I feel like a big one is to make sure you're actually buying from a reputable breeder. I went to my first expo to avoid buying from my work (a chain store); and it unfortunately only had 13 vendors in total. Of those- only 3 even had what I was looking for, a leopard gecko. But when it came to actually buying my leo, they couldn't tell me any information on its age or genetics. :/ So while many people will say to go to an expo because they're better, if you're new like me, be careful about the expos too! Luckily he/she is healthy and gaining weight steadily but I'm sure this could've gone worse depending on the source.
If you plan on getting enclosures or animals from someone you'd have to get it shipped from, see if they're attending a show near you. A lot of times they'll be good with bringing your purchase to the expo, saving you $$$ and the stress of shipping a reptile
@@L.V.exoticpets As someone who once worked setting up expos at the Jacob Javits Cntr & NYC Design Cntr I’d say this is an excellent idea. Certain places will only sell advance passes to individuals in the trade (or if you “know someone”) but in most cases this is the way to go. In addition to getting there early plan to go during the last few hours of the last day. Many times people are willing to give discounts rather than having to pack up all their goods and take them back home. I’ve gotten some sweet deals on expensive items during the last hour or so of a show.
Hey Adam, here’s a short vid about “Peacock Jumping Spiders” in the genus _”MARATUS;”_ ruclips.net/video/KxM_cag99nU/видео.html The males have brilliantly colored, iridescent backs and their mating dance is very interesting. *“True Facts; The Mating Dance of the Peacock Spider”* is the title if YT disables the link (as they are sometimes wont to do, naughty YT!) lol Enjoy!

Great video! Looks like a lot of fun! And, as soon as you put the spider up on the screen I thought: Why did you get a spider?! And then you answered: I don’t know… 😂 If I was to ever get a spider, it would be a jumping spider, so good choice on that!

The 5 expo tips are the same as for orchid shows , with the exception of having a list of wants. Too many species and hybrids to expect them to be at any one show. Not sure if the herp expo dealers will do this , but at orchid shows , many will hold items for you so that you can peruse all dealers without having to carry them around. just a final trip to pick up and pay. Also works the same at aquarist swap meets.
