      @Lolly Palooza I too made these flat pen bookmarks 5 years ago and had the same worry about the outer plastic case after removing the refills. I have saved them for some further crafting with them. Although I haven't done anything yet with them yet. Ideas I had was using them around an empty bean can Or toilet roll to create pen stands or pencil/ marker/ stationery stand. I am from India. We used to get plain refills once upon a time but now we either get them in fused casing or in narrow straight barrels where you can remove the top and bottom end. No springs in them! The top end is triangular and can be turned into an eating along with beads! I did use the top part by inserting them in plastic waterbottles as sippers for birds but birds in India are not familiar with feeders! So that failed!

      @Lolly Palooza in the vertical flat pen paper clip, I'd like to suggest something from what I saw in another crafter's video on YT. Instead of making a slit for the clip at the back, she made it on the fold. She used two layers of card paper and fixed the clip on the inner folded card, but you can do in this too. Insert the clip through the slit in the fold the same way leaving the longer side out/ at the back) and the shorter side inside the folder card paper. Keep the rounded end slightly protruding through the hole and insert ribbon/lace/ cord through it before sticking the pin down. Then push the clip flush with the fold and glue it all in making sure you put some glue on the slit as well. You can tie the ribbon into a bow of just make a knot and add a dab of glue to keep it in place. The ribbon helps to remove the pen clip when needed and, also to identify it's location. I hope this helps

    Love, love this idea. You are great at explaining things and I love how they turned out. I have an idea for the remainder of the pen when you have taken the ink part out. You could glue the shells together, and make them as part of a bug house for the garden, that way it is being used and not going into landfills. The other thing you could do is cut them in half lengthways and use them as the edging of the journal covers, another idea is to decoupage them, then cut them up into bead size and use them as journal dangles, the same with part of the lid, then the end bit you could use as a tassel topper.

    Hi Lolly:
    What a great idea! Will start making some for my journals and DIY TNs. Just a note: you can easily snip off the end of the pen where there’s no ink. That way, you don’t have to worry about the clips. You can also make shorter pens. Love that you picked up the uke. Really a fun instrument. Had a soprano then switched to a concert. Let us know how it’s going. Thank you for all your wonderful videos and tips. 💜😎🇺🇸

    I hot glued the metal tip on a glue bottle for fussy glueing. Another tip I superglued a needle in to make a small hole punch. By filing the tips down and sharpening them I made various sizes of hole punches. Not as easy as the store bought ones, but a lot cheaper! Tips could be used as tiny Santa or snowman hats, springs as arms and legs... The barrel could be used as a holder for diy peg stamps, a center holding rod for washi tape or hot glued together to make pen holders, drawed dividers or maybe a box with a lid. Use the springs as hinges on the lid. Think building like with legos or lincoln logs (if you are old enough to know what they are.) Love from Sweden.

      Sorry. I just saw your comment. Yes, I saw that she has that video. :) Just a heads up -- RUclips noticed that you put a period and then no space (you wrote "back.to back") and it registers that as a website, such as a dot com. So RUclips put your comment in my spam folder instead of posting it.

    We did these flat pens with ribbon back in 1983 for our highschool graduating class yearbooks. I doubt the kiddos now adays even get year books or have their classmates sign them. It is funny how things come back in style again. However ours didn't have the paperclips. Totally am loving that idea! And the fabulous embellishments for the top. Wonderful tutorial! Many thanks!

    Great Idea. I love the flat pens as regular pens snag and fall out of all of my journels and notepads.
    You should poke a hole on the fold and stick the pen tip throughthen the paperclip can go on the open end. :).

    Usually make these with wedding invitation papers, once done they are enclosed with a the card and gift.
    I close it with the tape or glue and put the edge in to a circle punch to make the pen part round rather than the point but.
    They are fun and awesome. Great tutorial. Thanks

    I didn't read all of your comments, but the off brand pens that are like the Bic pens are good to use for these flat pens. Also, the leftover barrels can be cut with a hacksaw and used to make boho beads. The caps can be decorated with small beads, small buttons, or sequins, etc and attached to journals as charms.

      Betty Longshore
      Betty or anyone-miss Lolly is a enabler! Lol! I am raiding my husbands office supplies.
      The casing that holds the ink, does it need to be flat? Or rip out the ink from a Bic pen? I know not to have the big thing on the end. That is what my husband has, and it’s too big and will not work.
      So it has to be flat? Or can it be round like a Bic Pen? Miss Molly I so love your videos. You crack me up when you change the subject! I do the same! Lol!😂
      Help...♥️🌹💯‼️

      Lolly Palooza In more detail, you'd use the hook in place of the ink cartridge, so you can "click" the hook out. no waste of the spring or any part of that shaft. I loooooooove your idea of the flat journal pens!!!!!?

