Jai thanks a lot for this upload. I truly love 78 rpm records. I have been collecting 78 rpm records since early 70's. The titles I have, besides HMV, are from The Twin, Young India, Columbia, New Theater's, Radio, Nishat, Hindustan, Jien-o-Phone and Megaphone records which dates back to 1930s and are in excellent shape. Nishat records pressed some 8 inches also. The sound quality on these shellac discs is un-paralleled. However, I noticed the sound quality on HMV records from Hindi films such as Aan, Kismat, Shahnai, Man Ki Mauj etc etc, pressed in UK for the RCA, is quite inferior to the 78s pressed in Dum Dum factory in India.
Sir aap ke knowledge ko mera naman hai aap ka gramophone records ke bare me jabardast study hai again namaskar ,aap ke collection bhe jabardast hai so very thanks
Very nicely presented 👍..just wanted to add.. when PVC replaced Shellac..it was then mainly promoted as a new revolutionary material that makes record ‘unbreakable’.
Excellent information ! Only 45 RPM 12 inch records left out in your video. But overall it was really informative video. I have SILSILA SP with two songs superb recording but the same song on SILSILA "Rang Barse" the effect is missing. I purchase these both the records in 1982. But I got the answer today. Thanks a lot.
Excellent video with nice compilation of information. In depth analysis of types of records and its sound quality. I got in detail information about various records. Nice Video Sir!!! Thank you Sir .
very good presentation, i have few angel and odeon SP's which were my parents purchased in 60's and 70's. due to bad handelling its cover and sleeves got torned. but still its playable
once again, very much informative.you skipped 45NLP format.it is true many ERs soundtrack on super 7 sounded badly ,but non film stereo release on super 7 were excellent.i had polydor maxi EP of sholey.superb stereo seperation & reproduction. I read somewhere that 16 Rpm were used in early days in western counterpart for as playback for film music sound in silent movies.size of record was much bigger than LP, but soon vanished
Sir, I watched your video in your video you haven't explained about 12'' shellac records, in past most of English musics, song records of 78RPM speed shellac were available, you also told about 33 RPM 7'' records which are called as Super-7,M.L.P.& MAX EP, due to the small micro groove if we use 0.3 or 0.4 Dia stylus than we can get better sound production can be escaped from damage of the record how their grooves will not be blunt. Mostly due to the thicker Dia pin and the widen point causes damage the record groove. Surya Narayan satpathy, BERHAMPUR, ODISHA
A very very informative video. Although I thought I had enough idea about vinyl formats, this video made my knowledge complete. Kudos to you for that.👍 One question : Does all 10 inch Bollywood Shellac records require 2.5mil / 3 mil stylus or some later releases can be played by 0.6 mil to their optimum level. I am asking this because Audio Technica in their site somewhere has mentioned a cut off year prior to which they recommend using 3 mil and after which they recommend 0.6 mil. Does this advise by AT has relevance for Bollywood Shellac records. I have a very few Shellac records (all around Mid 60s) which I play by 0.6 mil stylus. Prior to investing in a new 3 mil stylus I need your advice. Getting addicted to your channel.😊 Thanks and regards.
Sir, maybe you neglected to indicate another category, or maybe I misheard you. There was a record category that was 12 inches in size, or LP format, but had a speed of 45 RPM. I have many records in this category, for example "Tum sa nahi dekha" "Hum dono" "Paying guest" "Sangdil" etc
You forgot to mention about the 45 rpm 12" (NLP series) records which came out in the late 70s. SP is Single Play in the United States, but in UK, the abbreviation SP stood for Standard Play.

78 rpm records must be played only on 3 mil records.
Any other tip will damage the grooves beyond repair
