I love gourds! Drying them and sanding, staining and crafting with them is the best fun. I really love the tiny ones, and working them into wreaths. Thanks for the smiles,
My best friends’ grandfather (in L.A.) was one of the very 1st original framers/vendor at the famous Original Farmer’s Market on Fairfax Ave & 3rd Street & he sold incredibly beautiful gourds back in the early 1030’s - they just recently closed their 4-5 Stalls, after 4 generations of family owners! That’s when I fell in love with gourds, when I saw the huge range in sizes & shapes they had as keepsakes from their grandfather!!
The Shekere is a West African percussion instrument consisting of a dried gourd with a woven netting of beads covering the gourd. The instrument is commonly used in West African and Latin American music and can also be heard in many popular forms of music.
Growing up,my grandmother made gourd dippers, for drinking water from our well, or the spring out in the back pasture. We always had a gourd dipper. Our neighbor across the road, would dry and paint gourds.
I love how a gourd can be transformed into a beautiful work of art.
Graham is an amazing crafter/artist. I especially adore her lamps.

Wow, what incredible work. Used to be in Ithaca when my kid was at Cornell. What a cold cold freezing area of NYS. I can’t wait to visit gourdlandia.
Laughing is priceless and so are the gourds.
