues a user might run into such as bugs and glitches.
      - Finally, as with everything you learn in life, learning/teaching takes longer than doing. Fixing white balance in post probably takes you seconds now, while learning how to do it for the very first time probably took significantly longer. This isn't a race, it's a tutorial and explanation.
      If you just want to see someone speed-run their way through a plugin, that's cool too I guess. Personally, I'm going to focus on trying to deliver a thorough education and help viewers make the choice that's right for them.