    Very clever. Those would be great for in bibles. Along with paper crafts I am a miniaturist. I build doll houses. I also create many items for accessories. My problem was reversed...what to do with the ink. Save those pen parts. I know you will need them. Thank you for sharing.

    So cute. Could you cut off the top of the ink barrel to allow more room for decorating? Tfs. God bless.

      as long as there is no liquid in that tip. Not even that clear liquid above the ink.

    Brilliant idea! Love it! About your nail problem and pulling off the paper from the tape? I've seen numerous crafters use an exacto knife to get it started. Also, you asked for ideas for the rest of the pen. The spring part - I saw someone making paper clip sangles and she wrapped wire several times, which looks like a spring, then slid it to the rounded end of the paper clip, added a bigger jump ring and then attached beads and charms to that! The rest of the pen, its late and I'm tired but how about wrapping with florist tape or such and placing a flower in. If you have real flowers and it'll go in water then something waterproof. Then have them available for the rest of the boquet. Kinda sounds lame but I'll think on it! Love your flat pen idea, brilliant☺

      great ideas. Yes, about tape -- I have sometimes used one of those paper-piercing tools. My first inclination is to try my fingernail without thinking. :) I think I saw that same video about wrapping wire around a paper clip. I loved it. Flower pens -- whatever we use would have to be light weight, or the pen would be pretty top heavy. It's pretty light. Thanks for all the ideas and discussion.

      I was at a thrift store recently and found a large amount of empty pen cases (no ink) that had been donated. I couldn't help but wonder what the donor had done with the inks. :)

      Oh Wow! Is that what gave the idea for these? Unless You saw them after You uploaded this, in which case then We all know what They did with the inks :) Everyone will start doing them now! See, I was gonna look online to order refills but when You shop online You really never know what You're gonna get until it arrives with this kind of thing. Pics on here can be so deceiving!

    I know this was 3 years ago...and I am sure others have commented that Amazon has pen refills...$14 for 100.
    Love this idea! My sister does mixed Media Art...(gel printing) I sent her the video! It would be perfect for her artwork!

    Oh I am so loving the paperclip idea and you made yours so cute!! As far as the left over pen parts go I have seen some on RUclips making beads out of the pen tubes and they look really cute! I am trying out glue from glue gun to make a little removable tip for flat pen I will let you know if it works. Tfs :)

    • @LollyPalooza
      @LollyPalooza  6 лет назад +1

      great idea. I'll start working with the pen tubes and see what I can do, too. A pen tip would be great as well.

      I’d love to know how the pen tip is working out. Great idea! I wondered if the empty part of the ink tube could be cut off and fit over the pen tip. The new ‘cap’ could then be sealed with a tiny amount E6000/hot glue. It could be painted or covered with paper to match and see easily.

      Lani Haskins I decided to try a gel pen refill tip, they come on gel pen refill when you buy them so when I replaced my gel pen I had this little plastic tip left over and it fit perfectly on the flat pen.

    Just Subscribed !! An idea for recycling springs, could we cut them individual rings for charms ? Love your pens 🤗👍

    • @LollyPalooza
      @LollyPalooza  6 лет назад +2

      I'm not sure I'd want to take the time to cut them, and they wouldn't be strong enough to hold charms. However, you could put a spring down on a charm. You could also stretch the spring out, and use it as an embellishment sticking out from a design. I also made a zombie doll and had springs sticking out of him

    Your welcome! Wrapping the pen w tape and pitting a flower in, I meant, then putting in a vase with the other flowers. Oh, told you it sounded lame, lol. Not a good idea. Usually get the disposables anyway but do they sell the refills alone? Maybe call the company directly? They either make the pen innards or buy from another company, either way you might be aable to buy in bulk?

    • @LollyPalooza
      @LollyPalooza  6 лет назад

      They usually don't sell refills for disposable pens, but someone did suggest Aliexpress for refills.

    The left over plastic pen encasing people that use yarn loom put yarn thru them to thread the yarn around the loom. Another thought you can glue in a pokey tool or a blade and use the cover to cover the small poke tool or blade.

      @LollyPalooza  6 лет назад +1

      I've heard of people cutting them into segments, making beads out of them.
